2024 Hyundai Sonata

I’m reporting a serious safety issue with my 2024 hyundai sonata. after a routine service at koons hyundai of woodbridge in late february, the under-engine splash shield detached and dragged under the vehicle while i was driving on the highway. upon inspection, it was clear that the splash shield was not secured with any screws or clips — it was either improperly installed during service or never fastened at all. this caused the shield to flap violently at high speeds before tearing off entirely. it posed a serious hazard to me and other drivers on the road. when i brought the issue to the dealership, they refused responsibility, falsely claimed it was caused by scratches (despite no such damage before the failure), and told me and my wife that we are no longer welcome for service. a part like this should never fall off a new vehicle, especially after a recent service. this could have caused a major accident if it hit another vehicle or interfered with my driving. i am requesting nhtsa to review this case for possible service negligence or manufacturing defect, and ensure future safety.

As i’m driving 75 mph, my car slows down and on the dash board it reads 20 mph limit. i’m on the expressway and, prayerfully, by putting on my hazard blinkers, i pull over, wherever it’s safe, turn car off, restart the car and then it’s fine. please help because this is a life threatening situation! scared this has occurred several times.. approximately 1 month ago i took it into service department (kept 1 week and never slowed down on them. again, once the car is turned off, it drives fine. how can i turn off this 20 mph hour limit on dashboard. any advice or help you can give me to put me at ease, is critical! thank you in advance.

Driver side bumper does not sit flush along driver side fender; pops out along top edge between bumper and fender. many reports of this issue from factory, including all trims and all colors. a tsb needs to be issued for these vehicles to fix the bumper retention. many owners with this issue

With a front seat passenger, using the autos seat belt, at the height of 5’ 6” and a 145lbs. the airbag off light will come on, indicating the airbag system has been turned off. this is intermittent and at times the issue can be resolved with pulling the vehicle over. turning the engine off, asking the passenger to step out of the vehicle (at times on the shoulder of a major interstate), closing the front passenger door. to then reopen the car door, set again in the front passenger seat, secure seat belt and the driver starts the car. sometimes this will cause the light to go off, indicating the airbag system is on. however, this does not always work. during a normal transit the airbag will randomly come on and off.

Front left bumper panel needs to be clipped down/manufactured better. keeps/stays popped out. pushing it in does not work. multiple other 2024 sonata drivers having similar issues

The contact owns a 2024 hyundai sonata. the contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to complete a left turn, the forward collision avoidance system abruptly activated, applying automatic emergency braking, bringing the vehicle to a complete stop. the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence only while attempting to complete a left turn. the forward collision avoidance warning light was illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 60.

Fractured windshield from rock strike. not hyundai responsiblity. 2 1/2 feet from mirror thru driver view. issue is: safelite does not have aftermarket glass. car is 5 months old. hyundai says they have zero replacement glass in united states. i can order ($1500), and wait appx 2-3 months. it is illegal both in ca where i reside and federally to drive with fractured windshield. how is it that auto manufacturers are able to not keep safety items reasonably in stock? covid is long over, i’m tired of hearing “supply chain” excuse. a brief online review shows kia/hyundai has had windscreen issues ongoing for years. i’m not even certain that all of my mirror resident safety features are working properly.

The vehicle speedometer is occasionally 5mph off. when i first get into the vehicle after it’s been sitting for a while and drive around, the speedometer works perfectly. if i shut the vehicle off while getting gas, running an errand or something similar that involves the vehicle sitting for a semi-short period of time, the speedometer will be 5mph off when driving. i initially detected this issue be noticing that my speedometer was different from the speed posted on a gps based speedometer on my phone, who’s speed exactly matched those road side speed measuring signs found on the highway, but both of those measuring devices differed from my vehicles speedometer. i brought my vehicle into my local hyundai dealership who verified the problem exists, but mentioned that this was a software issue which needs to be corrected my hyundai corporate. i contacted hyundai corporate at the number provided to my by the dealership, and was essentially told that there is nothing they are willing to do to fix the issue.

The speedometer is not always accurate. about 75-80% of the time at highway speeds the speedometer shows 4mph higher than waze. while i understand this could be a waze issue itself, i have completed the following test. i was driving at highway speed with my wife following me in her vehicle. my speedometer is 4mph faster than waze in my car, waze in her car and her speedometer. my waze, her waze and her speedometer all matched exactly. this is not a 1 time thing, it happens way more often than not.

This has happened three or four times now while i have been driving. while driving, my electrical system will "black out"/"power down"/"shut off." everything on my dashboard turns off/goes black. my lights turn off. it is like my car shuts down for 2-4 seconds, then turns back on and i can continue to drive. there is no warning, sound, or anything. my car will just abruptly shut off. it is random too. there is no pattern that could help me determine what could be potentially causing this issue. it just happened again last night, while i was on the highway going about 70 mph. this could not only hurt me, but other people on the road. what if the next time my car powers down for a longer period of time? who is to say what could potentially happen? i intend on scheduling an appointment with a hyundai dealership to take a look at this issue. but i figured that because this has happened three or four times now, it will probably happen again, and other people are probably having this issue too. it could be a potential defect with the electrical system.

The front and rear bumpers of the 2024 hyundai sonata have an issue with the bumper brackets. the defective bumper brackets are causing many people's front and rear bumpers to pop out. while these have mostly been 1/8th inch popping off so far, my concern is this may become a bigger hazard as these cars age. facebook groups with hyundai sonata owners have discussed this being a common issue. those who have had their dealers replace the bumpers/bumper brackets still have recurring issues.

When driving early in the morning while it was still dark outside, the car had what seemed to have been a sudden loss of electrical power. the audio for the radio cut off, then the screen for the radio and speedometer went blank, and the headlights also went out. this all lasted for a couple seconds when this happened and then everything came back on fine. i normally would think that this is a defective alternator which it probably is and would be covered under warranty, but after researching this problem i found out that it is a common issue with the 2024 sonata. i feel that this warrants a safety recall which i seriously doubt will happen but it needs to. if it causes problems with headlights shutting off at night then this is a safety issue. who knows what will happen if the headlights shut off on you at night and you couldn’t see where you were going because of it?

Hello, thanks for reviewing. i recently bought a brand new hyundai (vin provided) and the speedometer intermittently is inaccurate. maybe 50% of the time, which i would argue is less safe since i can’t reliably tell what my speed is. when it is an issue, it’s worse the faster i drive. it breaks the 10% threshold i’ve read about around 30mph, where it will say 26mph. i brought it to the hyundai dealership and they claimed they couldn’t replicate the issue so they won’t fix it - but it’s intermittent and i have picture / video proof from multiple dates. i used various speed sources to be sure. i found some hyundai forums online where many others have the same issue. the speedometer is an important safety feature, not to mention other dependent features, like cruise control. happy to provide proof by request.

I purchased a new 2024 hyundai sonata hybrid limited in may 2024. at about 3500 miles i noticed the low-beam headlights did not adequately illuminate the road. when driving at night, the low-beams don't illuminate the road signs nor do they adequately have any vertical illumination. when pedestrians are walking on the roadway, the low-beams barley light the calf of a person's leg, but there's no indication of the persons body being illuminated. using the hi-beams, these problems are somewhat resolved. the roadways are better lit, the road signs are better lit and pedestrians are a little more illuminated. i've addressed this with hyundai, and while there's screw(s) to vertically align the headlamps higher, it seems they are adjusted all the way to the top position. even if the headlamps could be adjusted vertically, because the headlamps are so recessed under the hood, the hood cuts off any possibility for lights to vertically illuminate people. in my opinion, this is a serious safety issue that's caused by a design flaw and the nthsa should seriously considering deeming this vehicle unfit for road use at night.

I purchased a new 2024 hyundai sonata hybrid limited on [xxx]. at about 2000 miles i noticed the speedometer of the car and the waze app were reporting different speeds. this is an intermittent problem so sometimes the vehicles speedometer and the waze app match and other times the vehicles speedometer and the waze app disagree. i've repeatedly taken this car to the dealership where i purchased it complaining about the problem and they can't seem to find a problem. hyundai documented the problem is with waze and there's "delay" in the signal from the satellite to the waze app, even though i've stated my other vehicles speedometers and the vehicle speed reported by waze match. hyundai documented this anomaly is what gives the vehicle it's "uniqueness." yet they won't resolve this issue. there are several functions in the car that are dependent on the the vehicle's speedometer being correct and when the speedometer is incorrect, these other functions don't work properly either. i've taken the car onto freeways where there are measured mile postings. sometimes when the speedometer indicates it's at 60 mph it takes 60 seconds to traverse the mile. other times, when the speedometer indicates its at 60 mph it takes 63 seconds to travel the measured mile. it's not just my car, there are many other customers around the united states that are experiencing this problem and i/we can't seem to get hyundai to address, fix this problem. my personal opinion is this; hyundai knew about this problem before they put the car out to the market for sale. so hyundai knowingly sold a defective vehicle, before they sold the first one of these vehicles. other hyundai sonata owners complaining about speedometer [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

I along with other people on various websites have noted that the 2024 n-line has something wrong with the speedometer. i first noticed is on the waze that is was different. it must have something to do with the internal gps of the car. i tested it alongside another car and it is indeed off. it happens after driving the car into a place that isn't obvious on the map. i brought the car to the dealership and they weren't able to help. i know there is a slight allowance for speedometer being off, but this is way off. for example, it can show one is going 25, while really going 20. this causes me to have to look at waze to get proper speed. this is a real issue and if search hyundai sonate n-line speedometer being off, you can find other people talking about this issue. please really look into this as this is a major concern that falls outside the allowed difference in speedomter and actual speed

The speedometer in this car is extremely inaccurate and inconsistent with its accuracy. on some occasions, the speedometer can indicate a +-2mph variance at any given speed (good), while other times, the speedometer can indicate a +-6mph variance at any given speed. (bad) the vehicles true speed was verified by gps speed data and by manually calculating given each individual wheel speed in the car. both measured speeds confirmed that the vehicles speedometer was off by 5-6mph. no modifications performed to the car. this is a serious safety hazard as the driver is given inaccurate information regarding the actual speed of the vehicle and can lead to accidents.

My vehicles speedometer is always reading 1-4 mph faster than the actual speed i am driving at. for example cars speedometer would read 67 but only actually going 63. i’ve noticed it’s always 1mph off but whenever driving the car and turning it off to say get gas and turn right back on, the speedometer will begging reading 3-4 mph faster until leaving the car off for a few hours then it would go back to only reading 1mph faster again.

The automatic high beams feature seems to work through the camera by the rearview mirror. but the issue is when this camera is blocked, all of the safety systems that use the camera will be disabled as they normally will be since the camera cannot see, but the automatic high beams function will still stay on, the indicator light for it will be green meaning that the system is operating normally. as a result of this, the automatic high beam system keeps the high beams on at all times because it thinks that it is dark enough because it doesn’t see any light through the camera. this could potentially increase the risk of a crash because the driver may not realize that the high beams are not turning off when approaching another vehicle or when a vehicle is coming the opposite direction, which can blind other drivers on the road. this needs a recall to resolve this problem.

The contact owns a 2024 hyundai sonata. the contact stated while driving 35 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. the vehicle was diagnosed with fuel injector failure. the vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. the contact stated that on another occasion, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the contact turned off the vehicle. the contact restarted the vehicle after several minutes and the vehicle started working properly. the vehicle was then taken to a dealer and was diagnosed with fuel consumption failure. the vehicle was repaired for the most recent failure. the contact then stated that the check engine warning light illuminated on and off a third time. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the nhtsa hotline for assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 15,395.

The daw (driver attention warning) system is obtrusive and a distraction to safe driving. the alert makes an audible "beep" and the drivers display lights up with a warning to "take a break". this alert will continue every 5 minutes if on a winding road until the car is stopped and the engine is turned off. when operating the vehicle in a safe manner keeping my eyes on the road and having the beeping and warning lights distracting me is quite the opposite of its intended purpose. in previous year models this could be turned off by the owner. this is not so with the 2024, 2025 models. this is not isolated to this vehicle but a search of the internet will find many frustrated owners all voicing their concerns. a safety alert system should not become a safety hazard. the dealer has no solution. the alert system cannot be turned off or it's sensitivity adjusted. the manufacturer has so far not responded to my complaints.

I purchased this vehicle brand new off of the lot february 2024. since then, i have had two incidents where in the middle of driving my vehicle has completely shut off. the first experience, i was driving 50+ mph. first my headlights went out, my engine shut off, my dashboard shut off, and i was cruising without power or control over my vehicle for about 5 seconds before everything turned back on. i took my car to the dealership where they “could not confirm concern” after driving around for 15 miles trying to recreate the issue. they stated no codes or issues were shown on their end and returned the car to me. 6 months later during late october, my car did the same thing. i was driving 40+ mph and my car shut off in the middle of me driving. i contacted my dealership to inform them it happened again. they told me they did not have any available appointments to bring my car in. out of frustration i did not bring it in until a few weeks ago for a regular check up. i gave them the exact date and time that my vehicle shut off and they again could not find the issue that caused the car to turn off. i was informed by a hyundai representative that he anticipates this issue getting worse as it happened twice in the first year of owning it. that when it happens again to get my car towed by hyundai roadside assistance and straight to the dealership. as stated, i lose complete control of the vehicle. luckily both instances i have been on a straight road but i have concerns that this could happen at the wrong time leaving my injured.
