Seal around windshield rotted and has flown off. The windshield now makes a whistling noise as the car is being driven.

Multiple bought car in november 2022

1st week of getting the car noticed air coming up from the defrost front winshield when a/c or air is off and I excelerate when driving. It will fog up windows at night so bad that I have to pull over to defrost and the defrost wont defrost it right away. When driving during the day and exelerate the amount of air that comes out is moves my hair and cross strings on my mirror.
You can smell the odor of the air when it comes out.

Still happens till today.

December 2nd started to notice whatever kids sit in back 3 rd row they start to get dizzy or feel nauseous after a while. Doesn’t matter which child I sit back there. If we are driving distance from sna jose to gilroy or south san jose to Milpitas examples.

December 23rd Low brake fluid light came on. Right back tire area has a little oil on floor. Checked brake fluid and was almost empty. Put some in to see if works
January 10 air bag light on . then went off after 24 hrs
April 15 brake fluid low light came on. On floor by right back tire see oil on floor. Check brake fluid and it is good at the line.

The ford dealer inspected the trunk lip's rust but refused to submit it to ford consumer support for a corrosion warranty extension claim. the rust must have existed long before the corrosion warranty expired and was not detected for a month after. in 2023, the hood had rust bubbles around the edge and was repaired. i would like to have the rust of the ford explorer reviewed for a manufacturer recall.

2018 ford explorer in sep 24 loss of driving power, complete, would not shift into any gear approximately 10k miles after a new transmission. limped to dealer and they confirmed a replacement for the transmission, torque converter in particular. april 2025, engine warning light comes on, transmission torque converter failed again.

I am writing to express my frustration and concern regarding a recall for my vehicle that ha remained unresolved for over a year. despite numerous attempts to have the necessary repairs completed, i have been informed multiple times by my vehicle's manufacturer that the required parts are unavailable. this delay is a serious safety concern, as my vehicle remains subject to a recall that has not been addressed due to the lack of parts. i have contacted the dealership on several occasions over the past year to inquire about the availability of the necessary parts and have been informed each time that they are on backorder with no clear resolution in sight. this prolonged delay is causing me significant concern, as i have no way of knowing when or if the necessary repairs will be made. as this issue continues to affect my safety and the safety of others, i am seeking your guidance on the steps i can take to ensure that my vehicle is repaired promptly, in accordance with the recall notice. additionally, j would appreciate any advice on whether there are any regulatory actions that the nhtsa can take to expedite this process and ensure that the manufacturer fulfills its obligation to address the recall in a timely manner. i look forward to your assistance in resolving this matter as quickly as possible. thank you for your attention to this important safety issue.

In february 2024, i received the enclosed safety recall notice from ford motor company regarding my 2018 ford explorer. the notice described a problem with a-pillar applique trim clip attachments that could cause the pillar trim become detached. in march 2024 while driving home from pittsburgh pa, my left side pillar trim did blow off while i was traveling south on [xxx], and its final resting place is unknown to me. i notified my local ford dealer (mike castrucci ford, 1020 sr 28, milford, oh) where i bought the car new about what happened. they said they were aware of the recall, but that as per the recall notice, replacement parts would not be available until the latter half of 2024. well, it is almost end of the first quarter of 2025, and i have not received any positive responses to my follow up requests to the car dealer as to when i can expect have this issue resolved. castrucci ford's responses have been that the parts are on back order. my attempts to contact ford motor company have also been pointless. therefore, i am contacting the nhtsa, as per the recall letter, to see if ford can be motivated to expedite getting my vehicle fixed. thirteen months from the date of the initial recall notice to today should have been ample time to replace these pillars. as a member of the public, i'm wondering if ford thinks that if they delay fixing the problem long enough, people will finally give up. fyi, i won't. thank you for investigating my complaint. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

On january 24, 2021 i bought my certified pre-owned 2018 ford explorer sport. the following week i heard an intermittent banging sound when driving down the road at approx. 60 mph. when i got home i saw that the plastic coverings of the roof rack rails were coming off and were what was making the banging sound. from researching the issue online it appears if left unaddressed the covers can fly off the vehicle while on the road. unfortunately ford has yet to provide a fix. there are hundreds of complaints from people online show this is a very common problem and ford has yet to provide a adequate solution for. some people have stated that ford's fix is to apply silicone to the clips that come loose. upon inspection i see that silicone had been applied to mine previously (not by me) and that, like many other report, this does not hold/ resolve the problem. many more user complaints of this issue can be found here https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t73385_ds991660

On june 18, 2021 while driving we noticed a particular smell inside the vehicle while driving and stationary. when we exited the vehicle the smell was exact same smell as the exhaust coming from the car. all doors were closed to include rear hatch as it was 110 plus outside. we had the a/c on recirculating mode and wife complained of a headache and mentioned she had been getting headaches several times while in the vehicle and i too had a headache. i searched the web and came across the same in issue with this generation explorer and people had stated the 2018 models had the same complaint but were not recalled. for the remainder of the trip we rolled windows down and used fresh air to clear to vehicle of the exhaust smell. the vehicle has not been inspected by the dealer as we have been driving another vehicle due to the safety risk of co2 poisoning.

Air conditioning failed. dealer says its compressor, but they have had it for a month and cannot fix it. last excuse was a bolt fracture. bolt fracture? my previous 2013 explorer had a fire in the ac unit at 9 thousand miles.

Roofrack became detached while driving on freeway. almost flew off in traffic and had to hold onto it while driving until i was able to pull over and tape it down. almost flew off road while holding it down.

Roof rail cap flew off on highway. complained of issue was told its under investigation but no fix is available

Strong exhaust smell in the front cabin while driving 40+ mph. resulting dizziness and nausea symptoms. vehicle taken to dealer for diagnosis. odometer reading 10560

2018 exploere and everytime we back up there is a loud clunk noise, i see ther is a recall on 2013-2017 but 2018 als o needs to be included in this recall this probelm needs to be fixed immediately

The failed component is the roof rail caps. one of mine came off on the car wash. the other roof rail cap keeps coming loose just driving around, i have to check the second roof rail cap so it too does not fly off on the highway or come off in the car wash. i now have just the one roof rail cap and it looks terrible.

According to ford the apim failed and needs to be replaced. the entire counsel is black and will not come on i can not control the heat in air in the back of my vehicle as well as the rear cameras, radio, navigation, car chargers, car play and other features. before it went completely black and didn’t work it would disconnect the phone and turn off and on for about a week. this car is less than 3 years old.

When accelerating there is an exhaust smell that seeps into the cabin of the car.

The contact owns a 2018 ford explorer. the contact stated while driving 65 mph, she became aware that the front passenger’s side windshield rubber trim and the weather protector plastic piece were flapping back and forth on the windshield and then flew off the vehicle. the contact pulled over to the side of the road and placed the rubber trim piece back in the molding of the windshield and drove back to her residence. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

Vehicle emits a mold smell through the cooling system. entire system was replaced under warranty and problem returned within a year. the presence of mold can cause serious health issues.

Noticed smoke coming from vehicle as started driving vehicle, a short distance from wts. a short time later flames were coming from behind the glove box. driver was driving. the vehicle has not been inspected. it is unknown at this time if their were warning lamps.

The steering stopped working. this happened a couple times and i stopped the suv and turned it off and when i turned it on it worked. this last time it completely stopped steering. the repair shop said it was a steering rack or something and the part had to come from ford. this part was $1500.00. now they say my rear suspension bushing need replacing along with a toe part causing excessive wear on my rear left tire. this part will cost me $600.00 plus.

Right rear tire outside shoulder wear. alignment has been checked twice. always within factory specs. factory specs for camber on that wheel are not right. vehicle handles poorly in slushy conditions. in many instances that is a sign of wheels out of alignment.

On at least three separate occasions over last six months vehicle has exhibited significant loss of power while accelerating passing vehicles. in addition to these occasions the vehicle has had significant smoking issues after idling or stopping for extended times. white smoke and odor exit the tailpipes which can be smelled inside of vehicle and observed outside the vehicle. subsequent dealer inspections located nothing to cause the issues until the third time they inspected it and located the waste gate from the turbo chargers not function due to missing clips/rod. the repair has corrected the issue however i was charged for the repair stating the parts of the turbor charger where not covered under the powertrain warranty even though if gone uncorrected would have caused the turbos to fail under operation causing potential entire engine failure which if occured underway or during acceleration would create a significant safety hazard to the operator, passengers and potential other vehicles on the road. note: there is a tsb issued for the same problems occuring with the turbo chargers of ford involving the smaller engines manufactured at the same facility as the ecoboost motors.

Unable to utilize the technology screen that the backup camera utilizes. black screen with no power and unable to get visual or audio object warnings. being informed the apim is faulty.

Sync screen completely blacked out. started after ford replaces my battery. back up camera does not work; front and rear sensors do not work; along with all sync related activities (climate control, hands free) it has now progressed to instrument panel starting with the compass. based on other complaints fear it will move on to other instrument panel devices.

Ford has issued a recall for the cooling mechanism when the car is in idle. unfortunately i have been told they will not correct it unless there is a problem? like they know it is faulty and are waiting on a fire. this is a safety issue and i believe they have made the courtesy recall in hopes that it won't be a mandated one, which is pretty scary. we do what we can to prevent these issues and they know there is a problem. this is a safety issue. please force them to correct this defect. i have attempted to schedule this repair, but while the notice says they will correct it. they have refused. i have spoken with daniel at ford and they have closed my case. the letter acknowledges safety feature issues are possible. i will try to attach screenshots of my case no. and the letter. thank you so much. Currently on 3rd day of owning vehicle. on second day, the presence of strong exhaust odor persisted throughout the day driving close to 90 miles. heat was on around 72 with both head & floor pulling in fresh air. had to open sunroof because of how strong odor became when sitting idle while stopping. there are no warning lights or anything that would be causing exhaust to enter car abnormally.

The battery continues to drain even when parked next to my house. after a few days some systems shut down beginning with the passenger door handle sensor not unlocking the doors when touched. a few days later the car would not start. it has been to several dealers in the nearly three years i have owned it and had numerous batteries replaced. dealer always states everything checks out fine i have been stranded with a no start several times. the 12 volt accessories socket also stops working.

Roof rack rail cover came off on highway, almost caused an accident. the other roof rack rail cover is lose but i have yet to receive the recall for the roof rack rail cover.

I purchased this suv october 30, 2021. when i utilize remote start, i notice a smell of exhaust fumes when i get in the car to begin my commute. the smell dissipates when i let the window down before starting the drive. during my two hour commute to and from work, i have feelings of nausea and headaches. since the time that i purchased this suv, i've continued to be plagued with head aches, nausea, vomiting, and extreme fatigue. during the commute on monday, january 31, i became ill again on the commute and was unable to go to work. i decided to take the car to the green ford dealership in greensboro, nc to be inspected. on wednesday, february 2, i received the following text notification from green ford....i just got with the technician and it is definitely leaking exhaust fumes into the vehicle. we are currently working up a quote for the repairs and will then give a call to warranty company. *my suv is still at the dealership so i do not have the repair invoice to attach.

All of the components actually failed that were connected to in said computers dean or data i am noticing that since we have connected our phones to this system and system and the ford app we have seen constant problems with vehicle with vehicle has actually shut off while driving driving and lights are acting really weird would like to make sure that our identity theft data breach and hacking that has been done to us has not breached our vehicle's security systems within all said computer component which can cause death dismemberment tdismemberment disharm or more please contact.

Roof rack cover blew off while driving and snapped 3/4 of the cover off. part was not recovered. research shows this was an issue on the vehicle and there was a recall. when entering the vin # it shows no recalls?

I was informed via mail several months ago there was a safety recall related to my 2018 ford explorer regarding the roof rail cover. my wife contacted our original dealership (fairway ford in placentia) who stated that the repairs were unnecessary and refused to service the vehicle. in the past week i then received a safety recall reminder from ford via mail and when i contacted their service representative (bell; today around 8:40 am) she confirmed that the repairs were indeed necessary and she directed me to another dealership (villa ford in orange) due to being informed of the refusal of fairway ford to perform the repairs.

Horn failed to sound after pressing center of steering wheel. the horn started changing tones over a period of time then got quieter and then stopped working all together. fuses and relays are in good condition. will take it to a ford dealer to have it looked at for further diagnosis.

I notice that my car is sliding in somewhat wet terrain situations. i did notice it last year but didn't think at 24k miles my tire treads were bad. i had my car serviced and they are telling me at 32k miles i need new tires and they are bad. these tires are warranted for 50k miles. there are rubber tears at the tread and well as complete baldness. terrible! had i been driving much this winter there would no doubt be a incident. these are a issue on all 4 tires. i see there are many complaints with these hankook ventus noble tires. something needs to be done or recalled. we are the consumer. protect us!

Within weeks of vehicle being out of warranty apim module failed. vehicle completely lost all gps, intermitment screen failure that prevents seeing backup camera. forward collison lights come on for no apparent reason. all lane assist functions intermittently work

When driving the car i corrected to move further to the left on the road. in doing so it felt like i ran over something and all of a sudden the car accelerated (initially i was driving around 20-25 mph) and i struck a tree. i sustained a t spine fracture and was hospitalized for 5 days. i just have a case number with ford but they seem disinterested. when the car accelerated i felt it was going a 2x the speed.

Driving on freeway the driver side windshield a-pillar trim came almost all of the way off and was flapping. we pulled it off by the one remaining attachment and drove home. also noticed the passenger side a-pillar trim was loose. took to dealer. there was not a recall so we payed to have them replaced. the total cost was $655.96. these could have flown off of the vehicle and caused an accident.

Warning light appeared and immediately power steering went out while i was driving.even though i have a bad right arm, i was able to pull off into residential neighborhood and turn off vehicle. dealer replaced steering gear. my explorer is a 2018. i understand there was a recall on this issue in the 2016 and 2017 explorers. appears the 2018s are having same problem.

Vehicle had a major mechanical issue that ignited a fire in the engine compartment. the fire quickly spread to the passenger compartment of the vehicle and totally engulfed the unit causing major damage to the entire vehicle. the vehicle is an obvious total loss.

On may 25th i started my car and the dashboard indicated my engine is at critical stating its overheating. i immediately turned the car off and waited 10 minutes to restart the vechle assuming it was a malfunction because the vechle hasn't been driven since the day before. as i restarted the car no warning indicators lit and the vechle was normal as usual. i drove around the corner and noticed the vechle stalling with a slight jurk. i immediately drove into an auto shop to check what's going on. i told the rep what's happening with the car. they checked the oil and stated the coolant is mixing with the oil and that i need service right away. i asked if i get an oil change will it get me home around the corner. the rep stated it shouldn't be a problem. as i left it was fine, until i reached my driveway and the vechle just shut off. i then asked for help to push the vechle into the driveway by my neighbor and was able to put the car in neutral and moved into my driveway. i searched around to see recalls on fordpass app, it only stated that it was a new csp on my vin to upgrade the high speed cooling fan relay and it's components stating it is known to either cause overheating or fire and that the relay will be replaced for vechles with millage at or below 150000 miles. i was in the clear and covered because i was at 126,600 miles. i remembered as i turned my vechle on it stated a critical indication of my engine overheating following me turning off the vechle and waiting 10 minutes and restarting with no warning indicators on. i contacted ford for service by requesting a tow to brandon ford. the vechle was towed and the following day a service rep named scott called stating he received the vechle and that it's gonna take a couple of days to get to, i said no problem. the next day i was contacted by scott and was told my engine is seized and that no service is gonna be performed and to come pick my vechle up. i found recalls for 2019 and 2020 ford vechles but not 2018

I bought a new fire explorer in 2018 from napleton ford in libertyville, il. it has almost 22k miles in 2011. early july, 2022, while driving, the sync system of my car started failing. while reversing the car a few times, the screen went black, leaving me with a few seconds very distracted that could have led to a bad accident. it was an intermittent issue for a few days until the system completely stopped working when i was driving on a highway and suddenly lost all connectivity to my car bluetooth and left with no usb power in the car or a way to start the back ac because it was sync locked, eventually leading to a very unsafe drive on the highway. i took it to the dealership and they investigated to find the apim module of the car had failed and it is a very common issue with ford. it fails almost as soon as the warranty on the car expires. i feel cheated by ford.

Since the car was new i experienced occasional situations where the car would not accelerate. i thought it might be the transmission slipping as it seemed to "bottom out" when hitting the gas. the car would not respond and i would coast onto the side of road for fear of getting hit. after a minute or so, the gas pedal would work and i could keep moving. i reported it to the dealer and at that time it was winter and the roads were icy so they were not able to test it. nothing showed up on diagnostics. it has been happening more frequently (twice since june 2022). upon further research it seemed to be the throttle body so this week i took it to the ford dealer where i purchased the car and told them what was happening. they confirmed that it is a bad throttle body. they are now replacing it at a cost of $781. i have found numerous sites on the internet that this is a well-known problem and in some cases it seems that ford issued an extended warranty on defective throttle body assemblies and sensors for 10 years or 150,000 miles from the original purchase date. so why does this not apply to me? this is very dangerous and i was lucky to not get hit. when the car stops accelerating in the middle of traffic, it would be easy to get rear ended or worse.

Roof rack rails have detached from my vehicle several times since purchasing my vehicle. the ford dealership knows of the problem, attempted a brandade approach to solve the problem but has not fixed the problem. they used glue to try an fix a potential but that could result in the rail becoming detached on the freeway, flying off and striking another car and causing an accident. the right rail on my explorer came off on the freeway and luckily did not strike another vehicle. despite knowing the problem and not accepting blame, my dealership asked me to pay for replacement rails. ford should be instructed to recall all ford explorers with these rails and come up with a permanent fix before a major accident result in the death of someone.

In mid-july 2022, i attempted to fix the exhaust issue when accelerating in my 2018 explorer. ford dealership found there was a crack in the exhaust. ford corporate paid for the repairs. the problems persisted but were not as quick to notice, but still faintly smell it. since july, i feel the dealership never fix the issue, and since the heat has worsened, the exhaust also has. ford corp, in a statement, has stated that it's "normal" to smell exhausted when accelerating. the ford dealership has also echoed this statement. our ford fusion 2015 has never smelled like exhaust. my mercedes never, either. from my understanding, 2017 explorer had this recall, l and it seems they never fixed the issue. i feel it's not safe, as my family, my 1 yr old granddaughter, and myself are being poisoned. today, i ordered carbon monoxide to record this data and will find out what is legally allowed.

My car produces a sulfer/burning smell at hard acceleration. when i am merging into traffic at 3500-4000 and over rmp, an awful smell enters the cabin. i am very concerned that this is unsafe for my family and children in the vehicle, as well as the environment. i have had this vehicle looked by ford and they claim everything looks normal. it is not normal to have this smell while accelerating.

The entire main console screen/information center went black one day. it was unable to be manually reset. occasionally, on very hot days, the screen would work for the first start up. there are major safety issues associated with this: 1- inability to enable calling for help/911. there is a remote on the steering wheel to make phone calls, however, when the carplay is active and the phone is connected, you must only use the screen, the steering wheel feature is automatically disabled 2- the backup camera system is inoperable when the screen is black. this is dangerous as you cannot see hazards behind you including children, other vehicles, etc. when i contacted ford's it department to first report it, they said this has been an ongoing issue with updates that they were aware of, but unable to fix. skalnek ford in lake orion attempted to diagnose the safety issue for weeks and ultimately the apim needed replacement.

As i was driving the car slowed down and jerked a little. ( no lights came on ) it happened again getting on the freeway, on another day. still no lights on the dash. it did it another time and the light that indicate it's the power train. all while i was going through this i took it to a shop that said nothing was wrong with my vehicle. i only had my vehicle 5 months before the first slow down. i tried to take it to pat millenkin ford they mever looked at the powertrain after me telling them i thought it was the transmission, but i was told it has no issues because it wasn't a light on. two day's after getting my car back same problem happened, i called then was giving the run around then after my warranty expired they said bring it in which now they want me to pay over $4000 but they never did a diagnostic test on my powertrain. there also was a manufacturer customer satisfaction program from ford on the transmission #20n07 before i purchased.

2018 ford explorer developed a shudder and rough idle, sluggish vehicle operation, slow acceleration during launch. no warning lamps. researched issues online and found a bulletin from ford motor company dated october 9, 2020 that identified the issue as a torque converter defect. my vehicle was manufactured during the identified time period and at the identified assembly plant but i did not receive a notice from ford for the repair program. my vehicle has exhibited all of the known issues as well as a total loss of power while reversing leaving me sideways in the middle of the road while i had my family on a road trip risking collision and injury. dealership confirms there was an issue but refuses to repair because my vin was not listed in their system as affected. feel the issue may extend to more vehicles than ford previously figured.

Driving about 50mph on dry country road, good visibility, when suddenly car pulled hard right. we went onto a grass embankment, i managed to pull left back onto the road, but car fish-tailed uncontrollably, we hit crash barrier, and finally came to a stop. badly shaken but no injuries. examining car, besides body damage, most notably rear drivers side wheel was mis-aligned with car by about 15 degrees. photo of suspension i took shows broken toe-link, subsequently confirmed by body shop and loss adjuster. the car had new rear struts 2 days earlier, but at that time no report of a broken toe-link. i have subsequently learnt there is a recall for broken toe-link for ford explorers 2013-2017, but mine is 2018. but i suspect the recall should have been broader - my toe-link looks like one subject to recall.

In wet, or snowy conditions, or when driving over a bump in the road, the rear end of the vehicle jerks sideways. new tires and 4 wheel alignment have not corrected the issue. vehicle feels like it may lose control. symptoms feel the same as previous year explorer that had a rear toe link issue.

My 2018 ford explorer's water pump is leaking and has caused my car to overheat and then shut down on the highway. having my car immediately begin to overheat and slow down on a fast-moving highway is very dangerous. i have discovered that this is an issue that ford is aware of for my year's vehicle but does not want to do a recall to fix the part and if i fix it, they will only be able to install a similar faulty pump again.

On or about january 4, 2023, while travelling on hwy 22 in texas at approximately 65 mph the right (passenger) side window trim unexpectedly flew off, landing in the road behind me. there was no previous indication of the trim being loose. the safety of others is a concern because the trim could have hit, or cause a diversion from, traffic in either direction. when i called the dealer to schedule the repair, the parts person explained that this was a "routine" occurrence for this make/model of vehicle (they knew the part number), but the vehicle was safe to drive until the part was replaced. the part was replaced on jan 16 at a cost of $438. there has been no subsequent inspection of the replacement trim/parts, but there are no indications of an issue since replacing the trim/parts.

No incident has occurred yet but i heard about the issue with the windshield parts coming loose. i have experienced the sound of air coming through the edges of the windshield when traveling on the highway. the sounds has gotten louder over time and i am always concerned that damage could occur during these travels.

Windshield trim was coming off while i was driving on interstate 95 at high speed. i was able to secure it before it blew off with some tape and stopped off the highway and got some black duct tape. i have not had it fixed yet but the tape is holding well so far. i just read that this is being investigated. i don't believe that i should have to pay to repair this as it seems to be happening to others. thank you [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

2018 ford explorer water pump failed with little to no warning causing catastrophic damage to the engine. flashing check engine light came on for less than 30 second and then turned off i conducted a visual inspection everything seemed fine. next morning as i was driving to the dealership to have the vehicle serviced, check engine light came on and moments later the vehicle stalled unexpectedly in a busy intersection.

The passenger side windshield panel dislodged and flew off the car while driving on the highway at highway speeds. it was sudden event and i had no warning or noise before it happened.

On two separate occasions, without warning, in 8/2022 and again in 12/2022, the vertical windshield panels flew off my 2018 ford explorer suv while driving at normal speed on us rt. 495 in haverhill ma., potentially posing a hazard to following vehicles.

The contact called on behalf of her daughter who owns a 2018 ford explorer. the contact stated that after her daughter had placed her 8-month-old grandchild in a car seat in the second-row rear driver’s side seat, she heard a loud banging sound coming from the vehicle. the contact's daughter, was outside of the vehicle at the time the failure occurred and noticed that the center of the rear windshield had exploded, projecting shattered pieces of glass that reached her grandchild’s car seat. there was no injury sustained. the contact' daughter was able to drive the vehicle to her residence while her grandchild was transported by a family member. the dealer was notified of the failure but did not provide any assistance. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. the failure mileage was unknown.

Parts of the front windshield trim/seals on the passenger and driver's side have come off on their own. just noticed that i am missing substantial parts of the driver's side seal and the passenger side is cracked and missing in some areas.

While driving at highway speed, both windshield trim covers flew off and away from our vehicle. fortunately there were no cars behind us at the time but had there been that piece would have surely hit and potentially impacted their vehicle. i understand this is happening to many of the ford explorers on the road and it is extremely unsafe.

I’ve recently heard from a-couple ford owners and ford technicians them selves that our vehicles come with faulty apim modules and i just recently found out there was a recall on the 2017 model . i do not understand why there is not a recall on the 2018 model also as mine and several other peoples screen went completely black out of nowhere which is a part called the apim module has failed which is a safety hazard that i cannot call 911 in an event or even use the back up camera for the safety of my vehicle . apim modules are not cheap and they are not covered by a lot of warranty companies but it includes so many vital parts or pieces that’s supposed to be included . please seek to look into this apim module recall for 2018 models also as it’s been a headache for many people .

The passenger roof "a" pillar (lower half) blew off the vehicle at about 70 mph. the pillar was not damaged prior to the failure and was not vibrating or making noise prior to suddenly blowing off.

Our 2018 ford explorer windshield trim panel is partially detached. the detachment is on the passenger side lower corner of the windshield and continues up for 9 inches. no crash has occurred as of this time. i reported the detachment to our local ford dealer and they were unconcerned. we first noticed a litter detachment late fall of 2022. the detachment had since extended up the windshield.

I have a 2018 ford explorer. my sync 3 is showing a black screen due to a failed apim. i do not have my rear camera, gps, or hands-free capability which impedes driving safely. ford has recalled multiple other years of my vehicle for this same reason, but not the 2018. ford has also extended it's warranty up to 7 years/100,000 miles on some years of my vehicle, for the same reason, but not the 2018. i am reading that there are numerous other owners who a have the same problem with only an expensive resolution. the ford dealer confirmed the need to replace the apim today at a cost of $1,417. this is unacceptable due to the safety factor and that they know this is a problem in their vehicles. i reported it to ford and their response was my warranty is expired and there is no recall, so i have to pay.

The passenger side front windshield a pillar outer trim flew off the car when we were driving on ca freeway 15 on saturday, february 25, 2023. the entire molding flew off and we don’t know if it hit any cars behind us since we were going at least 70 mph.

I have had three incidents of total brake failure on this vehicle. first, about 3 months ago i could not stop while parking in my garage and hit a work bench. i chalked it up to just a weird low speed incident as the brakes worked fine the next time i drove it. second, i was traveling on wet roads and 27 degree weather and could not stop for a yellow light. at the time i attributed it to an icey skid because, again, the brakes worked fine the next time i needed them. but in retrospect, i do not recall any feeling that the brakes were working. lastly, today i rear ended a car in front of me when the brakes and the supposed forward collision system both failed dramatically. i was probably going 25 mph coming to a red light and started to apply my brakes several hundred feet before the intersection. nothing happened and i, panicked, began pumping the pedal relentlessly. finally the dashboard crash warning light started flashing and still no drop in speed. i tried to get into low gear, but by that time it was too late and i crashed into a van in front of me. it totaled my car and pretty well wiped out the rear doors and windows of the van. fortunately, no one was injured. i was not cited because an emt nurse was in the lane beside me and witnessed my brake pumping, steering wheel grabbing actions and could tell what was going on. the police are going to investigate the brake problem as well as my insurance company, usaa. there have been no brake recalls issued for my vehicle and any other recalls are up to date. there are approximately 50000 miles on it and it has had meticulous care and regular maintenance and brake shoes are still listed as good condition on my last visit for an oil change.

Water pump leaking

On a trip from south carolina to new york, both a-pillar trims blew off on the highway. i am attributing this to both the fluctuations in temperature in the prior 12 hours (over 30 degrees) and a known issue with this vehicle. it was also very windy out.

Around 4:45 , was unable to access cruise control the message rapidly flashed., loss of headlights and all lighting for a few seconds. was going 70 mph. i exited the interstate to turn around and go to my work on southbound the wrench light came on and i lost power steering, power, acceleration in my turn on the on ramp and proceeded off the road onto the incline somehow avoiding a rollover and teetering sideways. meanwhile no power to open my window etc. at an angle where i couldn’t open the door, took a minute to get out of the seatbelt. suddenly got my window able to open and crawled out. the cops, and tow truck couldn’t believe i didn’t roll. the car was at a dealership the previous week for loss of power and terai. system problems/ no power steering and they replaced the throttle body 3 days before this happened. i’ve had multiple electrical/exhaust/power failures. i am terrified to drive this vehicle. it’s been to different dealerships and the ford ones and ford don’t care (only the dealership i purchased it at tries) it is at a fifth one now. we have forscan reports of the failures also. multiple images at scene also. car wouldn’t drive correctly and terrain management fault, unloaded itself from trailer too.

The windshield trim will not stay on-i will have to take in for replacement. i have already read this was an ongoing issue and was being investigated so i wanted to get my report in as well. this should be a recall issue.

Driving on the highway and drivers side windshield trim blew off at highway speeds almost hitting vehicles behind me. i'm not sure if it hit anyone. i pulled over as soon as i could and no one else pulled over. it could have caused serious accidents.

All 4 tires size 255/50r20 have cracked, split and separated around tread. extremely unsafe. vehicle has near 40,000 miles. vehicle was purchased in may 2018 with these tires already installed. there needs to be a recall, as now we will need to purchase 4 new tires at one time when this should not have happened. we can not use our vehicle until we can replace all 4.

Water pump leaking on 2018 explorer with only 72,365. dealer said it should be replaced or it could fail destroying the engine. this is the 4th major problem i have had with this vehicle. not that old to have so many problems. ford picked up some of the cost but still cost me $850.

While driving down the interstate a trim piece fllew off of my vehicle.. it was on the driver's side windshield support.

Driving on interstate and driver's side panel trim of windshield come off over the weekend. there were no known symptoms or problems prior to the failure. the passenger side looks like it's loose. have been by the dealer but they have no recall information.

While traveling at highway speed, the driver's side windshield pillar trim detached itself from the vehicle and flew into the roadway resulting in the following vehicle needing to take evasive maneuvers to avoid collision. in june of 2021 the passenger side piece also detached at highway speed and collided with the following vehicle. ford does not offer a more robust replacement part, so there is no way for drivers to remedy this hazard.

The sync infotainment screen is inoperable and black. my backup camera is no longer operational. no warning lights were illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the application programming interface module (apim) needed to be replaced; however, the part for the repair was on backorder. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 98,000.

Passenger side a pillar outside trim became loose starting at the top. clips failed to hold it secure. broke off in rain storm while driving on expressway.

Water pump is inside engine and apparently known to be faulty. after being stranded in traffic behind an accident in winter in maine it was well below zero and i could not move from the backed up traffic. had to shut off car and weather was dangerously cold. i brought to dealership i bought it at. note there was no warning before the car was fully overheated and coolant was empty. they said water pump and told me to go to specifically ford dealership as i bought used from same family of dealerships but not specifically ford. after a month of adding fluid daily ford dealership tells me that water pump is inside engine and costs nearly as much as new engine to repair. they cannot get in for a month quoted two days and 2800 dollars. the delays from both dealerships could result in new engine needed. this is known issue that can destroy the engine as well and should be a recall. class action lawsuit filed and i believe canada is forcing the repairs to be covered. it is available for inspection and i have to date paid 600 dollars so far for two dealerships to inspect it and not fix the issue.

The trim around my windshield on my driver's side blew off of the car. it is totally missing. upon research, this appears to be a pretty common problem and it is very dangerous. parts coming loose while driving could injure other drivers. no warning that the piece was loose. i am not sure who to report the problem to, i am going to call the dealership tomorrow and my warranty company. my concern is that the replacement piece may not stay on the car.

This complaint is regarding faulty water pumps in certain ford vehicles. this is a known issue that ford refuses to acknowledge. there are several class action lawsuits filed against ford as well. the water pump is positioned in the engine’s center section, coolant leaks straight into the oil bucket. the coolant leak causes the engine to overheat and seize, prompting a new purchase. an overheated engine results in a blown head gasket, which causes the engine to underperform, worsening the heating condition. engine failure can happen anywhere and cause danger to occupants or other drivers on the road. i had the best ford warranty on my 2018 ford explorer. it expired when i reached 101,000 miles. at 103,0870 miles, i was in our ford dealership for an oil change. that is when they found coolant leaking. they said i needed a new water pump. the repair was to cost $3,613.98. i paid for the repair but also called ford to see if they had a program to help with the cost of this repair. they said no. i filed a complaint and, of course, nobody contacted me. luckily, this was found before i lost the engine like a lot of people are experiencing.

Water pump failing, has leak

I was driving on interstate 75 sunday april 30 , when the windshield a-pillar molding trim ,passenger side blew off and flew into the traffic behind me.

I was driving on the interstate, traveling about 70 mph, when my windshield trim piece of my car just detached and flew off the car. there was no initial impact or causing factor when this occurred. i was confused and looked back when it happened not knowing that a piece of my car had flown off in the moment. i do not know if it struck another car or caused any damage to other vehicles. the car behind me was still behind me and did not crash at least. there was no warning lights or prior accidents or damage to the car when this occurred. the vehicle other than this is still in good shape and has not had any other problems. i called my dealership about getting the piece to be replaced and the dealership said that this was a very common occurrence on ford explorers.

I’ve taken my vehicle multiple times to the ford dealership due to continuing issues. every time i’m told nothing is wrong and now i can’t even drive my car 5 feet.

Have had the vehicle for less than a year have had nothing but lil problems but recently have gotten a cranking noise, transmission / coolant leaking under the vehicle. also have water leaking from the exhaust line when car is in park. driving back from work early in the morning a sounded like a big pop not sure what it have may been took it to the mechanic ass well twice an got it diagnosed an they’re response was they couldn’t find the problem. the area i’ve seen an heard the clunking the most would be under the vehicle at the center by the catalyst converter. transmission jerks as well i’ve had this vehicle for 8 months a don’t seem to be what a vehicle should be doing.

I drove explorer directly to mayo clinic in mn shorty after the purchase. it would smell like sulpher at times, gasoline, exhaust and i was getting very poor fuel economy. averaging 17-2. i got extremely sick and confused and had severe headaches and nausea, vertigo, congnitive impairments, burning eyes and all i wanted to do was sleep. i felt fluish and i got confused while going to mayo for testing. well, i didn’t make it to my appointment, i couldn’t even figure out how to book a hotel or get cash. i ended up lifeless and chose to stay in the explorer overnight due to the severe fatigue and confusion. i slept in an open air parking garage and had an electric throw and would start the vehicle occasionally to get warm. well i ended up so sick and mentally confused and cognitively exhausted my sister called the police to let them know something was wrong with me. i ended up in the hospital for a week. i felt like normal during my days in the hospital, i actually thought that i had been sick from the off gassing of the explorer, but i couldn’t get away from the smells. i have mcs. after i was released i continued to drive down to jacksonville florida for my 3 week outpatient appointment. i was getting terrible fuel economy but i didn’t realize it until i was getting 12 miles a gallon and eventually it went as low as 5 miles per gallon. i was so sick from the odors i didn’t realize how much gas i was going through since i left co. the ford at that time in april 2019 had 5,000 miles on it and i was told the reason my fuel economy was so poor along with only getting 5-10 miles per gallon and the frightening smells and sickness were caused by the new emission set up and they refused to listen to my story and symptoms and charged me 500.00 to fix what looked to have been poorly installed. i now have a tbi and severe cognitive and an mri that shows evidence of carbon monoxide poisoning and things only got worse from there. thank you.

The windshield trim molding on both sides of my vehicle, at different times, became unattached, broke and flew off while traveling at 70 mph, causing damage to my vehicle, while jeopardizing the safety and well-being of other vehicles behind or around me on the road. the safety of others are at risk if this piece hit them, especially on a motocycle. the ford motor company does not offer a recall and the cost for the dealership to replace and reattach is $800-900. i have tried using cement glue to reattach, and it has also broken loose and flew off from that. these pieces are projectiles and could fatally harm someone and do damage to another vehicle. these pieces need to be recalled and replaced at no charge to the consumer.

Exhaust saftey issue / my cel came on leaving work on 9/25 , scaned code and got a code of p0430 (catalytic converter bank 2) i found a customer satisfaction program issued on 06/13/19 -(program #19m01) on this to replace under an extended warranty. the issue is warranty coverage is 11 years or 120,000 miles. the code came up at 120,325 just outside the warranty extension , ford is unwilling to extend this coverage past the 120 mile mark , this car also falls under another program that was issued 01/26/23 (program# 22m06) still ford refuses to cover under warranty for this safty issue

As i was driving on to the grocery store on a stop light i heard a rattle sound deflecting to another vehicle, the other vehicles driver heard the noise and noticed a puddle of water,and notified me. emediatly i pulled over. indeed, there was leak, unfortunately couldn't tell where it was coming from .i called my mechanic, and a tow truck.my mechanic called me today october 11,2023 to notify me that the water pump had failed.he asked me if there had been any warning sings or temperature change,i responded no.he told me that if the incident had happened on the highway, i might have caused damage to the engine and potentially the vehicle might have shut off do to over heating.keep in mind that my 2018 ford explorer only has 70,000 miles.now i'm stuck with a bill of 1,400 dollars.im gonna get an update tomorrow october 12,2023 on my vehicle status, if there was anything else damaged do to the water pump failure.no lights or warning sings were lid on my dashboard.

I have owned this vehicle for a year and have gone through three batteries. it shows multiple coded for circuit shorts - passenger mirror motor, tailgate/liftgate/trunk motor as well as the cinch striker motor, instrument panel which has lost communication with cruise control module, power steering module, battery voltage circuit below threshold, driver side curtain deployment control 1 circuit short to ground, switch illumination. when the vehicle is stopped or parked it constanly idles up to 1000 to 1500 rpms. these are all the codes that are showing on my vehicle. there has to be some sort of issue causing these problems. what happens if my airbag deploys without warning causing me to cause a major accident which can harm myself, my spouse, children and the people around me.

The nhtsa has opened an investigation into 2011-2019 models experiencing an issue with the windshield trim panel. the trim panels are cracked and disintegrating and pieces are missing posing a hazard while the vehicle is being operated at highway speeds.

Windsheild trim is breaking into pieces on the sides and coming off.the bottom trim going across the hood is getting wavy and cracking and not laying flat on the surface anymore. it is also starting to break away. dealer said no repairs for this are covered under warranty and if i want it fixed its very expensive.

Windshield molding is defective due to cracking and splitting. whistling sounds while driving. danger of molding coming off and causing an accident. i took it to the dealer and having it replaced. very costly. i understand this is under investigation but not recalled yet. please advise.

Torque converter and transmission problems cause the vehicle to stutter upon acceleration or not accelerate at all. gear shifts can be erratic. no cel or dtcs appear in the obd system. i was barely able to proceed through an intersection until the transmission finally engaged fully and i was able to accelerate correctly. ford is aware of the problem as proven by tsbs 20b27 and 20n07 but refuse to fix my vehicle as i am just outside of the expiration window and apparently my vni does not fall within the tsb program, even though my car's problems are identical to the tsb description. this transmission problem is a huge safety concern for anyone driving ford's using the 6f35 transmissions. the contact stated it was confirmed the torque converter failed and shed debris throughout the entire transmission. this cause multiple non-accelerations at stop signs and red lights, gear slipping when trying to accelerate, failure to engage first gear, and random rpm drops while lightly accelerating.

I purchased this used vehicle from carmax 1/2022. prior to my purchase it was a fleet vehicle. on 09/18/2023 i experienced ecoboost engine failure.mileage is currently roughly 49k. incident occured 2 months outside of powertrain warranty. the engine light would come on intermittently when driving. took the car for a diagnostic to diagnose issue and had #3 ignition coil replaced due to misfire message. few days later, light would come back on. after 3rd time of me going back and forth to the repair shop because of the light coming back on and vehicle drive not being as smooth as it usually is, i took the car to ford dealer service center, where i was advised that this is a known issue, but no recall has been issued at this time. in addition, i was told that this engine is on back order and will not ship out until march 2024. a loaner car has not been provided and my extended warranty covers 5 days at $35/day, that is it. i will be without a vehicle for 6 months. prior to this incident in 2022 i had a transmission issue. powertrain warranty was still in effect so ford covered it. i was without a vehicle for about 3 weeks for that repair. this has been a very dissapointing experience for a vehicle that is 5 years old and under 50k miles.

Windshield cowl (trim) had deteriorated, possibly due to common heat and sun damage. 1. we do not know whether or not the deteriorated cowl will affect windshield stability or water leaks. if windshield stability is affected, it would affect safety. 2. other complaints have noted that pieces of deteriorated cowl/trim have impacted safety of nearby vehicles. 3. the vibration, humming, and buzzing are irritating to drivers and passengers. // this observed deterioration occurred when the vehicle was 5 years old, however, we know of the same problem occurring in a 2019 explorer at about 3 years. // the local ford dealer stated it would cost over $650 to replace the cowl.

After dealer inspection of my 2018 ford explorer, i was informed that the rear knuckles needed replacement due to cracked bushing. i was informed that this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed immediately, at a cost of $2400.00. after some cursory research i found that there was a recall for 2011-2017 ford explorers with the same issue, but not for 2018. this is obviously a known problem and should be addressed for 2018 vehicles.

January 2023 - vehicle shifts hard, revs high between shift points, almost jumps between shifts. trouble code p0757- shift solenoid “b” stuck open. 85,000 miles. cost to fix $900. december 2023 - same code, same symptoms. now entire transmission needs to be replaced at a cost of $6600. 100,000 miles.

My screen went black for my ford explorer. i have no access to climate controls, backup camera, radio, gps, etc. my local ford dealership said there was a recall pending but that’s been a few months now. it’s very dangerous driving like that with my 4 and 2 year old in the car.

The passenger windshield trim piece blew off my vehicle on the interstate yesterday and caused the vehicle behind me to swerve to try to avoid it. looking through my rear view mirror, the driver appeared to lose control due to over correction. the driver avoided a collision and crash, but it looked hairy for a few moments. the driver's side trim piece blew off my vehicle last year. after googling, i see that this is a very common problem that should be addressed, in my opinion, with a recall due to safety.

I was driving on the freeway when one of my a pillers flew off and cause the person behind me to loose control of their car. about 5 min later the other a piller flew off almost causing an accident with a semi and trailer.

On the exterior this car has a plastic a-pillar cover on both sides of the windshield, i already had one fly off on expressway ( luckily didnt hit anyone or cause an accident) i replaced the one, but now the other side is coming loose as well, not sure if its a defect in the clips or the design , but the dealer doesnt acknowledge this to be a problem, there happily charging 600.00 to replace each a-pillar and they keep coming loose

Was driving on the high way and the b pillar trim detached and was hanging by the wire. no damage was done to this area prior and appears the adhesive gave out. due to incident back lift gate is inoperable and displays as open.

While driving on the interstate the piece of trim along the passenger side windshield flew off. no warnings. i am unsure if it caused any damage to anyone driving near me. it took me a moment to realize what had happened. i took the car to ford repair where they had to replace the pillar molding, pillar molding hardware kit, and pillar molding mount bracket.

I have a 2018 explorer that may be involved in the ford recall for the windshield trimpieces that may come loose. i may not have that issue but i have an issue with trim pieces separating from both the drivers and front passenger doors.

In addition to this recall on my vehicle, nhtsa recall number: 24v031. this is not the only problem around the windows but the pillars on the driver and passenger doors are coming off as well. when we were looking at other ford explorers on 1/1/23. we noticed that this is a common issue with all the ford explorers that we looked at. please look into fixing that as well! i am attaching 4 pictures to show the already recalled parts as well as driver and passenger doors.

On february 9, 2024 i was headed to work as a icu charge nurse. i was driving about 65 mph on the highway and suddenly my engine failed. my engine completely turned off. i wasn’t able to press the gas to accelerate. my steering wheel also locked so i had no control over my vehicle anymore. eventually, smoke started to come from my engine. i nearly lost my life with no control over my vehicle. someone could have hit me from the spontaneous failure of the engine. this was extremely traumatic for me. i bought this car from a ford dealership and get all my services done through ford. on january 24, 2024 i took my car to ford for a multi-point inspection, oil change, and tire rotation. i also got a fuel system change. i had no warning lamps, messages, or any symptoms that the vehicle would fail prior to the incident. i got my vehicle towed to the dealership of purchase. they reported that it was an internal failure of the engine from a broken water pump. this is an ongoing issue that ford is aware of. how does a water pump fail with no indication? why hasn’t there been a recall on ford’s water pump and engine failure. how many people have to lose their lives before a safety recall is issued. i was lucky to survive that but others may not be. please help!

Received letter for ford recall #20n11 roof rack becoming unattached while driving. went to viva ford and dealership said there was no remedy for it at the moment. roof rack has already started lifting, was only instructed they can put glue which is useless due to glue not adhering in the hot temperatures.

Heat stopped working in dec. had it checked by local mechanic coolant very low but couldn’t find leak. heat was working and no check engine light ever went on. about month later had car back for oil change and mechanic found leak, again no check engine or warning ever came on. finally got appt at ford dealer $3000 to repair and was told would take 11 hrs. ten days later car was supposed to be fixed. pick up car. next day when heat was put on there was a terrible burning rubber smell and now a very load noise which wasn’t there when vehicle was dropped off

Three times within the last 4 years i have had a map sensor failure. i was told the first time, this is rare. i was told the second time, this never happens twice. this time i'm told that they just don't know what is causing it. must be 3 bad sensors in a row somehow. the engine failure on [xxx] was nearly catastrophic and i nearly died. i was going 70mph on a [xxx] at [xxx]. [xxx] can be dangerous under the best conditions, this was during dangerous storms along with being at rush hour. the engine completely stalls and i lose all power to drive. the first time it happened in a parking lot in august of 2020. the second time was sept of 2022 and i was in my neighborhood. sunset ford has no explanation and have repaired it and sent me on my way once again. there are no signs this will happen - it just suddenly happens and i have no ability to react due to the complete engine stall. i have also had 2 oil system failures with this vehicle. it has only 42k miles on it. i do not feel safe driving this vehicle. i don't understand how this is acceptable at all honestly. how can i feel safe driving my children in this vehicle? 5 major repairs in just over 4 years. have the repairs been done correctly? i question why more has not been done to ensure that another catastrophic event doesn't happen that could result in death of myself or family. even my numerous requests for information and service reports were met with resistance and what seems like attempts at hiding information from sunset ford. not only could i have been seriously injured or killed, but this could have caused a large scale accident affecting many others on that hwy. this feels negligent by either sunset ford or by ford mo co. this should not happen in a safe and reliable vehicle. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Ford explorer transmission is out and at 62000 miles just under 5 years old. while driving vehicle it will loose power, making it difficult to drive safely. vehicle is currently at a ford dealership that verified issued. ford motor company states must submit complaint here. when vehicle looses power it states "check manual" with a wrench symbol. no check engine is displayed.

Water pump failed. coolant is leaking

Car developed leaks and a mold smell. brought car to dealer, apparently, sunroof drains were plugged up cause water to build up in the car. the mold is making my wife and i sick. this is a severe health hazard caused by a manufacturing or design defect. the service dept at the dealer tried 3 or 4 time to sanitize, all failed and now they recommend replacing all of the upholstery in the car, rugs, headliner and seats. mold has permeated this vehicle and it is not driveable. ford should issue a recall for this problem and cover any costs.

I own a 2018 ford explorer there has been an issue when it’s cold out the apim is not responding and turning on the reverse camera when vehicle is put into reverse. when it is above 70 degrees fahrenheit the apim works intermittently. the problem with this is out of the blue when it decides to work at times it turns the radio on with volume at max level this has startled me not knowing it’s going to come on and it won’t let you turn the radio down or power it off. ford says there is no recall on the issue.

Power steering assist fault warning flashed briefly on 6/1/2024, everything has been fine until 6/8/2024 i went out and started my car the power steering assist fault warning came on again so i turned the car off and turned it back on the warning was still there. my husband came out and did the same thing, still there. he noticed that the steering wheel was locked and would not turn easily. so we took it down to the ford dealership and it is the steering rack needs replaced. my car has 21,000 miles on it. going to be in shop for 4 days to fix.

Ford ecoboost 2.0 engine failure at 66,000 miles as coolant has leaked into the engine compartment and oil pan. known issue by ford as design defect on the ecoboost engines. current class action lawsuit over this [xxx] et al., v. ford motor company, case no. [xxx], filed in the united states district court for the district of delaware. plaintiffs have experienced the exact same failures on the ecoboost engines. ford issued multiple technical service bulletins (tsbs) and other service messages for vehicles equipped with ecoboost engines. luckily, the failure occurred at home and not while driving at highway speeds as there have been reports of fires occurring if vehicle is moving during failure. vehicle began rough idling 7-10 days ago and check engine light showed a code for misfire of cylinder. had plugs changed but check engine light returned and then as of today, after overheating light came on dash upon startup with clouds of white smoke coming from exhaust, checked coolant levels and it was empty and drained down into the oil pan showing milky colored oil. again... ford knows about this issue with ecoboost and has since 2017 and has failed to issue recall for customer safety due to cost factors and continues to address on case by case basis with most common offer to cover partial cost of engine replacement. most consumers don't have the financial resources to sue ford, so they continue to take advantage of their size and financial power to abuse customers. please take action about this known issue and review the above class action case before ford's negligence results in consumer death or serious injury. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

My cars b pillar (security pad) became unattached from my car while simply driving down the road. this part detaching caused my liftgate to lock and make me unable to open my truck for anyone and also the part could have fallen into the road way and caused a disturbance or accident to cars behind me. there was no indication of my security pad going to detach from my car and with the current recall on the a pillars it is safe to believe that manufacturing caused this issue as well with the b pillars as other explorer owners have had this similar experience with the vehicles.

Our radio and back up assistance screen just stop working

Failed water pump/coolant leak. vehicle will suddenly overheat and engine can seize. vehicle will stop unexpectedly and endanger the lives of the driver, passenger and other motorists. temperature warning and check engine light comes on only when vehicle is overheated at which point there is no coolant left. issue has been confirmed by an independent service center. i was told that they would not touch this repair and to take it to a dealership due to the location of the water pump, it's relationship to the timing chains and the labor intensive job. the part is inexpensive. a simple google search indicates that this is a known design problem since approximately 2011 and affects many makes and models. there are several class action law suits and a recall was issued in canada for the same issue. ford will acknowledge "off the books" that it is a problem but offer no financial assistance or support for their design flaw. it is an extremely costly repair for a very pricey vehicle.

The apim module that controls the display and functioning has stopped working. the following are a couple of safety concerns with this: 1. the backup camera does not work. i almost hit a pedestrian while backing up because of this. 2. hands free features with communication and gps is not available. not having this feature takes away a hand from the steering wheel and focus on the road. 3. some of the climate controls are not accessible. i took the car to a ford dealer who confirmed that the apim module is not working. no one else has checked the car. there was a gradual decline in functionality before it completely stopped working. some trips it would work and others it did not. the frequency of it not working increased until it completely stopped working.

Our 2018 ecoboost ford explorer started releasing smoke from the tailpipe when starting in april 2023. i took it in to the ford of kirkland dealership in early may 2023. they kept my car for 9 weeks, and then said there is nothing wrong with it and gave it back in july 2023. the car kept having the same issue. this was while it was still under warranty about 96,000 miles. fast forward to february 2024, the car has continued to smoke this entire time since the dealership gave it back in july. in february, i was driving home on the freeway going up hill when the car suddenly decelerated rapidly. i was able to get off the freeway and have my husband come and he got it home. we contacted the dealership (ford of kirkland) the same one that did nothing in 2023. they trailered it in for a look. the response we got from the service manager was that "the engine needs replaced due to scoring in the cylinder and low compression". we could not afford to pay for an engine replacement, so we wrote a letter to ford, who responded "thank you for letting us know, but there are no recalls and it is out of warranty, so save your receipts and if a recall comes up you could potentially be reimbursed". i received this response from ford in june 2024, so basically they were unwilling to help. imagine my surprise that a recall was just announced today for the exact issue we have with our car in other model years, but not our model year. i would like to know my rights. i am still paying on a car that has a failed engine, with ford basically having told me they will do nothing. as noted, this issue is confirmed by the ford of kirkland dealership, which i have in writing from the service manager. the car has not been inspected by the manufacturer directly, but is available for inspection if you would like. the car has been sitting for several months now, while we try to figure out what to do. we don't have $10,000 to replace a motor that we should not need to replace.

Check engine light showing. diagnostic testing shows misfire in cylinder #3. ford dealership ran diagnostic testing ($169.95) and verified concern and found coolant intrusion cylinder #3. advised, due to mileage (75,976 miles), replacement of long block. replacement cost estimated at $11k. no repairs have been performed at this point due to excessive cost. second diagnostic test ($89.95) with independent mechanic - confirmed original verification and found evidence of wear on long block. mechanic stated that he currently had a ford edge in the shop with the same issues. there is currently a class action law suit against ford for same the issue..

I am the original owner of my 2018 ford explorer. i brought it to my dealership for issues and one was, i have been experiencing a loud intermittent obnoxious noise while driving over 55 mph. sounds like it is coming from the top of my windshield to the roof, before the sunroof. nothing is loose, up in this area at all. the bottom rubber trim, all across the bottom of my windshield has come away from the windshield showing deformation in its entirely of large gaps. the technician confirmed this is where the noise is coming from and is a hazzard and needs to be replaced for $500.00. i have extended warranty; however, it does not cover this, but ford should, it is defective !!

I purchased this vehicle nov. 2021 with 46,000 miles and still having warranty on it. after driving less than 3000 miles began to see large/heavy amounts of blue smoke coming from the exhaust when starting the vehicle along with random loud noise at certain times when starting. checked the oil and it was almost 2 quarts low and oil life said only 33% left. complained that i thought it was burning oil at the dealership and their fix was to give me a free oil change and a new air filter saying there was no problem. i continued to have these same issues over the next 2 years with no documentation by the dealership of my complaints and no solution to the continued problems. at 1 point it was over 3 qrt. low on oil with none on the ground. then on 3- 31-24 while headed for vacation and over 3 hrs from home driving 70+ mph lost all power to the vehicle and thankfully close to an exit on highway. had expense of a rental to continue on vacation. had to reach out to a friend to tow the vehicle back 3+ hrs to home. had an independent mechanic diagnose the car finding out it was a catastrophic misfire and loss of compression in 2 cylinders. complained to dealership who then did their own diagnostics getting same answer. the vehicle by this time out of warranty and dealership doesn't want to help with paying for a new motor. made 2 complaints to ford directly with zero help. all of this should've been documented at the time of complaints so when the misfire actually occurred i might've gotten some help. i can't afford a new motor so had to borrow a car from a neighbor while figuring out what to do. the dealership solution was to trade me out of it into a newer vehicle which i'm not fond of and have a significantly higher payment which i didn't want either do to having now negative equity in the trade. now finding out there is a recall on the same issue but for different year. i would hope that they would recall all ecoboost and there would be some compensation

On the highway doing 70 mph when the 2018 explorer started to sway back n forth and skipping across the road, got it stopped on the side of road and found out that my rear drivers toe link has broke. i see ford has a recall on the 2016 - 2017 explorers for this problem... i'm lucky that i didn't kill someone or crash the vehicle. it was not a fun ride with my wife and kids in the suv.

For the 2nd row passenger seat the clip has broken. you can not safely have a passenger in the seat. i have been trying for over a year to get the part. i was told by the last person who looked at it that it is specific to the air bag seat belts in the second row. i also had a coworker who had the exact same part break. for the first 6 months i tried to get this resolved they were so far backordered that the dealership would not even take my name to get on the list for the back order. they finally took my name last month, but its still on back order. it has now been over a year with a seat unalbe to be used for a passenger. i am trying to figure out how if so many people are in line for this part that it is not a safety recall issue...also why are they not just replacing the entire set up as they seem to have a very common issue going on here. what if that were to have broken during an accident.

Driving home from work when all of a sudden my car started jerking, not shifting correctly and could hear a noticeable noise coming from the engine. low oil pressure light came on and pulled over. car would not restart. had it towed to mechanic and was determined that the engine was hydrolocked due to coolant getting into the pistons and oil. new engine needed on a 6 year old car with 91,000 miles. upon researching it seems this is a common problem with eco boost engines and i don’t believe i should be responsible for this apparent common issue.

As i made a turn, the toe link broke and caused my car to be thrown to side of road.

I first contacted the dealership on july 29, 2024 to set up an appointment and again on oct. 8, 2024. i took my vehicle to the dealership on 11/22/24 to have the recalls on my vehicle corrected. on pickup i was informed that the pillars had not been fixed became there were no parts available. the following day while driving on the highway something hit the side of my vehicle. when i arrived at my destination i noticed on the passenger side windshield pillar was missing and the passenger doors were scratched. i’m concerned because the drivers side pillar may fall of and hurt someone. in addition i’m concerned about the windshield falling due to the cracking of the sealant. i need to use my vehicle to go to work.

We took the car in for the recall 24v031 which is not able to be fixed at this time due to lack of parts. the ford dealership explained to us that there were 2 other recalls on this vehicle that had not been addressed. they asked us if we wanted them fixed. we agreed to have them fixed. one being the luggage rack clips the other being high speed fan motor relay switch. the luggage rack was completed. the dealership replaced the fan not the relay switch as the recall indicated. when we brought the vehile home, the fan was super loud and would come on when ever it wanted too, whether the vehicle was running or shut off. it would also runn continuously even though it was not hot out nor had the car been running. we took the car back to the dealership. they looked into it. ordered apart that never came. they had our car for 3 weeks and finally after arguing amongst themselves determined the relay switch should be replaced. once we brought the car home, again the fan is super loud and runs randomly. the dealership has washed their hands of this situation. telling us we are welcome to take it to another dealership as they believe the fan is running properly. we never had any indication that the fan was running improperly to begin with. my car was quiet and ran wonderfully. now it is loud and actually embarrassing. our friend was walking by and heard a loud noise like an airplane. he turned the corner and said wow that's your fan in the explorer, that isn't right. this sucks. i love my explorer but because of this i really don't. i believe it is not fixed and maybe never needed to be fixed. we followed all of the channels thru ford to have this remedied. now i am putting it in your hands.

Description in some of the affected vehicles it may be possible that some of the exterior a-pillar applique trim clip attachments are not properly engaged due to improper assembly or repair. if this occurs, the a-pillar applique trim, which borders the right and left side of the windshield, may be loose, missing or become detached. safety risk an exterior a-pillar trim part that detaches while driving can create a road hazard for other road users, increasing the risk of a crash. i bought the car jauary 19, 2024. the parts to fix this was supposed to be here by fall of 2024. this is affecting my job and will not be able to work soon. i do uber and they want this fixed or they will cancel me.

Windshield trim piece came off while traveling on the freeway.

Both. vehicles were moving. the explorer front hit the right rear panel of a 2011 ford ranger. both vehicles were going approximately 30 mph. no injuries sustained by either driver. my ford explorer air bags did not deploy. i was on a city street the other vehicle was just beginning to turn.

Today i noticed that the trim on my windshield was cracked, broken and falling off. my car has about 40k miles on it and would not have expected this to fall apart already. this past year i may have driven my car 5000 miles. it has not been in any storms or eight wind situations. i have been hearing a strange noise in the front but did not connect this to a trim molding issue. it is dangerous because it could fly off and hit a pedestrian,motorcycle rider or bicycle rider or even another vehicle.

This car has a leak issue. multiple points of entry for water leave the car soaking wet after rain. this issue was unknown as all-weather liners were placed into the car blocking occupants from being able to feel large amount of water accumulated on the floor. mold grew in car as occupants did not know that their was an issue posing an extreme health hazard to adults and children. this is not safe. ford knows this is a known issue and has not taken any action to remedy the problem. the car leaks while in motion and stationary. cars are leaking from sunroofs, bolts, and from under the hood. this is making people sick and they do not care. a class action suit needs to be filed against ford. my car had to be repaired twice at hawks prairie automotive in lacey, wa in december 2020 and january 2021. receipts can be provided. i am unsure if this actually repaired the issue completely.

On january 24, 2021 i bought my certified pre-owned 2018 ford explorer sport. the following week i heard an intermittent banging sound when driving down the road at approx. 60 mph. when i got home i saw that the plastic coverings of the roof rack rails were coming off and were what was making the banging sound. from researching the issue online it appears if left unaddressed the covers can fly off the vehicle while on the road. unfortunately ford has yet to provide a fix. there are hundreds of complaints from people online show this is a very common problem and ford has yet to provide a adequate solution for. some people have stated that ford's fix is to apply silicone to the clips that come loose. upon inspection i see that silicone had been applied to mine previously (not by me) and that, like many other report, this does not hold/ resolve the problem. many more user complaints of this issue can be found here https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t73385_ds991660

We took our 2018 ford explorer into the shop last winter complaining of a bad smell. the shop kept our car for about 5 days and said there was nothing wrong. 2 weeks ago my wife went to the er and was diagnosed with carbon monoxide poisoning. we began working with for to help get this fixed, 5 days later she passed out at the wheel and wrecked into a telephone poll. while at the er there was carbon monoxide in her blood again. thank goodness she didn't hit a family or something worse. since then ford has refused to work with us since the car is wrecked. this is a problem and needs to be looked into!*dt*jb*dt *tr

While traveling with adaptive cruise engaged we were in left lane following a semi approximately 1000’ ahead of us and when he moved over to make an exit our vehicle passed by and auto braked hard causing vehicles behind us to take evasive action from hitting us along with vehicles in the right lane of traffic. this also happened again the following week except passing by a dump truck. i was aware that time an mashed accelerator in time as instructed as per operating manual. i don’t feel safe using my cruise with or without adaptive on and now several weeks later i’m getting an “adaptive cruise not available” message displayed on instrument panel.

Driving in the dark and passenger side headlight went out. got diagnosed that it was a bad light housing.got various prices from 700 to 1200 dollars. now the light works .was out for 3 weeks decided to come back on.well i would assume its not the headlight or just faulty electronics. not sure any hekp?

When accelerating above 2500 rpm, such as when merging onto the highway / with the flow of traffic, or accelerating up hill, the cabin fills with a foul odor which smells like burnt oil or bad exhaust. this happens with re-circulation turned on or off, and also with the a/c / fan units powered off entirely and usually windows must be rolled down to get the odor/fumes to leave the cabin. my concern is if the smell is coming in, all the toxic gasses and fumes that come with it are also entering the cabin.

While driving the other night in rain, night and heavy traffic, i heard some flapping from the roof of the car, but could not stop because we were in a mountain pass and winding roads. i did see something like fly off of my car and cars behind me were swerving, i thought maybe a small branch. but no it was the top cap of my roof rail on the driver side. the part is $450, and when i googled it, it is definitely a known problem at ford. hundreds of hits with the same issue

The two front hankook tires have wear in the form of flaking rubber around the whole tire. at about 10,000 miles, we went to ford to have it looked at and they referred us to the tire store. they said it was fine, but as i look at the other complaints, it is obvious that these tires have a flaw and there should be some compensation given. at 32,000 miles of city road driving, the tires had to be replaced.

The rail cover on top of the car just came off with no one messing with or being damaged. i researched to see if other has a problem like this and i found numerous of people saying the rail cover just detached form the actual rail. while driving down the highway.

I have been experiencing acceleration/transmission concerns, where the vehicle essential stalls and will not accelerate. after approximately 5 seconds, the computer and transmission appear to “sync” and the vehicle will accelerate, but the issue will continue to happen until the vehicle is turned off and back on again. the first time this happen, i was in a costco parking lot, so i did not think much of it. the second time this happen, july 12th, 2020, i was crossing a busy road of traffic near my home and was almost involved in a serious accident as a result of this failure. as i was crossing the 2 lanes of traffic to make a left hand turn, my vehicle stalled and i was almost side swiped by an oncoming vehicle. after this incident, i had my vehicle towed to a ford dealership for inspection. upon extensive analysis of the vehicle, the technicians could not find anything wrong with the vehicle including no failed sensors in the computer and the technicians were not able to replicate the concern. on august 19th, 2020, my check engine light came on and i immediately returned the vehicle to ford dealership hoping this was a result of the issues i had been having. upon another diagnosis, the error was cleared for an engine knock sensor, but this was not related to my concerns with the acceleration or transmission.

The electronic steering system detected a fault, twice. loss power steering while driving on city street. i could barely turn the vehicle.

I purchased the ford explorer sport last november 2018, and there’s no squeaking noise under the steering wheel. i noticed it last month and i go straight at the ford dealership and they told me it’s the characteristic of the car. im so disappointed with the diagnosis, the disturbing noise is under the steering wheel, and the confusing part is the squeaking noise you can only hear that when you turn the steering wheel to the right. hopefully you can pin point the problem. if it’s the steering wheel or the air bag inside is the problem.

Vehicle equipped with a 3.5l ecoboost v6 engine had an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (mil), powertrain malfunction (wrench) lamp, service advancetrac message, hill start assist not available message, and lack of power with diagnostic trouble code p0107 (map faulty). occurred while pulling away from a red light without warning. this disabled the vehicle in middle of intersection and power steering was lost. vehicle lurched erratically and had to be pushed to safety then towed to dealer. very unsafe as it literally died and steering went out without warning!!! initially towed to colley ford in glendora, ca. that dealer was so horrific to deal with, we had the suv immediately towed (again) to puente hills, ca dealer. unacceptable handling by colley ford.

In march 2018 i bought a brand new 2018 explorer. in november 2019 my security system started going off on it's own without any disturbance to the vehicle or me touching my keys. the next day the battery was dead and the ford service center told me my battery was dead due to a cold snap (we are in sc...it does not get that cold). i had to get a brand new battery. now less than a year later, it's august 2020 and the key pad on the driver's side exterior door is malfunctioning and blinking uncontrollably until it finally died and does not work. the car is still functioning fine up until this point. now 3 weeks later, my car did not start this morning and i had to be jumped off. i took it to the ford dealership and they said something is draining my battery and it is not holding a charge. there's no reason why a 2018 explorer should need two new batteries in 2 years. something is draining my battery and no one can tell me what that issue is.

Had car serviced on 06/13/20 battery 100% documented. on 07/09/20 while driving the vehicle a quarter of mile from my house when the battery exploded. there was a strong sulfur(rotten egg) smell that filled the whole car and was hard to breathe. stopped the car and opened the hood and confirmed that the battery had exploded spraying acid all over the entire engine compartment, down under the whole car and covering the tailgate and tires as well since the car was in motion when it happened. ford wants to take no responsibility for the battery defect they are calling it. i've had to open a comprehensive claim through car insurance to cover all the body damages and mechanical damages from the acid. the car only had 43,000 miles when it happened with a 2 year old ford manufactured battery that was just serviced as noted in the beginning being at 100%. there was never a indicator light from the battery or engine claiming that something was happening or did happen. my health report on my car still said nothing was wrong even though my battery had exploded.

When accelerating we can smell exhaust in the cabin of our vehicle. this has been an ongoing issue for more than a year. we have to roll the windows down to get air. on trips from phoenix to san diego thru the mountain passes we have gotton dizzy from exhaust smell. i have taken it to the dealer 4+ times to complain about this issue, dealer has said its a known issue with no fix. you can smell the humidity of the exhaust as well as the burnt oil. every time i get in my vehicle with friends, i’m embarrassed of smelling exhaust and hope it doesn't affect health of anyone. we can see the exhaust soot building up along the engine block and exhaust manifold but the dealer told us thats normal road grime.

I have a ford explorer limited 2018 with rotten egg and sulfur smell when remote start at idle and hard acceleration. i took the vehicle for the 3rd time and got it back after 14 days. i was hoping they would replace the catalytic converter but they declined it. the report stated there were no cat converter code and that by design the ford explorer's catalytic converter has normal sulfur and rotten egg smell. this was taken from the vehicle report " some sulfur or rotten egg type smells from the exhaust are normal because of the catalytic converter design. please confirm the source of this stench because after hard acceleration and or remote starts the exhaust fumes could smell like sulfur and it's normal" . how can i claim the 8yrs/80,000 miles catalytic converter when they call sulfur and rotten egg normal? will i just expose my family to cancer causing fumes? if i trade this vehicle i will be $5000 negative and the person who will buy this vehicle will have the same issues. i can provide a copy of the service report if needed. *tr

Vehicle came with hankook ventus s1 noble 2, 255/50r20 tires. we only have 15k miles on the vehicle and the tires already need to be replaced. we had them rotated at the dealership at the scheduled oil change interval. one of the tires developed a slow leak and required re inflation each week. one rear tires lost all air pressure while we were driving on the street. there was no nail or hole found it it. the tires are shredding tread as well. all 4 need to be replaced but neither ford or hankook have answered our complaint. these tires need to be recalled because they are dangerous.

2018 ford explorer has a roof rail issue where the top part the the roof rail that comes factory on the vehicle will pop out of place and not clamp down properly the for part number is fb5z 78551a47 aa and also fb5z 78551a46 aa one belongs to the left and the other the right. i was driving down the high way with them not fully seated in the back end of the railing and noticed when i got home that they must have flown off while driving down the highway. this is the second sime i have had them fixed and they are now not staying down properly seated. luckly my vehicle has warranty on it still to get it fixed but if this is going to happen outside of warranty its not a cheap fix unfortunatly.

The top cap on the drivers side (where the luggage rack is) came completely off while driving on the highway. the passenger side one keep coming loose. this is a safety hazard, as the piece that flew off could have injured someone or worse. this is not a safe piece on the suv and needs to be addressed, as many, many people have complained about this issue.

For weeks now the car has been deciding what to do. the air conditioner randomly turns off or won't turn on. the window won't roll up or down. lights in the dashboard randomly go on and off all the time. sometimes there is just a loud noise but no lights. then recently when i was driving on the highway going 55 mph with my 3 children the car shut its self off. the lights went crazy then shut off. there was no gas or brakes as i was going 55 mph. once the car came to a rolling stop. it did not turn back on. once towed to the dealership, they cannot find anything wrong.

When climbing hills and engine at high rpm i can smell exhaust in the cabin portion of my vehicle. i initially thought it was the vehicle in front of me, but it happened again a few days later when i was traveling through the hills again. same circumstances, climbing hills at a high rpm. speed was approximately 65 mph. the smell was exactly the same as if i was walking behind the car in the morning after staring the engine.

Constant smells of carbon monoxide in my vehicle almost every time i accelerate above 3500 rpm. i've taken it to two dealerships more than three times for the same problem with no solution. every time i get in my vehicle i dread smelling this stuff and hope it doesn't affect me or a loved one.

We purchased a brand new 2018 ford explorer in september of 2018. around october/november 2018 i started having a lot of dizzy spells and panicked attacks while i was driving the explorer. i was in and out of drs weekly sometimes more than weekly for these episodes. drs thought it was anxiety so would increase medications, or change medications and i continued with same symptoms. i drove the explorer numerous times a day as i have kids and would feel this way 90% of my day every day. i went thru physical therapy, mental therapy and also sent to a heart doctor up until 2 months ago when we purchased another vehicle and i never had a issue while driving that. my fiancÉ drove the explorer one day which he never did as it was my vehicle and he had his vehicle and he smelled a gas smell and questioned me about it but i had been suffering respiratory illnesses during this time and could never smell anything so i never noticed the smell. my son was having vomiting spells numerous times a week and drs said it was a generalized vomiting issue. i contacted the dealership we purchased the explorer at and they came and picked it up. once they checked it over they called me and said they had to order a whole new muffler system as it was leaking carbon monoxide into the cabin of my explorer. i contacted ford motor company and they said they would fix it in which they did but the damage was done i had been suffering physically and mentally for a year and due to the pan nick attacks while driving i could barely drive most days and still struggle due to the fear i’ve encounter behind the wheel. ford basically said i could trade it or keep it that’s all they would offer me. i wanted them to buy it back as i couldn’t get back in it. i’ve had no issues since i stopped driving it neither has my son. i didn’t get any paperwork when it was fixed so i can’t give u that.

When starting vehicle, the inside of my vehicle fills with a strong smell of gas. this is an ongoing and reoccurring issue. i believe it may be the cause of my 6 year olds child’s frequent headaches and bouts with nausea that began at the same time i started noticing the gas smell issue.

Vehicle was traveling at approximately 45 mph on a smooth strait stretch of road when a loud back was heard and a sudden loss of steering resulting in striking the curb as it came to a stop. upon inspection it appears the lower control arm failed just before the balljoint and had broken in half. this appears it's an issue across a range if explorers that utilize the same control arm.

Vehicle was struck from behind by a pick-up truck driving at a high rate of speed. upon impact my vehicle’s front seats collapsed into the back seats causing the seat belts to be ineffective. as a result the passenger in my vehicle sustained back and neck injuries. my vehicle was stationary as the traffic was at a standstill. the vehicle that struck my vehicle was traveling at about 70 miles per hour.

Carbon monoxide in the passenger compartment of a 2018 ford interceptor utility (a honeywell bwc2r-m carbon monoxide alarm had been installed in the vehicle due to the history of carbon monoxide issues with these vehicles). on october 21, 2019 two officers were patrolling in the 2018 ford interceptor utility. the officer were accelerating quickly as they entered the highway when the carbon monoxide alarm activated. the officer stopped accelerating and rolled down the windows. the carbon monoxide alarm reset and no further activations have been reported.(this report came a month after another of the city's ford interceptor utility vehicles went to the dealership twice for carbon monoxide in the passenger cabin. the first incident was accompanied by a foul odor and the egr purge valve was replaced. the vehicle was placed back in service and within a week the carbon monoxide alarm activated again. ford was unable to duplicate the carbon monoxide in the passenger cabin so no repairs were done.)

Starting whit a noise problem on engine we bring the vehicle to service department them said was not a problem 2 months later we are here on service department for steering wheel problem, brake noise, to much problems. we buy a new car to avoid this problems and issues wasting our time. and money.

On hard acceleration exhaust fume gets inside the cabin even when the a/c is on circulating mode. when parked on idle with a/c circulating mode toxic smell gets in the cabin too. it can be smelled or detected more on the rubber door seals around the vehicle. took it to ford multiple times but they cannot solve the issue. im worried about my family’s health. ford usa gave me 40,000 miles free oil change and tire rotation to make me feel a little better. i think this is a common problem of ford explorer.

Becoming ill while driving 2018 ford explorer. on several occasions, after an hour or so of interstate driving i felt as if i was going to pass out, also experienced dizziness, headache, nausea, difficulty concentrating, and anxiety. symptoms became more severe after each trip. finally, after my daughter also experienced dizziness while driving my vehicle, i researched other drivers experiencing the same symptoms and realized other ford explorer drivers were experiencing similar symptoms from carbon monoxide exposure. after doing some research and bringing this issue to the attention of our ford dealership, it was recommended installing a carbon monoxide detector. it was installed and the presence of carbon monoxide was detected. i have been without a vehicle for the past three weeks. it has been at the dealship. this case is now with the ford office of counsel and i haven’t had any information or correspondence from ford.

The 2018 ford explorer xlt with black plastic roof racks. i have had a rack blow off twice in higher speed situations! three times to dealership, replaced now, tried new clips, tried glueing, they still cannot correct, and are unwilling to fully replace both racks entirely unless it flies off again. this is extremely dangerous! i was traveling 50mph when i watched it land in the road. had a car been behind me and swerved to miss it, accident for sure! a motorcyclist or horse draw buggy could have resulted in a fatality. this is not a small part, it’s a long luggage rack rail. according to customers online, ford has done many of these repairs on many explorers and not issued a recall or at least changed the part ? does a human have to get injured or killed before something gets accomplished?

The car sat for 7 days (we are retired) and the starter button did not respond on the first two tries to start engine. it happened on two occasions. if left at an airport, we might have been stranded. i believe the cause is the high current drain for the wifi and other electronics going on. the dealer said to check battery. the problem does not occur unless the car is unused for a number of days.

While parking vehicle suddenly accelerated when moving forward so much that had to turn wheel to right side to try to avoid car parked in front to no avail hit car parked in front with driver side bumper and fender.thank god there was light pole in sidewalk which slowed down car enough to be shut off.

There is a strong exhaust smell in the cabin of the vehicle under medium/heavy acceleration. it comes through the a/c vents and is way stronger in the rear back seats than the front seats. i have to roll down the windows for a few miles to let it air out. once at highway speeds the smell will disappear until you start climbing a hill or steep grade or you were forced to slow down and get back up to highway speeds. the dealer has stated they can not duplicate my concerns. i have three small children that all ride in the back please tell me what are my options at this point.

I bought a brand new ford explorer, the passenger door flew open while i was driving at 40 mph. ray skillman dealership have to "fix" the door that was twisted and warped. then it leaked. they put on a new gasket. it still leaks and soaks me when i open the door after a rain. so ford told me they would send a field inspector to check my vehicle my explorer sat at ray skillman ford a week, no one from ford came. now the patronize me. i pay almost 900 a month for this new explorer, and i notice things are shifted to the right, like the panels doors, ect. the door was popping open while locked, which set the alarm off all hours of the night. they will do nothing. something is wrong with this new vehicle. ford will not replace it. i have made 12 complaints to the ford company complaint line. they do not care. when i took the vehicle in when the door flew open while driving, they had it for 3 days, refused to give me a receipt for what they did. Hankook tires - 255/50r20 105h venus s1/s2 - had only 2/32nd tread after 21,000 miles. these tires came on my 2018 ford explorer, which i purchased new. both ford and hankook tires knew about the accelerated wear issue when i purchased the vehicle, but neither company made me aware of it.

Strong smell of exhaust and rotten eggs entered the cabin 5 times during a 4 hour road trip during acceleration and at higher speeds. the smell caused headaches and nausea. the windows had to be opened to relieve the smell. the issue was reported to the ford dealership on the next possible business day after occurring for review in a scheduled maintenance within 2 weeks of that date. numerous tsb (for previous model years 2011-2017) and complaints (for model years including 2018) for this same problem can be found in online searches. at the time of recording this complaint, my truck is still with the dealership under review.

I believe the headlights on ford explorers are defective. when encountering one in the oncoming lane of a 2 lane road, the headlight are overly bright and annoying in the daylight. at night they are blinding painful and dangerous. it doesn't help that the manufacturers of trucks, including suvs, position the headlights at the same distance above the road as the windshield of a sedan.

The explorer will randomly not start like a dead battery, but then starts other times. battery had been replaced by the dealer. side mirrors will fold in while driving and will not fold back out until the car is stopped, turned off and then restarted. when these issues are present the sync 3 system will completely turn off. this is random at the times it happens and the dealer has not experienced it while its been in the shop. we purchased the explorer with 500 miles it as a new car january 13th 2019. it has 4200 miles on it and has been in the dealers shop a total of 23 days. the largest problem we have and why the vehicle is parked in our garage and does not get driven is the exhaust fumes in the cabin. its so strong that if you drive it any length of time you get a severe headache. my entire family got sick all at once on the one and only trip we took in this vehicle. the dealer also experienced this when the technician got sick driving the car. they preformed the recall protocol for previous year explorers and made us take it but the problem is more prevalent than ever now. ive hired an attorney and the dealership will be getting a formal demand letter to purchase the vehicle back for what we paid. ive tried to talk to the gm of the dealership and while he agrees there is a huge problem with the car they will not buy it back unless we agree to loose money. ford denied a claim we made for them to reacquire the vehicle, and they denied it before the the dealership was even done with their evaluation. it's been a very difficult experience and seems unless my attorney gets involved there will not be a resolution.

My 2018 ford explorer has under 9,000 miles on it and i've been experiencing exhaust smells in the cabin while merging on the interstate. this happens during acceleration. i have brought my vehicle to ford several times now with no real answer. they said that they have not been able to "recreate" the smell so their hands are tied. they told me to turn off the recirculate ac function to get rid of the smell. clearly, if that was their directive, they know that explorers are having an issue. i was told today that i should contact ford directly because the issue does not include 2018s. i have 2 young children that in my vehicle with me and something needs to be done about this problem. i owe money on this vehicle that is putting my family in danger and have no answers on how to get the problem fixed.

Vehicle exhaust system emits carbon monoxide and other fuel fumes into the cabin on various occasions while driving. usually occurs during an acceleration with stress as in an uphill push to the top or in local traffic while changing lanes with acceleration stress. these are heavy enough fumes to cause nasal discomfort, on occasion light headed feelings, and throat irritation. the dealer has used all ford motor co. protocols and the fumes still persist. fmc has had a regional director contact me which resulted in going to another dealer to try the protocols again. although there has been some reduction in the volume of fumes, the vehicle still emits the fumes into the cabin. fmc has now, one plus years later, told me to buy a carbon monoxide meter to test for existence or hire an attorney. no offer of a trade-in at a price to offset the deficiency. that being said, i did test drive two 2019 xlt's and had the same emissions occur in both cars within 24 hours of the over night drives.

Driving the vehicle at about 40mph coming off a bridge, i hear a rattle coming from the rear of the vehicle as i brake. the brake fully depressed applies virtually no braking power. i was able to bring the vehicle to a stop by pumping the brakes as well as using the emergency brake. i walked around the vehicle to see what was going on, i noticed fluid near rear passenger side tire. the rim and street had brake fluid all over it. upon further inspection part of the brake caliper assembly was hanging behind the rotor. the car was towed to a ford dealership that day. was not inspected same day as service was closed for the day on saturday. the vehicle was inspected by dealership on following monday. i was told the bots that keep the brakes in place were missing. the brake in question was inspected by a ford dealership previously as there were odd marks on brake rotor, the dealership that there were no issues and no service on brake

When test driving this new 2018 explorer xlt at hawk ford in oak lawn, il, there was a terrible sulfur smell in the cabin. it was so bad that the salesperson opened the windows, even though it was only about 5 degrees outside. this is consistent with the widely reported and known manufacturer defect of exhaust gas leaking into the cabin that has been reported on previous model year explorers and is the subject of a class action lawsuit.

Hankook produced & allows the sale of faulty ventus s1 noble 2 tires to be sold online and as oem on new vehicles. they fail within 16,000 miles. i bought a brand new 2018 ford explorer limited with 20" hankook ventus s1 noble tires as oem equipment on 2/16/18. saturday 1/19/19, i did my due diligence and headed to discount tire in terrell, tx to have our oem hankook tires rotated, they had 16,300 miles. i was beside myself when he returned and told me the tires were down to a dangerously low 4/32 tread depth and needed to be replaced. i had to pay the difference of over $400 to replace the tires on a vehicle with only 16,300 miles! how was i, the owner of the vehicle, supposed to know these would wear so quickly? they basically endangered my family by allowing this to go without notifying us! as an owner of a new vehicle it doesn't cross your mind to check tread depth of new tires on a new vehicle with 16,300 miles! hankook knows about them, but how are owners supposed to know, in their words, "special service message ssm 47195 to address 2015-2018 explorer - hankook brand 20 inch tire - tread wear tire replacement." and the ford rep shared this with me "...2015-2018 explorer vehicles equipped with hankook brand tires may exhibit tread wear that is not the result of vehicle alignment concerns. for customer satisfaction, hankook is offering pro-rated tire replacement for vehicles with less than 36,000 miles. this program is managed by hankook tire america corp. and not claimed under ford new vehicle limited warranty. if the tire side wall is marked as: 255/50r20 105h ventus s1 noble 2, contact hankook technical service for possible pro-rated tire replacement." 

Water leaking into rear of vehicle and sitting in the spare tire well while stationary and moving. water is coming from behind plastic pillar coverings and dripping through bottom onto the carpet and into the well. electronics behind plastic are also wet including water leaking through cigarrette lighter. water sitting has caused mold on carpeted areas and rust on spare tire/jack. vehicle is less than a week old with the problem occuring with less than 200 miles on odometer.

While traveling through baltimore for approximately 45 minutes during the christmas holiday. i was sitting in the back seat of my friends 2018 ford explorer sport. i had the heated seat set to 2. i had fallen asleep during the trip. when i woke up i had a severe discomfort. upon arriving at our destination my friend looked to see why i was in such pain. on my left buttock was a large burn. i have enclosed a picture of the burn i received. the burn has blistered and is now an open wound. this occurred on christmas eve. i have been treating the area with burn ointment.

I recently purchased a 2018 ford explorer on august 30 from hammonasset ford in madison, ct. i paid several thousand dollars extra for a safety package which includes rear seat belt airbags. we were disappointed to discover an issue in the second row of seats that hinders us from using one of the seats because of the airbag configuration.   the middle seat where there are seat belts for three only fits two people.  the design of the seat belt latches is a flawed one. the seat belts overlap which is a safety concern not to mention a human body cannot fit in the space they allotted.   this car is advertised for seven people but only can seat six. i have seven people in my family including a baby in a car seat and we all can't go in the car together at the same time because of it. i reached out to the dealership as soon as we got the car home and they told me to go to ford. the person i talkled to told me no need to talk to the owner or bother her.  they would not help me because they said it is a design issue not anything they can repair. i reached out to ford who said the same thing. i continued to reach out to the dealership who had service reach out to ford to see if they can change the seat belts in the car but due to safety issues they were told they cannot and again they said it is a design issue not a manufacturing issue therefore i should go to the bbb. in addition to hammonasset ford, i also went to hoffman ford in east hartford to show the sales manager the car. he was shocked about the design of this car. we looked at the same exact car without the safety package and the seat belts were not flawed. the sales manager at hoffman ford said he cant help me because i didn't buy the car there but if ford reached out to him he could help. i contacted the bbb but they declined my application due for the same reason saying it is not an manufacturing issue.

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 ford explorer. the contact attempted to accelerate to pass another vehicle and noticed an abnormal odor coming from the air conditioning vents. the odor smelled similar to burning fuel. the vehicle was taken to courtesy ford (located at 1107 brashear ave, morgan city, la 70380, (985) 492-7260) where it was diagnosed that the odor emitted from the coating on the exhaust system. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact stated that a smoke test was also performed on the vehicle. a repair was made inside the driver's side wheel well. the contact test drove two separate 2018 ford explorers and experienced the same odor. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 40. the vin was not available.

My 2016 explorer has 74,000 miles and the rpm needle is sticking. had it evaluated and found transmission neutral out on a 2/3 shift and a 4/5 shift. fluid level is correct, this is due to excessive clearance in the direct clutch. the ford dealership recommend overhaul or replacement. replacement is on back order and would take several months to get. i called the ford customer service and got a case #cas15675568. have reached out to the dealer ship and they are discussing and it has now been 48 hrs. what is difficult about making a decision and contacting me. i'm inclined to believe that there are a lot of 2016 with this same issue because of the back order. it should probably be a recall issue?

Tl* the contact owned a 2018 ford explorer. while the contact was stopped at a traffic light, she was informed by a passing motorist that her vehicle was on fire. the contact was able to exit the vehicle safely before it became engulfed in flames. the fire department was notified and extinguished the fire. a fire report was not filed. the vehicle was destroyed and towed. state farm auto insurance completed a fire assessment and stated that the fire was caused by a failure with the brake lines. hines park ford inc (located at 56558 pontiac trail, new hudson, mi 48165, (888) 482-7660) and the manufacturer were notified. the approximate failure mileage was 982.

I traded in my 2014 ford explorer because they could not fix the exhaust smell entering the cabin when excellerating or climbing hills. it causes carbon monoxide to enter the cabin which can make you sick or lightheaded . this occurs when the interior vent button is used the circulate the air in the cabin. well my 2028 still has the same problem. there was a lawsuit in florida over this issue. apparently it is a design flaw in all the late model explorers. it happens every time. sometimes it is very heavy.

Very strong exhaust odor fills cabin when ac system is on and on re circulate. i have had 4 explores of this generation. the xlt 3.5 ltr v6 engine is really bad. the eco boost 3.5 v6 does not seem to have it as bad but you can still notice it from time to time. this new 2018 i have is awful. it’s alwas present anytime you accelerate above 2500 rpm for a few seconds, such as entering a highway or driving up hill. it’s nauseating. ford dealership says it completed a recall for a similar issue which did not fix this problem. i think this needs to be elevated. it was so bad today while driving home from my drill weekend that i had to periodically roll my window down to air out the cabin. it is also noticeable at cruzing speeds on the highway at 60mph. after my 70 minute drive home, i could literally tase it and feel it in my lungs. i’m going to call the dealership and bring it to their attention... again.

Front sound screen windshield seems very soft and weak. slightest strike from road debris causes chip or crack. debris strikes regardless of amount of impact has caused chipping, cracks, and visible scrapes of material. windshield is sound screen and seems made of extremely soft materials making vulnerable to easy damage which is safety risk to driver and occupants while driving regardless of on highway or city street.

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 ford explorer. while driving at an unknown speed, there was a sulfur odor coming through the air vents in the vehicle. the failure caused the contact to become nauseous and dizzy. the contact was concerned for her safety. winner ford (250 haddonfield-berlin rd, cherry hill, nj, (856) 428-4000) diagnosed that the sulfur odor was coming from the exhaust and the catalytic converter. the dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was operating normally. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened a case. the failure mileage was 3,500.

Toxic smell - immediately after taking delivery on a new 2018 ford explorer limited, i became quite ill due to the toxic smell in the cabin. the smell is not an exhaust smell. it's basically a smell from the carpeting or seats, or a combination of both. headache, sore throat, fuzziness of the eyes and just a sick feeling every time i get in it. i've tried to keep the windows down, the panaramic moon roof open as much as possible but the smell is so profound. i feel the it will take some time to get rid of the smell or it will never go away. this is a beautiful vehicle, well engineered with a general overall feeling of safety during it's performance. what good is the vehicle however, if i can't drive it without becoming sick. i'm unsure of the best course of action at this point.

While driving normally acceleration will begin to reduce continuely until the vehicle stops altogether. no warning lights or anything. this happened on the expressway each time. the vehicle is one month old. dealership can’t find a problem.

We were traveling on i-10 in our rental car..going about 75 miles per hour in texas when the drivers side front windshield moulding flew off the windshield hitting the window and continuing to fly over the car. we swerved because we thought it was a bird strike or something came off a truck. we took the next exit and stopped to find the molding gone. at the next place we got gas we noticed that the passenger side was also ready to fly off so we took it off before it could come off.

When accelerating, the smell of exhaust fills the car. when you press the gas all you can smell is exhaust. it’s been this way from day one. ford tried to fix it under recall but it did absolutely nothing. you can still smell it just the same. no difference after their attempt to fix it.

As soon as we drove our brand new ford explorer off the lot it had a terrible shake, we thought it was flat spots from the car sitting at the dealer. however the shake got increasingly worse the closer we got to home to the point where we had to remove our drink from the cup holder because they were shaking so bad. within a week we had back at the dealer to try and solve the issue without any luck. we have car at the dealer ship trying to get fixed 4 times. they have balanced the tires 3 times and changed the drive shaft once. unfortunately its still not fixed. we have documents showing what the dealer had done to attempt to solve the issue but seeing how its not worked i dont see the point in uploading the documents unless specificly asked to.

Total transmission failure for no known reason with less than 3000 miles and 4 months old. cannot be fixed, must be replaced.

I have been smelling exhaust fumes/rotten egg smell in my car when accelerating up to 60mph. 1st time in shop they said bolts were missing on engine and some were loose.; they “fixed” it. still smelled exhaust fumes/rotten eggs, so took car back. they said fuel got in the fuel filter but they “fixed” the problem. no still smell exhaust/rotten eggs. took back for 3rd time they had my car for a month and they replaced the whole exhaust. now have had car a week and a half and i smell the exhaust. i don’t know what to do, i have this brand new car costing me $37000.

I smell sulfur or rotten egg smell in the cabin after hard acceleration with a/c on and ventilation closed on the dash board. i bought the suv with 39,000 miles 2018 from russel westbrook hyundai dealer in garden grove ca. i took it 2x at ford caruso long beach ca. 1st time they gave the explorer back to me the same day, stating they could not duplicate the smell or issue that i was complaining about. after few days, i brought it back to ford caruso and left it there for 4 days while i was monitoring the mileage using ford pass to find out if they test and test drive the suv. they kept the suv for 4 days and every day the mechanic does not have any report to say about the explorer. i talked to the supervisor of service department and told her that i have noticed that the suv did not move from the delaership for testing, then i noticed they've finally drove it for 6 miles on the 4th day. on the 4th day i ended up taking the suv home because they could not duplicate the smell coming inside the cabin. supervisor asked me to take the suv back when it smells toxic again inside the cabin. i am planning to bring it on monday and leave it there until they fix the issue. my whole family have been dealing with cough and cold for more than 1 month now, i had a feeling it was related to the fume coming from the exhaust. ford called me and said the vehicle is not qualified for buyback prog from ford. i will stop using this suv starting tomorrow sunday 2/17/19 to save our health. i was told by ford service agent that the recall have been resolved and that 2018 models were already corrected. please help me resolve this issue before my family develop serious illness.

My wife and i leased a 2018 ford explorer platinum last saturday. we wanted to upgrade to the latest technology. i failed to ask specifically if the adaptive cruise went to zero mph for stop and go traffic. the window sticker said it had "adaptive cruise control". i have had two cars with adaptive cruise and they have both worked down to zero mph. during our first drive using the so-called "adaptive cruise", we were following a car on the freeway going 70mph. rather suddenly, that car slowed. our ford was slowing down beautifully; you could feel and see the effects of the automatic braking. then, suddenly and without noticable warning to us, the braking quit and our car was coasting towards the car in front. we narrowly missed a low speed rear-end collision. i would call this cruise control a "partial" adaptive cruise control. i really feel this aspect of the adaptive cruise should be more prominent in all of the literature as well as on the window sticker.. i cannot imagine what would have happened had the deceleration been extremely fast from 70mph and our cruise control disengaged and the braking suddenly quit! this is very dangerous when you are used to a car that will continue braking all the way to a stop. i do considerable rush hour driving and am in stop and go traffic constantly. other car manufacturers are able to build cars with a cruise that goes down to zero. why not ford? i would even hope that a software/firmware update could make my car cruise go down to zero. that would be such a great safety update to offer customers. i believe standards should require zero mph capability from adaptive cruise controls and would hope ford could be made to fix this rather dangerous device. any manufacturer using such a partial adaptive cruise system should be made to note that prominently on the window sticker and in the literature.

On 2, 2018 ford explorer basic model vehicles, the front passenger airbag indicator has come on and then gone off and stayed off with my 14 year old 118 lb, 5' 9" child in the front seat. first incident: march 23, 2018. in the first vehicle the journey was approximately 30 minutes on a 4 lane road. no turning or braking affected the condition. second incident: april 4, 2018. in the second vehicle, vin [xxx], on a hour and thirty minute journey, on i-75 between naples, fl and ft. myers, fl, my child sat in the front passenger seat and the airbag indicator showed the airbag was "on". on the return ride, with sitting in the same position, the airbag indicator showed the airbag was "off". both incidents occurred while straight line driving, no braking or turning affected the incident. we brought both vehicles back to the dealership from which we leased them and showed them the accompanying picture. they told us that it could be that my child is too light for the seat sensor, but they were not positive. the head of the service dept and his lead technician witnessed the airbag indicator in the "off" position with my child sitting in the seat. they said they have never seen this before. they advised they contacted ford with the first vehicle vin and were doing the same with this second vehicle as well. i feel this is a significant safety issue as there is no certainty, should we get into a vehicle crash and need the front passenger airbag to deploy, that the airbag will actually deploy given the circumstances. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

During startup on cold mornings (not always) i have received multiple failure warnings. when this happens the vehicle has no power steering, turn signals, or windshield wipers. the warnings are: 4wd off, check parking aid, see manual, service advancetrac, steering assist fault, abs light, airbag light, parking brake light is on even though parking brake is not on. also the climate control still sees the temperature as the last temperature from the previous drive. so if it was 80 out and now 40, the a/c blows cold air even though it is cold out. this happened twice, once at 749.3 miles (3/12/2018) and the second time at 1440 miles (4/2/2018). first time dealer did not find the problem. the dealer has had the vehicle for over a week and still can not locate the problem.

Crack on windshield by body at top, no scratch above on paint, stratch started small and is growing

Every time i start my car and turn on the air conditioner it smells like sulfur in the cabin of the car. it is so scary to think that carbon monoxide might be sleeping in the car and be life threatening to my self and my kids and wife. the reason i bought the this car is to be safe, not to potentially be killed! i’m so disappointed and wish i knew this problem before i became stuck with this disaster.

Full accessory power active, next vehicle shut off to save energy this happen first time on december 23,2017 on december 24, 2017 had to have it jump, on december 25, 2017 would not start at all, december 26, 2017 towed to classic ford the stated battery was bad replace it until february 14, 2018 the same stated again on february 15, 2018 three times i got the same message on the third one a wrench came on the screen the dealer classic ford has had with no resolve in site i contacted ford customer service a case no cas-14137401 have a complaint made a representative name annette call me twice letting me know that ford has no replacement or exchange policy being that the dealer does not know what’s wrong they should cancel the lease and lease me another vehicle in good faith the first time i had it jump start i was leaving church, the 26th was towed from my home, in february the first time leaving the fitness center, same day in driveway, last in parking lot from there to dealer.

The integrated blind spot mirror on both the driver side and passenger side is mounted at the wrong angle. it does not show the blind spot of the car. you can not see any portion of low profile cars in the blind spot mirror and you can not see the headlights of most vehicles at night. it does show the very top of taller cars (suvs/trucks/vans). i have photos taken while driving of cars that are in the blind spot. as you can see in the photos, you can see only the very top of the van and almost none of the standard car. at night, the roof of the car is not as helpful to see as the headlights. i checked another 2018 explorer at the dealership and it had the same view in the blind spot mirror. the ford service technician agreed that the view on the 2018 explorer was different from the view on his personal 2016 ford fusion. however, since all of the 2018 explorers had the same view, it could not be fixed. older models appear to have blind spot mirrors that are correctly positioned. 2014 ford explorer, 2015 ford transit, and 2016 ford fusion all had correctly positioned blind spot mirrors. i came very close to side swiping a car at night on the highway on the day i purchased the explorer. as i was relying on the blind spot mirrors and no portion of the car could be seen. thankfully, a horn saved us both.

The car intermittently wreaks of gas fumes (not carbon monoxide) on the inside of the care. this primarily happens between 1/4 to to a full gas tank. the smell always occurs after a gas fill up. the gas tank is never overfilled. it also happens when taking a sharp turn after a stop sign/light, and when braking swiftly. living in a northern climate, the gas smell gets to be so bad, that windows need to periodically be opened in order to vent the vehicle of gas smell. this does not go over well when it is zero outside. with over 3500 miles on the vehicle, the gas smell seems to be occurring more frequently. it started to smell on day 1 of possession of the vehicle with the first gas fill up.now, the whole garage smells of gas when the vehicle is parked for a short amount of time (2 hours). when starting the vehicle on a cold morning parked outside, with all blowers running full, the interior of the car will wreak of gas after 5 minutes. i have an appointment with a ford dealership this week. they supposedly know of the problem. it does appear to be different from the carbon monoxide problem as this is gas fume smells.

When turning leaving a shopping center on a main road at ~30 mph, heard loud pop sound and car immediately stopped moving. car would not move and needed to be towed. upon inspection the lower control arm broke next to ball joint. car currently has little over 2000 miles.the police did respond to the incident to assist in guiding traffic and securing a tow truck. currently the vehicle is at the dealer waiting further assessment. it appears the control arm has a weak point in the structure. in reviewing internet post the arm appears to break in the same place from early and late model years of the new body style explorer. the car was never taken off main roads, and there is no other damage to wheel (shown in photo). i have major concerns this appears to be a issue with explorer models and if on a highway would cause possible loss of life. we are lucky that the car was not going faster and in traffic when this event happed.

Inquiring about nhtsa id 10144949. ford has known about this since aug 2018 (ssm 47499) and no one at my dealership, or ford customer service, is interested in making any calls on my behalf to see when ford expects this to be fixed.

Exhaust fumes entering the vehicle. ford engineer inspected and found 3ppm entering cabin in less than an hour. ford states this is normal. over 3 hours in the car causes physical illness, ford denying any responsibility. vehicle in motion on highway over 40mph. ford engineering report will be available to me within the next 48 hours. caused physical illness, dizziness and vomiting.

My explore has failed to start on 4 different occasions. the dealer service department sent a tow to get the car, and the driver got it to start after several attempts, then he shut if off and it failed to start again. the service manager told me he couldn't get the issue to occur so there wasn't anything for him to do even though he had a fault code. my explore only has lest than 9000 miles and is still under warranty but yet they are telling me there isn't anything they can done after keeping my car for 3 weeks. there should be things that should be replaced with the fault code, but yet nothing was done. has anyone else experienced this type of issue? if so, what was done to resolve this issue.

It a new car that i bought to avoid the same problem in a 2016 ford explorer, because ford never solved the issue, and this one ford explorer 2018 has the same things, a bad smell in side the car when accelerated. ford is putting our lives in jeopardy, i wonder if they already have an effective solution to this problem

Purchased my explorer on may 28, 2018, vehicle currently has less than 6,000 miles on it and this morning, my daughter used the remote to unlock the doors as it sat parked on our driveway, climbed in and closed the front passenger door and the back window shattered. glass was inside, outside and then pieces continued to fall. the bottom of the window has small chunks out of it on the edges as well.

Exhaust fumes entering the cabin under anything more than light acceleration. less than 3000miles on the car. used to haul our kids around. i thought it was unusual and then i discovered the long history of this problem with no recall. this needs to be addressed. this is unsafe. making an appointment with the dealership. judging by the response from ford , we are not optimistic this will be fixed. unsafe to drive these cars in this condition. anytime fumes enter the cabin it is unsafe, regardless of ford's position. never had this happen in any other car.

Exhaust fumes are entering the cabin during acceleration and when the ac is on. several family members have complained about the smell within the cabin. i personally have experienced headaches and burning eyes because of the issue. it smells like burnt hair. this is a family vehicle used to transport my entire family including my 5 month old baby. this smell is making everyone nauseous.

Purchased 2018 ford explorer xlt w/ auto nation ford corpus christi, texas may 29, 2018. june 20, 2018 i noticed the passenger side floor board was completely drenched w/ h2o. this was during the time we had heavy rainfall. my vehicle was parked at work, no flooding in the area, no windows left down.the h2o was only on the passenger side floor board & under the passenger seat. june 21, 2018-dropped vehicle off at service department. service department claims they checked everywhere. can't identify water leak. in 2015 the ford motor co. orders: stop selling some 2015 ford edge crossovers for this exact reason. technician are not able to identify the leak even after a "water test". 2015 ford edge: problem involved water seeping through a joint in the front pillar, behind the hood hinges. service director is involved. informs me they cant find the leak. i advised him to run the vehicle through the car wash. according to consumer reports, engineers discovered that running the ford edge through a car wash led to sopping wet floors on the drivers side. service director informs me he did see water leaking in when they ran in through the car wash. they think they found the defect. vehicle: in body shop & collaborate with ford to place a sealant. they think the problem is resolved. service director calls, 7/9/2018:still leaking! 2018 ford explorer has been in service depart for 21 days. 2015 ford edge technicians who didn't find evidence of a leak were instructed to install a urethane sealer in a-pillar seams. 2015 vehicles that didn't have signs of water inside were held for a 3 day assessment to allow time for further inspection, letting the sealant dry & confirm problem had been fixed. if the vehicle is still leaking after a 3-day assessment, ford may have to buy it back. 21 days in service & still can't find defect! https://youtu.be/qwc1i_ufgr8

Bought this car brand new and for about the first 2 months it was great. then it started to smell like rotten eggs or sulfur in the cabin of the car when i begin to accelerate. usually between 50-75 it can get pretty bad. doesn’t do it every time but when it does it stays in the cabin for several mins and have to roll the windows down to get the smell out. i am 8&1/2 months pregnant and have a 6 yr old that is always with me. this is not funny or cool. i have made numerous complaints to my dealership about this issue and have taken it to them 2 times and they say they can’t fix it bc they don’t smell it for one and the other there is no recall on it. my daughter and i both have had headaches bc of thins crap. what is it gonna take to get my car fixed?? a car that is costing me 40,000 dollars. is someone gonna have to die bc of this before ford pulls then heads out of their butts and fix this.... the first guy that looked at it told me to turn the recirculate button off on my ac..!! ok??? the second guy that road with us said to buy a carbon monoxide tester and test it ourselves. i’m like come on ppl it’s a brand new car. just fix the dang thing. this is ridiculous. i do not want another ford product bc they seem to not care about me my unborn baby my daughter husbad or the car for that matter
