The dashboard has become sticky, it has numerous very long cracks, almost like it is splitting. I lightly ran my finger nail on it and the material just came off onto my finger nail. It also creates a glare in the front windshield coming off the dashboard somehow. I’ve always used one of the things that keeps the sun off it but it has only gotten worse.

My dashboard is helping. Nissan has known their dashboards in these models are defective but sold them anyways and now refuse to do anything about it. I believe there should be a nationwide recall.

CVT transmission started to shut down causing complete loss of power and acceleration while driving.

Took it to a Nissan dealership and they told me I needed a new transmission. I didn\\\'t have the money at the time to get it fixed. We still have problems of it overheating and loss of power.

The car would slow down after driving on the freeway for any extended amount of time, usually over an hour, All of a sudden the car will stop accelerating and slow down to a crawl and the car will not speed up again until you pull over and let it cool down for awhile. This was very scary when I had two children with me in the back of my car, and I could not accelerate in the middle of a busy freeway. Also costs me time. As long as I don\'t drive any long distances, the car seems okay, but this has occurred at least four more times. This is a very dangerous situation. Upon talking with repair service tech\'s, and looking up things online about what my car troubles are, I found tons and I mean tons of articles, blogs, BBB complaints, etc. about the CVT transmission problems on NIssan Altima\'s. Many people have contacted you and Nissan about this problem, so I know you are certainly aware of the seriousness and danger of this situation. I am looking for some compensation or help in this matter. This letter will be forwarded to the BBB, Lemon Law Attorney\'s, as well as other affiliates within the Nissan Corporation. I will also be sure to never purchase another Nissan again, and tell others of my situation. I would appreciate an email or letter concerning this situation. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am truly disappointed that so many people\'s lives are put in danger because of this costly mistake. TRANSMISSION WENT OUT AT 151,000 MILES. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND MY CAR SLOWED ALL THE WAY DOWN TO 20 MPH. VERY DANGEROUS!!!! SAME THING HAPPENED TO MY PREVIOUS CAR 2010 NISSAN VERSA. SOMETHING IS SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSIONS.

Transmission needs to be replaced after 74000. This is an ongoing problem with Nissan transmission and they have taken no responsibility and charge full price for the repair. No compensation for selling cars with defective transmission.

I have a 2012 Nissan 2.5L Altima with recent extended warranty that just expired. (Of course). I have been dealing with the car and its hesitation and chugging issues since October 2015. I brought car into the dealership and on three separate occasions concerned about the performance of the vehicle. First time in shop I was told that the scope showed no warning codes and recommendation was to complete the 100,000 mile maintenance of flushing transmission and spark plug replacement, which was done and car seems to ruin ok… for a few days. Then same issues. We took a trip to Colorado from MInnesota and the problem with hesitation and chugging with automatic gear shifting. I took the car back in and again in December with technician now driving the car was told nothing was showing up. Car continued to get worse with now no acceleration, so I took it in a week ago when the car was showing alot more signs of something wrong, and technician drove with me in the car and stated to service manager that he didn\'t experience anything that indicated an issue. The next day, of course on a Saturday, the car would not go over 5 miles an hour and created almost a massive accident on local city street. I immediately took it in to the dealership and was finally given the news (which I knew all the time) that codes where indicating a transmission failure and unfortunately was in need of a new transmission! Cost $3,900 and some change!!!

That\'s when I started researching and saw this problem dated back to 2008 with Nissan products. Nissan did settle on a class action suit by providing car owners an extended warranty, yet knowingly, they continued to manufacture cars with the same transmission! I am outraged that dealers continue to sell these cars and blatantly look purchasers in the face and lie about this product\'s performance. I feel that Nissan should be replacing these faulty transmissions in all models that are complained about due to them continuing placing these transmissions in their models.

I bought my car last year and on my way to Las Vegas Nevada not having the car 3 days about a hundred and seventy eight miles from Las Vegas I lost power in my car I had my family I was scared because we was out in the middle of nowhere the car felt like the transmission overheated and did not want to go July 17th 2015 I was on my way to Reno Nevada through California and as I climb the hill I heard a very loud winding sound my car would not go over 40 miles per hour going up a hill again I was scared I had my family with me. I barely got home and called Stockton Nissan where I took the vehicle and right away I was notified that I had a transmission failure after reading several stories online and we all have in the same situation what are transmissions in our cars I’m very concerned now this should not be happening after I spent so much money on this car

I brake with my left foot for improved reaction time, as I was trained to do at Chrysler. In order to drive this vehicle with size 12 shoes, I must twist both legs to the right, in a 2 o’clock position. The brake pedal lacks an extension to the left like most cars. It is far too narrow for feet of my size. I consider this entire arrangement is hazardous. My foot has slid off the brake pedal a few times because it is on an angle. I suspect Nissan did not change the Japanese pedal sizes and locations for American sized feet.

I am not sure what is wrong with the car but i know that it is an unsafe vehicle. The car shakes violently and the steering wheel locked up on me while i was driving. The car would not shut off and would not allow me to take control of it. It was literally driving itself. I asked Nissan to take it back because it is an unsafe vehicle they refuse claiming its nothing wrong with the vehicle.

I just found out that there were 4 safety recalls (performed 0)on our car according to kbb and for our safety purposed,it needs to be repaired and we just bought this in used car company last 09/09/2019.and please let us know if the car manufacturer will be responsible for the recall or we (owner).thank you in advanced

Three hours into my drive, i was going about 70 mph and noticed my car started to slow down and was making a noise. i pulled over, got out, checked my power steering fluid. it was fine so i drove off and as i was entering the freeway, i noticed the car wasn't picking up speed again. i drove to the next exit and got off. i literally coasted to a parking lot of an industrial building. after several attempts at trying to leave the parking lot, i noticed i couldn't go up the hill. i waited about 30 minutes, picked up speed and made it up the hill and onto a 2 lane road. i drove to a hotel about 4 miles away, going about 40 mph. i realized that as long as i didn't stop, i would be fine. the next morning i found a mechanic shop, called and drove there with minimal problems. he told me the year, make and model of my car had been having issues with the cvt transmission. he hooked a machine up and it gave him these codes: p0746, p0826, p1778 step motor, p0868. he told me to check for recalls. i was able to drive the car 3 hours back to my house in woodbridge.

I only have 96,000 miles on my vehicle and i can't accelerate. i was on the highway when this happened. it picks and chooses when it wants to accelerate and i almost caused an accident on the highway and on the inner roads. this is not safe and nissan refuses to take responsibility

In mid-may 2021, noticed that the altima (at 105,000 mls) had little power when accelerating. at one point, pulled out from from a stop at an intersection and basically "crawled" through. barley made it up to the top of our driveway. "check engine" light came on. not safe to accelerate in traffic. local aamco, and local nissan dealer, both diagnosed transmission failure. have learned that apparently nissan knew of this problem.

Transmission lost power (reduced power) after 65000 miles. initially i was not aware of the nissan 2012 altima having transmission issues. now the repair rather replacement cost is about $5000 as per estimats iave approached local nissan dealerships and national customer service hot line and there has bee zero help from them. 2012 is know to have cvt transmission and its related performance and repair issues. still that year, 2012 , nissan is not covered under warranty beyond 60k nor there is help for customers who purchased this vehicle

Pressure sensor in passenger seat connected to passenger side air bag became defective, affecting (shutting off) the entire air bag system. started off with 'passenger air bag off' sign being illuminated at all times, even when an adult was sitting in the passenger seat. then airbag warning light on the dashboard started flashing the entire time car was running. because the passenger seat airbag is off. the safety of passenger put at risk. talked to nissan dealers at hayward ca today (08-10-2021). they said that the has no recall and warranty is expired. that means i have to pay for the airbag repairs which i don't think is fair for consumers. air bags is a safety issue, they should take care of it right away with no cost before something happens. i did reset the airbag warning on the dashboard twice, but it came back on day after.

We had a near fatal accident on the highway because the car suddenly lost speed drastically and later on a few incidents won't move up on the slope. my daughter had a hard time reaching home but somehow managed. a quick online research showed many people sharing similar issues due to faulty transmission and sensors. it seems that nissan is simply hiding behind its 60,000 mile warranty and not addressing and fixing this issue for the consumers and thereby putting lives at risk.

3 times car has decelerated when driving on interstate for 1 to 2 hours. last time speed dropped to 20 mph when most cars were doing 70 to 80 mph. this creates a very dangerous situation that could result in loss of life if not corrected. nissan refuses to address the matter and problem is well documented on the internet and lawsuits. nissan should have issued a recall covering the defective cvt. my college age grandson is driving the car as he has no other option but he is putting his life and friends at risk each time he goes on an extended trip. nissan should at minimum replace the transmission as a safety issue but have denied our claim. your help would be greatly appreciated.

While driving the car stopped accelerating. thankfully this happened on a 2 lane road while no other vehicles were around and there was a driveway to pull into. my husband and child were also in the car when this happened. no warning lights/noises alarmed before this happened. we had to have the car towed home. it will turn on but will not drive. this car is notorious for transmission issues. now we have a car that we can't drive but still owe way more than it's worth to fix. we are unable to trade/sale either. it has been very frustrating situation. we will never own another nissan.

While driving at 70mph on interstate the hood flew open with no known explanation as to why as hood had not been opened by anyone in the last 120 days prior to incident. this caused hood to snap back, strike and smash windshield and significantly dent roof of car in front of moonroof.

The airbag light that is under the dash board always turns on all of a sudden i am concerned the airbags might open or their migght be something wrong and god forbid in a accident they dont open also the suspention has always had issues

I live in texas and the heat is causing the dashboard to melt. this is not a cosmetic issue, the glare from the dashboard makes it very hard to see when driving and is serious safety concern. also the melting may be problematic if the airbags need to deploy because the integrity of the dashboard is compromised. i am attach thing letters from the center for auto safety which are exactly describing the scenario.

Cvt transmission jerking, can’t accelerate. the vehicle has been inspected by multiple mechanics my vehicle stopped accelerating in the highway while everyone was going 80 mph mine dropped to 60 causing almost a collision also my car had turned off because of the jerking was so bad there is no check engine light on at all

Had transmission fluid changed now starts bit doesn't go in gear took it to shop and was told i need a new transmission don't understand why new fluid would cause this and have heard nissan has had numerous problems with cat transmission

Car got stuck in a high gear on the interstate. speed reduced dramatically and went below minimum speed limit (40mph). no warning lights illuminated. my vehicle has had this issue twice within the last 6 years. took my car to the dealership where i bought it but they said that they didn't have anybody that could check a cvt.

Car dash has become a hazard to driving safely. the dash originally, when purchased new from the dealer, had a pebbled matt finish similar to a football or basketball. in the past year that finish is dissolved into a slick sticky highly reflective state. this reflective state causes the driver to be visually impaired and unable to see out of the front window; this is extremely hazardous. further research of this event with my vehicle has found it not to be unique to my vehicle. this is a very common and very dangerous. this is a defect of design only and as such needs to be addressed by nissan corporate.

Our vehicle has been in no collisions or anything and has been well taken care of. out of nowhere about 3 years our airbag light came on indicating that it will not deploy. we tried to get nissan to fix it due to hearing of recalls in the past but they said our vehicle was not included. they then said they had to try one thing at a time and the first thing was replacing the seat for $1400 and if that didn't work they will continue down a list of 10 possible things. so basically the vehicle is a deathtrap and we are not sure how it even became that. seems like it has to be an electrical issue or the issue mentioned in the recall.

I have a 2012 nissan altima. four years ago i drove from sacramento, ca, to reno, nv, with two friends in my car. as i was driving over the summit on highway 80 my car started to lose power. this was extremely scary as the highway is only two lanes and since it was a saturday there was a lot of traffic. i was driving in the slow lane and as my car continued to lose power and slow there was noplace to get off the road. i pulled onto the narrow sholder between the slow lane and the concrete barrier and my car came to a complete stop. since there were cars whizzing by i was not able to open either the drivers side door or the passenger side door, which was inches away from the concrete divider. at this point i was shaking uncontrollably and in a panic i called nissan of sacramento to tell them what happened. the technician suggested that my transmission may have over-heated. he suggested that i wait for the transmission to cool and see if i was able to then make it to the nearest freeway offramp, which i did. after exiting the freeway we waited for an hour or so and were then able to proceed to reno, nv. once there, i took my car to a mechanic who checked the other systems and could find nothing wrong. once back home in sacramento i took my car to nissan of sacramento and was then informed that my transmission had burned and would need to be replaced. they contacted nissan and were informed that there were no recalls and that i would need to pay for a new transmission out of pocket and the cost would exceed $4,700. after contacting nissan myself, they informed me that they would not cover the cost of a new transmission. since i am a retired, single senior citizen living on a fixed income, i have not been able to replace the transmission and subsequently have not driven more than 20 miles from my home. i have read that cvt transmission problems are very common with nissan altimas. why would they deny my claim when this is such a serious safety issue?

The dashboard is melting. it is now to the point where it peels up if any item is placed on it and then removed. there is a wet oily substance forming in places all over the dash. it is incredibly sticky all over. i placed my cell phone on the dash while i was driving. i had to apply force to get it off of my dash. that resulted in the vehicle going in to the lane adjacent when the steering wheel was jerked during removal of the phone. it potentially could have been a serious crash. the phone pulled part of the vinyl dash off as well. i have checked recalls for nissan and the dash is not among them. i noted a very slight stickiness on the dash when i purchased the altima used in 2017 after hurricane harvey. it has progressively become worse until i am now in the situation i have reported. as a side note, i had previously owned a 2006 toyota solera it had the same problem with the dash. toyota did issue a recall on the dash. i had it replaced by the dealership without incident.

On a road trip car stopped accelerating above 60. caused us a long time sitting on the side of the road when car cooled we started up and went again. took it into the shop and replaced the fuel pump. then one week later on a trip to idaho car is doing the same thing over the milan pass. acceleration does not work at high speeds even with a new fuel pump. seems to make an airy fan sound like an air valve is wide open. think it is a dangerous sensor issue. ug. help.

Car had a hard impact, not on the front end but flipped multiple times, air bags and side air bags did not deploy

After making right turn onto very busy 4 lane road with cars traveling 55 mph, the car failed to accelerate and had no power. car acted as though it was in neutral. fortunately, the road was downhill at this point and after turning on emergency blinking lights was able to coast about 3/4 mile to next street and turn right. i was almost rear ended three times during this coasting period at about 15 mph. on this part of the highway there was no place to pull over as the curb was next to the right hand lane. had the car towed to a nissan dealer the next day and was told that the transmission had "totally disintegrated" and was "unrepairable." cost $4800 to repair. was told that this was a "common occurrence" with the 2008-2014 cvt nissan transmissions. nissan has recalled many cvt transmissions but not 2012. service manager also said that we were "lucky that disintegrated the way it did as some cars locked up in geared and immediately stopped." there was no prior warning of a transmission problem. no lights, no noise, no nothing. there was no way to know a problem or potential failure was imminent. this car is a danger. had this occurred on a freeway in los angeles where we were driving just prior to this failure, it could have caused a major injury accident. this transmission should be recalled. the car had 97,000 miles. nissan should be required to recall and reimburse owners who have suffered this failure in 2012 altima transmissions.

2012 altima defective sticky melting dashboard cause severe windshield glare when driving when sun from a certain angle ( no vehicle accident so far)

Vehicle when in drive or reverse would barely move and almost got stranded in traffic. finally will not move at all

Transmission spudders at times. it is very delayed when pulling out sometimes. turning the car off and back on might help sometimes. car will go in limp mode. nissan dealer said it was the transmission. there is a big safety concern because when you push the gas trying to cross an intersection, it might lag behind and not go. this could result in being hit. this has been a great car but the cat is complete junk and nissan should be ashamed of themselves for this. if they get enough law suits they may change something. well maybe, they don't care about peoples lives.

Hi i’m having trouble with my transmission in my car due to a safety feature that nissan has installed on there cvt transmissions. after driving for 1 1/2 to 2 hour trips my car does not accelerate or will have a slow time gaining speed. nissan has a high fluid temperature protection mode that basically when the transmission temp gets too high the computer cuts you off completely and intentionally stops you from going any faster. this is a serious issues if your in traffic or driving somewhere on the highway and not able to move to the side of the roadway or to a median. if my car was to completely stop in the middle of the road due to this safety feature, it could cause collisions and life threatening injuries.

The airbag warning light started flashing in late november or early december 2022. i took the car to my mechanic on dec. 5, 2022 who ran a diagnostic which identified the need to replace the sensor in the front passenger seat. the sensor is so integrated into the seat that the entire seat (not the back) must be replaced. i was then told that nissan has stopped making the seat because the car is over 10 years old and a replacement is unavailable nationwide and will not become available. i called a nissan dealer to confirm that the part is unavailable and they confirmed it. as a result, it is unsafe for a person to sit in the passenger seat. it seems wrong that nissan can stop making such an essential part and devalue someone's life or the vehicle itself in this way. it also seems to me that i cannot sell the car in this condition and it only has about 76,000 miles on it. the vehicle is available for inspection should someone wish to do so.

What component or system failed or malfunction and is it available for inspection upon request. the cvt failsafe high fluid temperature protection mode enacted while i was driving on the highway at speeds of 65 to 70 mph going with the flow of traffic it is not available for inspection upon request because this issue only occurs while you're driving down the highway. how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? my safety and the safety of my passengers and the safety of my fellow commuters was put in jeopardy due to negligence of the manufacturer of the 2012 nissan altima when this occurs all acceleration ceases your foot can be all the way to the floor on the gas pedal and your car will not accelerate and in the fast lane on the highway when this happened i became a sitting duck in the flow of traffic cars are flying by me and my passengers and i can't get enough speed to change lanes and get out of danger due to a failsafe that nissan put in these cars on purpose they were fully aware of these issues this is a direct quote from the 2012 nissan altima owners manual page 5-17 warning when the high fluid temperature protection mode or fail safe operation occurs vehicle speed may be gradually reduced the reduced speed may be lower than traffic which could increase the chance of a collision be especially careful when driving if necessary pull to the side of the road to a safe place and allow the transmission to return to normal operation or have it reparative necessary. has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. unknown. has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer police insurance representatives or others. unknown. where there any warning lamps messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure and when did they first appear. zero warning lamps no messages just all of the sudden no acceleration and i am in a very dangerous situation which could have cost many people their lives

Have a '12 sr coupe. car keeps turning over for 5-10 seconds before starting. the alternator checked fine, but the battery voltage was a little low. i bought a brand new battery and that seemed to fix the problem....... for an hour. new battery is at the correct voltage, and alternator came back fine again. even nissan themselves have bo idea what's wrong. i've never seen this complaint anywhere, but i assume not that many people own the coupes. i even had an 09 se coupe that never did this.

When i barely accelerate my car it does a very aggressive bucking motion along with loud noise. i have done put over $3k in vehicle! nissan fix your shit!

Driving back from wichita today my hood kept popping open. i had to pull off the interstate and close it.

I just recently financed my car i haven’t even had it 1 month and every time i drive it for more than 1 hour the transmission fills like it’s going out on me on the freeway i can’t seem to get it to go over 40 miles an hour and it makes sun weird noise and idles high i can also feel it when i drive i can fill it slipping it jerks it only has 117000 miles on it i did mention it to the dealership and he said it wasn’t the transmission it was something else i know it’s the transmission i just wanted to know if it was a recall or anyone else had this issue i have not had it inspected being it hasn’t even been a month yet

I have a 2012 nissan altima that i purchased in 2018. in florida. check engine light appeared first. it currently doesn't run because of the transmission. it doesnt excelerate above 20mph. is there is a nationwide recall because of the cvt transmissions going bad?. i already tried to fix 2 separate parts on the transmission the code i'm getting is p1778. i changed the stepper motor and valve body and it's still won't go above 20mph. i don't have 5,000 to replace a transmission. we've been stuck on the road twice in traffic when it doesn't want to excelerate above 20mph

Service engine soon light on. was driving on highway at 55mph transmission started to slip and car started to slow down while i was pressing gas pedal. the more i pressed on gas pedal the more the car lost acceleration. had to move off to side of the road and turn car off. took to mechanic and had transmission flushed and plate replaced. transmission needs to be replaced. ran diagnostic and codes for transmission comes up.

I have owned this vehicle for over ten years and now there is paint delamination on the hood and roof of the vehicle which is a manufacture defect.

I only have 96,000 miles on my vehicle and i can’t accelerate. i was on the highway when this happened. it picks and chooses when it wants to accelerate and i almost caused an accident on the highway and on the inner roads. this is not safe and nissan refuses to take responsibility

Three hours into my drive, i was going about 70 mph and noticed my car started to slow down and was making a noise. i pulled over, got out, checked my power steering fluid. it was fine so i drove off and as i was entering the freeway, i noticed the car wasn't picking up speed again. i drove to the next exit and got off. i literally coasted to a parking lot of an industrial building. after several attempts at trying to leave the parking lot, i noticed i couldn't go up the hill. i waited about 30 minutes, picked up speed and made it up the hill and onto a 2 lane road. i drove to a hotel about 4 miles away, going about 40 mph. i realized that as long as i didn't stop, i would be fine. the next morning i found a mechanic shop, called and drove there with minimal problems. he told me the year, make and model of my car had been having issues with the cvt transmission. he hooked a machine up and it gave him these codes: p0746, p0826, p1778 step motor, p0868. he told me to check for recalls. i was able to drive the car 3 hours back to my house in woodbridge.

The lights on dim are so dim you can't see the road. you have to put on bights to see the road.

The car started slowing down in the freeway and it lost power while i was in the carpool so i drove carefully to the emergency lanes on the side risking getting hit by a car cause it didn’t have any power or shifting. i though the transmission went bad. i turn off the car for five minutes and started it again and i try to move the car again and it went well. after couple days or weeks i don’t recall i call the dealer requesting a recall on my vehicle which they ask me how many miles it had i told them 83,000 miles and they told me i don’t qualify to get the transmission replace cause it has over 80,000 miles already. it seems that nissan makes faulty cvt transmission manufactured by jatco. i wanted to know if i qualify for the recall for the transmission. when i reset the car on the freeway for five minutes it ran and hasn’t happened again but it’s super sluggish. the car should have a recall no matter the mileage. forgot to mention they said i don’t qualify also cause the car is salvage and it voids every recall whatsoever.

I just found out that there were 4 safety recalls (performed 0)on our car according to kbb and for our safety purposed,it needs to be repaired and we just bought this in used car company last 09/09/2019.and please let us know if the car manufacturer will be responsible for the recall or we (owner).thank you in advanced

When i was driving my nissan altima 2012 car on i-635 in dallas at 2 pm cst at around 65 mph speed, i heard huge explosion sound on top of my head. i turned on the hazard light and slowed down the car and pulled over to a shoulder and checked the car. sunroof glass was exploded and i have seen a 4 inch diameter hole and scatter glass pieces; rest of the glass was also broken/cracked. there was no vehicle at the time the incident occurred and it was not due to the external forces, it was due to internal pressure between the glass and visor. i was so scared when the glass exploded but luckily escaped from the bodily injuries. the sunroof glass on the nissan altima 2012 is for sure defective product. please investigate and save the lives of the drivers. i'm not expecting any financial compensation from nissan or anybody. i don't want this to happen to anybody please investigate and save drivers. *tr

All three passenger door lock actuators are failing. the problem occurs when the vehicle is stationary, with the engine and accessories off. when i activate the lock with the button on the outside of the driver's door, one or more doors sometimes fail to lock or unlock. the problem seems to happen more often in cold weather. the problem may happen less often when i use the remote fob to lock/unlock the doors. if the car thinks it is locked, and i open an unlocked passenger door, the alarm activates. this makes it very inconvenient for me to manually check that all of my doors are locked. if my car does not lock, my personal effects are at risk of theft. as a safety concern, if my car is not secured, i am at greater risk of being car-jacked.

After driving vehicle for 1 hour or more, vehicle goes into fail-safe mode, meaning the rpms will not go over 2500. so, if one is on the highway going 70 mph, then arrives at a hill, then the vehicle speed could decrease to 40 mph. according to mechanic, this is a known issue and nissan has a service kit for this exact issue. i am not sure why it is not a recall...

Transmission stopped working. car stopped moving.

1st incident: driving on hwy 5 in ca on a hot day at freeway speed car suddenly lost power and dropped below 30 mph. pulled off of hwy and shut vehicle off for about 30 minutes and no longer experienced this issue. 2nd incident: driving on interstate 80 in ca in 95-100 degree weather. got off freeway and car lost power again this time not going over 5 mph. took vehicle to nissan dealer for diagnostics. they said they could not replicate problem when driving but "mileage in" was the same as "mileage out" which tells me they didn't drive very far if at all. they put it on diagnostic machine and got a code saying "cvt a at 4" and "cvt b at 7" cvt has been overheated. recommend replace valve body and install external cooler for concern. i've read many complaints about same issue with nissan cvt transmission.

Enigine/transmission issues on our way out of town, not 45 minutes into our trip and without warning the car goes from 65 miles to less. the car will not accelerate. with a two lane highway and trucks behind us. i am very concerned of getting stranded in the desert, killed or severely injured. this is not the first time. it's occurred numerous times. our dealer peoria nissan in az said, they could not find anything wrong even after we insisted. something's wrong, i swear it's a faulty transmission issue.

After i have been driving my car for 45 min on the freeway going around 70-85 mph the car loses power and almost feels like it is going to stall. once i was off the freeway at the intersection when i accelerated my car would barely move. this seems like a huge safety issue. i have heard of others almost being rear ended because of this same issue. they say its due to the transmission overheating and going into safe mode in hot temperatures. my vehicle was doing this when it was 65 degrees outside. i think since this seems to be a common problem and with the safety being a concern nissan should do something about it.

In warm weather, car consistently goes into limp mode. it will only achieve speeds of around 30mph even though rpms are accelerating. i have to stop the car and wait for 20 minutes in order to drive it again. doesn't seem to happen when outdoor temperatures are cooler. this has been happening for several months and is apparently a well-documented issue with other nissan altima owners.

I have 78k miles and my car is loosing power when i am driving. looses power after sitting at a light, while driving the car bucks as if its getting stuck in it's gears and when i get up to a certain speed the car makes a squealing noise.

My vehicle is 5 years old and i have had to replace the radiator and now the transmission. there are over 700 complaints of this same issue with the nhtsa and consumer affairs. i have taken my vehicle into the dealer twice for this issue and this ongoing issue is going to hurt or even kill someone. nissan is fully aware of the cvt issues and this needs to be resolved. this recently happened this past weekend (2nd time now). we traveled maybe 35 miles, when the transmission started to whine just before we reached the exit, i was unable to accelerate. no lights, no warnings, nothing stating there was an issue. my car had to be towed to a local auto shop, where they stated they could not address the problem as it is most likely the transmission. it was then, again towed to the dealer. ken garff nissan. where i was told that my 5 year old car needs a new transmission! a year to date i had to replace my radiator, water pump, serpentine belt ect! this is not okay and not acceptable. should i have had my daughter in the car and lost acceleration on the freeway, i cant event fathom. this issue transmission defect has substantially impaired the use, market value and most of all the safety of the vehicle. my family is worth more than this defective vehicle. the dealership has been more than helpful and they agreed a 5 year old car should not be having all these issues. i am asking that nissan do the right thing and fix this problem and care about the consumer. i truly want to believe that nissan cares about their consumers and i really hope that they review this complaint and act upon it, doing the right thing and recall these engines. i was blown away by how many nissan owners experienced the same issue and filed complaints with the bbb, carguru, nissan and consumer affairs. please, have this looked into. i know nissan is fully aware and this needs to be corrected.

Pooo18 crankshaft/camshaft sensor engine dies loss of brakes and steering thank god coming up to house slowing to park, city street. restart engine sounds like running on 3 cylinders. turned off start again, pull code and erase. it runs like nothing ever happened. called nissan and they told me that since i erased the code they can do nothing. google 2012 altima engine stall and prepare to spend the rest of your afternoon reading stories

The transmission went out after 65k miles. i took it to the dealership and because the warranty is only up to 60k they would not help me or warrant any repairs. because of dealer cost i was able to rebuild it at a different repair shop for $4000.00. the mechanic told me that this was caused by a leak in the radiator, the coolant leaked into the transmission fluid causing damge to the transmission. it seems that nissan had a recall on models up to to 2010 and also gave extended warranties. however the 2012 is not on this reacall. i feel that the problem still exist and a recall for my model should take place. my cost was 4000 dollars, it just doesnt seem fair. no transmission shuld go out before 100k. this is my daughters vehicle and it quit functioning in traffic in the middle of the road where she could have been in an accident. this is a huge problem that the dealership should own up to.

At 1500-1800 rpms there is a vibration coming from the front end of my car. i took the car to my mechanic who informed me that my call was under recall for a throttle body issue and i should take it to nissan. nissan claimed that they could only repair my vehicle if the vin# is in the system, which it wasn't. however, i am experiencing the same throttle body issues as all other nissan altima's made during the same timeframe.

Whining up hill and no drive down hill, when heated up transmission will not go until cooled off

Driving down fl. i75 did not have power to pass another vehicle. push the gas pedal several tines no power. no warning lights on dash. after sever miles safely got off i75. found out cvt over heated and shut engine down. nissan waiting for some one to get killed. is that what nissan is waiting for? there is a fix for over heating cvts. is nhtsa going to sit on there butt or do something about it. this is an on going thing with nissan.

Vehicle lost power while driving 70 mph down highway. almost got rear ended by semi as i could not keep enough speed to stay ahead and get to side of road. when i searched web, found this to be a frequent occurrence on the 2012 cvt transmission.

When the car is at 75mph, it loses speen and the rpm goes up and it slows down when you stop the car and wait for an hour or more, it will go back to normal for a while it happens after and hour or long trips.

Just purchased this vehicle used and noticed on the test drive the passenger seat airbag light was lit up indicating it was off, even though someone was in the seat. brought it to their attention, 5 minutes later they brought it back claiming it needed reset due to a sensor having something to do with a carseat. the light wasn't on with a passenger so i assumed it was fine. now the light briefly illuminates at start up, but stays off regardless of whether or not someone is in the seat. i have seen about 20 other complaints on this issue and it is very unsafe, i now have zero faith that the airbag will even deploy. needs to be recalled!!

I was driving my car down the road heading to get something to eat. it was a sunday night, it just started misting rain. i drove on my usual curvy 2 lane paved highway and then proceed onto my usual 4 lane paved highway to mcdonald's where i got food inside and then upon leaving decided to go through drive through for another item. i left and headed approximately 3 miles back on the same road i traveled to town on. as i was on the 2 lane ithe all of a sudden appeared to be raining heavier and i could tell by the rain crossing over my headlights. something different than normal caught my eye, it looked like orange rain, i assumed just the appearance from one of the bulbs. unsure though, i continued driving but scooted to the edge of my seat and set up tall to getta better look, at that time i seen flames. the car was on fire, i couldn't pull off side of road as it has no ditches just ravines so i slowed down and tried unlocking my door to open it wouldn't and my window wouldn't roll down, terrified i proceeded to call 911 and inform them my car was on fire and i was in it driving down the road and was hoping to get to next road i knew i could pull off. the entire time never did anything warning lights or gauges come on nor did the temperature rise. i finally was able to exist the car fully engulfed in flames. the police department and fire department finally arrived. theyou got it put out but it was complete loss. i have no idea as to why this fire happened i took well care of my car, maintaining it regularly as recommended and always cautiously driving it. i have another nissan altima that's still running strong with 300,000.00 miles on it, so this should show i care for my vehicles above what's recommended.

I just recently replaced the battery in my 2012 nissan altima and now i am having the following problems: gauge cluster is not working at all (engine temp, rpm, speedometer, gas). everything else is working fine. i had all the fuses checked and all are working properly. i took to dealer, they are saying replace instrument cluster, program and retest for bcm failure(2 concerns-inst cluster no comm, power and ground present, u1000 and can system diag failed cluster can not get mileage) retest for bcm failure after install cluster is replaced (2nd concern is car is hard to turn on and off need to replace cluster and retest for possible bcm failure. my car was fine 1 week ago and passed the state safety inspection on 03/25/2017 at a certified inspection place. i have proof of all those copies it is truly manufacture ( nissan ) problem with kind of vehicle manufacturing practice. i would never buy another nissan in my life.

Accelerator pedal came off mount while driving, no bolts holding pedal in place. i had to bend down to adjust pedal while driving on the interstate to get safety off the road. i am not aware of any notification of a recall to the defect. i took my car to the nissan dealership in huntsville to have the car inspected and repaired. the service department found no bolts on the pedal assembly. i was charged $59.94 for the service and repair. on a related note...ironically i took care of a patient in the er last week who was in an accident involving their nissan 2006 vehicle. while turning into their driveway, the accelerator stuck and the car jetted forward and ran into their tree. their child, sitting in the backseat, restrained, struck her head on the side window and suffered a laceration to her temple region that required suturing. i gave the patient's mother this website to follow up with her complaint.

While driving on a highway at 75mph, my car just stopped going. i decelerated very quickly. i was pressing gas pedal to the floor and car would not increase speed. it just would not go. the rpms went over 3,000. no check engine light came on. i didn't even have any warning in the days leading up to this event that this would happen. there were a lot of vehicles on road at that particular time and a truck happened to be driving behind me. the truck and other vehicles were all swerving on either side of me to get out of my lane and as a result, i could not get my vehicle off of the road until they all passed. as i kept coasting along waiting for opportunity to pull over to side of road, i kept pressing gas pedal. eventually that worked and i began to pick up speed again, but my car was accelerating very slowly. i drove to exit and got off of highway. i waited about an hour before returning home same way. on drive home accelerating was slow and rpms were erractic. there was also a whining noise when i gave car gas. this happened once more. i no longer drive car on highway so i haven't experienced it stopping while driving, but it still whines, accelerates slowly, and rpms are erratic. vehicle has been parked at service department at dealership. my car only has 108,000 miles on it. i've never missed any scheduled maintenance which dealership performed majority of it. the warranty was only covered up to 60,000 miles. now i'm told that at 108,000 miles, i need a new tcc, valve body, and solenoids.

I was traveling from alabama to atlanta georgia on interstate i-20. as i travel about a hour and a half into the trip the car begin to decline in speed. i was traveling about 80-85 mph and had to move over from the left lane to get in the right lane in order to exit off, it decline down to about 40 mph. as i pushed on the accelerator, it did nothing. it wouldn't go past 40mph. it continued so i pulled the car off on the next exit. after about 20 minutes of letting the car set and i begin to start the trip back the car was fine. so on my way back to alabama it did it again. when i returned back from the trip that sunday i went to my local nissan dealer that monday morning and was told that it was the transmission. it would cost me $5000 for a new one or $3500 for a used one. as i look at these complaints, this is a nissan problem. why should i have to come out of pocket for something that is going on with my car and as i see others. nissan needs to put a recall on this for it is a problem!!!

I have had the issues of losing power while driving my altima at a speed of 60 mph for longer than an hour i would lose all power . i would be driving on the highway moving with traffic at a speed of 75 -80 mph and then all of a sudden with no warning lights my car will start to lose power and drop all the way to 40 mph . now i am trying to go from the fast lane over two other lanes while losing power . i am lucky that i haven't been rear ended at this point . i have been complaining about this issue to nissan since i purchased the car in 2012 i have brought it into nissan on oct 2013 , may 2015 and june 2016 that i have receipts for . in 2013 and 2015 i was told by nissan there was nothing wrong with my car then in june 2016 i was told i needed a new transmission . i received a quote of $2304.72 and 10 hours of labor in june 2016 now aug 29 2016 i am being told that it will be over $3500 for a new transmission . there is a service bulletin out dated nov 25 2015 for this exact issue i am having my transmission has finally gone and i think it is just wrong that i have to pay for something that nissan knows is built poorly .this is a safety issue and nissan needs to fix it before someone does get seriously hurt

My 2012 nissan altima drove home fine when i got in the car the next morning the car would not start. had it towed to nissan after looking on you tube where there were many complaints and a way to rig it. i got there and they said the car brain was fried. the eoc the computer. this car is 4 years old and it cost $1380 dollars to fix! my 14 year old car computer holds better than that! why is this thing not a recall?

8/12/16 i was driving from schaumburg il. to la crosse wi with my daughter in my car and my son following behind. drive is approx 3 hrs & 50 mins. the weather outside high 80's & humid. an hour into my trip on 90west in stop and go traffic on the expressway due to construction. went to accelerate from a complete stop the car would only go to 20 mph with my foot to the floor & it took some time. the rpms didnt move, the car didnt rev, there were no warning lights, no lights dimming on the interior & the temperature gauge was just where it should be. i thought it was just a fluke. when approaching the wi dells 2 hours into my trip & an hour & a half remaining, i was in the "fast lane" of traffic doing about 80 mph, i went to accelerate more i noticed the same thing was happening. only now my speed was rapidly decreasing. i moved over & got off on the nearest exit still attempting to accelerate, i pulled into a gas station. hesitant on shutting the car off not knowing what was happening. called my brother & described the event i had experienced. advised to shut it down thinking maybe the system just needed a reset. waited 20 mins & advised my son that we would stay in the "slow" lane. car started right up & went the hour & 30 mins with no problem. car sat at the hotel we were staying at all night. morning of the 13th did short trips, got lunch & attend a meeting near campus. car was just as it always has been. 4 pm cst i got on 90e to head home. the same 3hr 50 min 248 mile trip. outside mid 80's not as humid as the day before. 1 hr & 30 min from my home doing 80/85 mph, now in various construction areas that do not provide a shoulder, my car starts to lose acceleration while i am trying to accelerate. i’m in the "fast" lane & noone would move over.let it sit 10 minutes drove the last hour & a half, no problems.

On july 18, 2016, while parked at work on the side of a road, the right front passenger window shattered. the police determined it was not caused by anything hitting it. the window that shattered was facing a yard, not the street, so no projectile object hit it. the police thought it might be the heat (in the 80's, but in ny, and we had it for 18 months in nc where it's a lot hotter, with no incident). then on august 20, 2016 the car was parked at a grocery store parking lot. when my son came out of the grocery store, there was a 14 inch crack in the windshield that was not there when he went into the store. no evidence of any projectile hitting the glass. the car is 3 years old and 35,000 miles. temp outside: 85degrees. no reason why these windows (2 in 1 month) should be shattering spontaneously by themselves. no rocks or other projectiles involved. both times the car was parked next to other cars, and nothing happened to the other cars.

Im driving down the freeway taking the curve downtown dallas & my car stalls o power available. i cannot steer to coast, nor put can ion emergency flashers. where it dies it sits. this is a major safety issue and nissan cannot figure out why. i have only had car for 2 months. very disappointed and scared.

My vehicle would not go forward when pressing on the gas pedal. it would not go past 40 mph on the expressway. after 20 minutes in traffic is when the check service engine came on. i had it diagnosed at a transmission shop and the code reflected the cvt transmission. i have an appointment with a nissan dealership to check out the diagnosis...will update documents later.

Driving at highway speeds car engine suddenly revved to approx. 5000 rpm. pulled over and upon accelerating again the car would drive but the engine revved very high and the cvt wouldn't change gear ratios ("shift") as it normally does. realized car would accelerate and not rev as high if i accelerated extremely slowly. car however is extremely dangerous to drive at this point. also couldn't drive above 55 mph without the engine revving very high approaching redline. after approx 5 more miles of driving the "service engine" light came on and i scanned the code. showing code p1778 which appears to be a stepper motor problem with the cvt. called dealer and sounds like they don't fix cvt, just replace for between $4000-$5000. very disappointed nissan hasn't resolved these problems yet and that they treat a $5000 part as a replacement item and not one that can be fixed.

Since new, battery goes dead if not driven for a few days. after a week vacation, battery dead. parked in garage for a week, battery dead. paid dealer $120 for complete check up - found nothing.

Driving vehicle at time of transmission failure. have a 2012 nissan 2.5l altima with recent extended warranty that just expired. (of course). i have been dealing with the car and its hesitation and chugging issues since october 2015. i brought car into the dealership and on three separate occasions concerned about the performance of the vehicle. first time in shop i was told that the scope showed no warning codes and recommendation was to complete the 100,000 mile maintenance of flushing transmission and spark plug replacement, which was done and car seems to ruin ok... for a few days. then same issues. we took a trip to colorado from minnesota and the problem with hesitation and chugging with automatic gear shifting. i took the car back in and again in december with technician now driving the car was told nothing was showing up. car continued to get worse with now no acceleration, so i took it in a week ago when the car was showing alot more signs of something wrong, and technician drove with me in the car and stated to service manager that he didn't experience anything that indicated an issue. the next day, of course on a saturday, the car would not go over 5 miles an hour and created almost a massive accident on local city street. i immediately took it in to the dealership and was finally given the news (which i knew all the time) that codes where indicating a transmission failure and unfortunately was in need of a new transmission! cost $3,900 and some change!!! that's when i started researching and saw this problem dated back to 2008 with nissan products. nissan did settle on a class action suit by providing car owners an extended warranty, yet knowingly, they continued to manufacture cars with the same transmission! i am outraged that dealers continue to sell these cars.

My issue concerns the extremely bright headlights (especially aftermarket halogen) that are allowed to be installed on cars and worse on suv's and pick-up trucks. these lights are blinding in normal highway night travel, especially when opposing drivers use them at the high beam level. it is worse when a car driver is opposed by a suv or a pick-up truck whose lights are mounted about one foot higher than the ones mounted on a typical car. my wife's accident when she entered the left turn lane of a highway with a single lane in each direction with a dedicated left turn lane at the intersection. as my wife's car sat in the left turn lane, it was directly opposite a suv or pick-up truck with extremely bright lights that blinds you from seeing anything beyond the plane of the headlights. when the traffic signal turned green, the opposing vehicle would not move. my wife eventually decided to ease slowly out. still unable to see, se was eventually into the intersection where she was hit by a car in the through lane. these halogen lights are not necessary for most driving. the height differential of headlights between cars and suv's is about one foot and is dangerous. it also very bad on country roads with no centerlines or no edge lines. if you encounter a vehicle on this type of a country road and the road ahead curves - look out - you have a good chance of running off the road. another thing that makes this issue worse is older drivers who have had cataract surgery. this increases the intensity of the lights. in the interest of traffic safety, all vehicle headlights on passenger cars, suv's and pick-up trucks should have the same height. and the brightness of the lights should have a maximum value. i know that the automotive industry will prevent this issue from becoming reality. but it is a needed change. thanks for any help you can give. *tr

Pressure sensor in passenger seat connected to passenger side air bag became defective, affecting (shutting off) the entire air bag system. started off with “passenger air bag off” sign being illuminated at all times, even when an adult was sitting in the passenger seat. then airbag warning light on the dashboard started flashing the entire time car was running.

Now i know...as in almost all nissan altima's that have the cvt transmission fails. no prewarning from the vehicle and especially nissan corporation or dealership. my transmission has failed. it is apparently a horrible unjust serious problem the nissan people are not addressing or trying any at all to help. they just keep sticking it to the ignorant public customers who thought they could trust nissan. yeah thats me.

My vehicle is only 8 years old and recently the airbag light began to flash on the dashboard , which is the sign of a problem with the vehicle. i took my vehicle to the dealership (elk grove nissan, california) and paid to figure out the problem. after performing the diagnostics, i was told that the airbag system was faulty and that it would cost me $1500 to repair. my question to them was: " why should i pay for the repair if the airbag is faulty?" i also said that if the airbag is faulty, it should be recalled. they informed me that there was nothing they could do because there was no recall on my vehicle. i have since checked the service and maintenance guide for my vehicle and there is nowhere in the booklet that states that the airbag is a maintenance item for the owner. the airbag is a safety item and should be recalled and repaired by the manufacturer jf it is faulty as is with my vehicle. what is frightening is that the red light is still flashing on the dashboard and i have no idea what might happen if i continue to drive this vehicle. the airbag is faulty and should be recalled and repaired asap before something very serious happens. since august 2020, i have traded phone calls, emails and letters with nissan to no avail. i am therefore appealing to you to kindly intervene to resolve this problem. please find attached, copies of communication with nissan for your information and review.

The dash on my 2012 altima has begun to melt. the dash initially started out being tacky when my son was away at college in nc, which i thought was unusual. upon returning to fl this past summer, it got worse. now the dash is giving off a chemical smell with a horrible glare. the glare from the windshield is making for unsafe driving conditions, especially in the fl sun. nissan acknowledged the melting dash issue in 2008 2009 models and agreed to replace those dashes for vehicles in fl under a lawsuit settled in 2017. looking at the complaints on the nhtsa website, it appears that the melting dash issue has continued to be a problem past the 2008 2009 model years.

My 2012 nissan altima's sunroof is leaking, whether driving or parked. i have had the drains cleaned, the headliner removed and still have this issue. upon researching this problem it seems to be a problem on infiniti's and nissan's since 2003. this problem needs to be fixed by nissan, being it's an ongoing issue in all models. i have spent hundred's of dollars trying to have this corrected.

The airbag didn't deploy when my vehicle hit another vehicle on front passenger side on speed approximately 45mph.

The back doors of these cars are taking in water when it rains or when you go to car wash.. as you drive you could hear the water sloshing in the doors. you have to actually open the door and use your hands by picking the rubber at the bottom of the doors to let the water out. then it gushes out like an open faucet.

My 2012 nissan altima 2.5 sl cut off while i was driving yesterday. i was going about 15 mph and making a right turn when the car cut off in the middle of the turn. there were no warning lights before, during or after the incident. i was able to coast into the parking lot where i restarted the car. there was ¾ of a tank of gas in the car and all of the battery cables were secure. i had the battery and alternator checked and both were fine. there are 76,979 miles on the car. this was the first time this has ever happened, however, after doing some research i have learned this is a common problem with this vehicle. i have loved driving this car for the past few years, but now i am afraid this will continue to happen and could cause me to lose my life in a traffic accident. please advise me of your official recommendation as to how i should proceed.

Car automatically reduces speed from 65 mph to 35 mph while in motion on highway and will not increase speed when driving at an hour or better at 65 mph or greater. when it autodecelerates it makes a whining noise and will not accelerate again until you turn the engine off and allow the car to sit for 30 mins or better.

My 2012 nissan altima was bought at 40k miles. it ran good for was maintained. at 108k miles the transmission started acting up. it would not shift into 6th gear (cvt transmission) and would eventually lose power and not accelerate. i had it diagnosed and found out there was a recall on these transmission but they were only for the prior year models so there was nothing i can do. it is now at 120k miles and it hasn’t gotten so bad i can’t drive it on the highway. i took it to the dealership and had it completely diagnosed and they told me that it threw what they refer to as a “death code” and said it needed a new transmission. they told me that it’s a matter of time before the transmission completely dies. i’m a student and in the military so i stay very busy and my car not being reliable has put a stop to everything. a transmission going bad at 120k miles should not be a thing. i truly feel cheated by nissan with this car.

2012 nissan altima 2.5s sedan, purchased new plus extended warranty with 3 miles on it. at 64k miles while driving on the highway after about a. hour at normal speeds on a hot day the car started making a whining noise from the engine compartment. the vehicle became sluggish and the speed reduced to 60mph. the rpm gauge began to rise ant the car began to decrease it's speed eventually descending to 20 mph while the rpm gauge fluctuated from 2k to 5k rpm. the gas pedal was non responsive except for a louder whining noise as it was pressed . we pulled over for a while and the vehicle went to normal. this exact same issue happened 2 more times before we arrived home. the dealer responded stating a new transmission was needed but not covered they said my warranty was not valid. i complained, they contacted headquarters i guess and stated to me because the car was under 70k miles the company would pay partial for the repair but my out of pocket expenses would have been about 1200. not only did i think this was unfair but i also didn't have an extra 1200 lyng around. so unfortunately i've been dealing with this issue for years car drives fine for about 40 min. so no long commutes.

Ongoing issue where vehicle loses power when driving further distances (30-40 miles) or uphill in the mountains and is unable to accelerate. driver is forced to pull over on the side of the highway and wait until vehicle can cool down and gain power again. this is an issue with the cvt transmission. nissan should have issued a recall for these transmissions or extended the warranty as it is an extremely unsafe situation.

Srs supplemental airbag light began flashing when starting the car up. for while i put up with this, but i was concerned. i looked online and found numerous other people reporting similar problems. i eventually found a procedure to reset the warning and for a time this worked. i took my car to the local niissan dealer was told the front passenger seat occupancy sensor was faulty and that to fix it, the entire lower seat cushion would need to be replaced for approximately $2000 which i thought was outrageous. they also told me my entire airbag system would be inoperative until this sensor was fixed, which doesn't make sense to me. why would faulty passenger seat sensor disable all airbags. i think nissan should recall cars with these kinds problems and not stick customers with replacing $2000 seat cushions.

So i purchased my car in 2014 at tony nissan waipio and had cna manufactured warranty..which is a good warranty.but i come to realize ever since.my manufactured warranty expired in 2019, and i routinely bring my car in for oil and oil filter maintenance every 3 months, and each time i would bring it in. mechanics and service advisors seems to find a lot of problems with my car..and ask if i wanted it to be fixed or replaced, majority of the time. i will asked if my aul warranty will cover, for the parts and labors..i would say 80 percent of my warranty covers..some. dont.but to make my complaint shorter ..each time i would bring it in to tony nissan for a repair..not even 3 months after, another problems.come about..at this time i'm getting very scared and afraid for my safety in driving my car.especially.when i have my 6 year old grandson that i pick up from school..and i'm beginning to not have faith in them and i'm really having trust issues, with either the mechanics or service advisors..at tony nissan .i can show proofs of documents that i have all my invoices dated from 2014 until now of 2020..of all services and repairs they have claimed they doned on my car..just recently i asked for my old parts back, to see if they got it replaced..throttle body assembly and ignition coil #3..my upcoming repair will be alternator and drive belt..i will be taking my car in either 02/25/2020 or 02/26/2020..in the afternoon.thank you very much, for the help and concerns.please reply back to me if my car was sold to me as a lemon or any recalls..i've be glad to express my concerns to the president of that company..but i always get talked to the other staffs that works for him...

I was driving down the highway and my transmission started making a loud whining noise and revved up to about 6400 rpm’s and my car had no acceleration from that time on.. now i’m facing either paying $3400 for a new transmission or just trashing a perfectly well kept up car. i’ve always made sure to have my car completely serviced and maintained on time. after this i will never buy from nissan again. these cvt transmissions are horrible. nissan is looking after their profit instead of reliability. this is a 2012 altima with 125000 miles.

Traveling west on hwy 44 started having trouble going up hills. put pedal to the floor, and nothing extra. it was starving for fuel. turned around to go back home, eventually stopping in sullivan mo. while going back i had to gain speed going downhill in order to make it uphill. on two occasions i had a semi rider my rear bumper even though i was in the slow lane. one time while gaining sped down hill, i had to pass the semi in front of me, or lose the speed that i had gained, so i tried to pass on left, as usual, but then the acceleration stalled once again. i then had another semi riding in rear view mirror, and was fearful of what could happen. i was eventually passed by semi on right , i got over, and then the semi on the left passed. needless to say it was not a good situation. i have seen on-line that there is a class action suit against nissan, but no recall for the cvt's. in my opinion, this is a must. even the guy at nissan had told me that he has heard of many stories just like this. someone is going to get hurt/killed if nothing is done. nissan knows of problem, hence the cooling device started in 2013 model. even this did not fix the issue. please force nissan to correct their error in judgment before it is too late. oh, nissan does want to fix my issue, for several $$$'s thank you, a concerned driver. *tr

I have a 2012 nissan altima. i have already replaced the transmission once last year when the car had 80,000 miles on it. the transmission went when traveling on a long trip, after a hours when going approx 65 mph and trying the car failed to acccelerate. the car then would not go over 40 mph. this was a very dangerous situation asthere was a tractor trailer behind me, which forced him to slam on breaks. very dangerous and scarey situation for all involved. again this year while traveling for approx 2 hours the same thing happened. i had to pull off the road on the left had side to avoid an accident. i have read numerous other instances where the same thing has happened. someone is going to be killed or has already been. the 2nd time it happened at approx 99,000 miles. i have already contact nissan and am going to take car for a diagnostic, if i am able to get it there. i believe that other cars for other years have already been recalled due to a class action suit. i have been doing alot of research on this car and year and numerous others have had same complete. very dangerous and deadly accidents will occur if nothing done on nissan part. there is no warning that anything will happen. the lights in the car did not go on, and even after pulling over did not go on

I bought a certified pre-owned 2012 nissan altima 2.5s sedan from university nissan in universal city, ca. throughout its life from when i received car at around 45,000 miles, every couple thousand 5k-10k care engine engine could not accelerate quicker car would begin making engine whining noise. it was never disgnosed as a cvt problem when i would take car to nissan in warranty repair . during dealership repair enounter mass air flow sensor was replaced. "mass air flow sensor" that has been replaced multiples times throughout its life as well. car now has a cvt problem and struggles during hot weather and worst if people are in car now.

While in motion, the vehicle begins to drasticly slow down from speeds of 60 to 70 mph down to 20 to 30 mph. this usually happens during the day after driving for an hour + and in any kind of incline road. at hard inclines i can bearly drive upward even hhaving to come to a complete stop. the rpm gage begins to jump rapidly to 5 and 6 rpm when even slightly pressing the gas peddle, and once it adjust , the vehicle will not go more that 3 rpm while still at a mph slower than 30. this will stay for the remainder of the drive until i have stopped and turned my vehicle off for a significant amount of time. tbis began happening at 100,000 miles and now at 150,000 miles it happens very frequently. i feel this is unacceptable, and clearly very unsafe for driving long distances on large highways, when my vehicle should work as it should.

Vehicle was in motion on the highway and after two and half hours of driving could not accelerate past 45-50 miles an hour and stuck on this speed even with the gas pedal being pressed down to accelerate. i had serious safety issues with this on the highway in regards to ascending hills and had near serious encounters with trucks and other vehicles on all incidents i have had to drive more than that duration. i am on a website called cargurus and have a lot of nissan 2012 altima owners with the same year, make and model having exactly the same terrifying experience. i have called nissan about this and that they should do a qa of their call logs and check other complaints from other customers and all they could say is "there is currently no recall on your vin". informed them about medicine after death not possible and problems like this with frequent complaints by customers should be investigated and not ignored till people start dying before there is a need to fix this or issue a recall. the gear box and cv axle based on what i have read may be the cause of this. i am not a technician but this is a very serious safety issue that should be investigated. every time you are in a car on the highway on long distance journey with this car your life is on a live wire because of this gear box issue. i have also been to the dealership in south holland il for this and was told to call nissan and complain about this which i have done. i will appreciate your looking into this please! thanks.

With my 2012 nissan altima it is now becoming harder and harder to operate while driving. the dashboard is starting to melt and become sticky with the hot tx weather. since this has starting happening it’s becoming very reflective on the windshield and is causing a distraction and making it very hard to see while driving. this is a safety issue for anything that is in front of me.

Nissan altima 2012 s has a bug on the transmission. i have talked to a dealership lately about how i can maintain my transmission to avoid the problem he told me to change the fluid after 60k miles. which i did right away because i was the second owner. i'm supprise at 127k miles, my transmission broken down. and all mechanics i be been to tell me is a factory issue and nissan knows it. they said the cvt transmission mostly come to fail on that nissan after you pass the 100k miles. (factory issue with that cvt technology they said). i call nissan to submit the problem, but unfortunately they told they can't do nothing about it because of the high mileage. the bad transmission is very dangerous on the public road, i have been in the situation on the interstate highway where i couldn't pass the 18 wheeler and almost cause a crash because the transmission is not working properly.

2012 nissan altima cvt transmission issues. altima has recalled from 2007-2010 and then again after 2012 for the cvt transmissions. mine is doing the same things and nissan doesn't have a way for me to check the fluids. the dealership said they can fix the problem for over $7000. i'm in the dealership right now and he says again that he can't check the fluids but that i can replace it if i want but that it might make it worse. the vehicle sometimes doesn't shift and engine revs without acceleration at any speed. pulling into traffic is very difficult and if i am unable to pass if needed because sometimes it accelerates and sometimes it doesn't.

The power outlet in the center console had gone bad so my husband changed the fuse and as soon as i started to drive, my car started jumping and would not go over 15mph. the traction control light and check engine light had both come on. i turned the car off for about 30 seconds then cranked it again, the traction control light was off and the car drove fine. now at random times, usually if the car is left idling, the traction control light will come back on and the same thing happens but if i turn the car off for about 30 seconds then crank it again, the light is off and the car runs fine again. the mass air flow sensor was replaced in 2017 but that is the code we keep getting when it is hooked to a computer. the transmission was also replaced in 2017, no issues with it so far... no one seems to know what is going on with my car but it's pretty scary when i'm driving with my 3 kids and the car decides to lose power, jump all over the road and only drive 15mph. this happens at least 3 times a day and since this is my primary way of transportation, i would really like to know what is causing this issue so it can be fixed and i can safely transport my children again.

Hello to whom it may concern, i’m posting this complaint because of an issue this vehicle has and i’ve heard many others are having the same issue. about an hour or two of driving the car or going up a pretty steep hill on a hot day the car looses power completely and will have trouble to go over 45mph and what i’ve read up on this issue the vehicle come with a sensor that makes the car go into a safety mode when the transmission gets too hot and it’s due to the transmission not having a fluid cooler. i’ve had a couple close calls in the freeway where cars have came really close to rear ending me in the freeway with my children in the car and i fear for the safety of my as well as others and wouldn’t want anyone getting sued due to an issue nissan has with their vehicle

This was a used pre-certified car, purchased from the dealer in which did not have any issues until its warranty was practically no longer valid. the cars electrical system started to have issues. the issues with the electrical system started with the usb port connection to a cellular device. sometimes the car will recognize the phone, other times i have to disconnect the usb to phone connection, turn the usb cord around and reconnect a few times for the radio to recognize the phone. after this issues, one speaker went out. later on, a second speaker went out. i replaced both speakers to find out that it is possible the in-car amplifier blew. after this, the radio unit would at times go completely black, causing me to have to turn the car off and back on. after this, the driver side door no longer locks electronically, i have to lock and unlock driver side door manually but the passenger side does indeed work. after these issues, i noticed the check engine light had come on for a mass air flow sensor. i cleaned the sensor, and the engine light went away. about 300 miles later, it came back on and the car hesitates/bucks consistently with a loss of power once the speed hits about 60 mph. i-75 hills, i can no longer accelerate to maintain speeds. i replaced the maf sensor, check engine light is still on. i had it cleared from o'reilly's since the same code was appearing on the car. after 10 miles sitting in idle, the traction control sensor appeared. 10 miles afterwards this on i-75, the car will not climb hills, drops power, bucks and jerks the car forward and back. i stopped at a part store, turn the car off and back on. traction control sensor goes away, engine light comes back on with same code reading. i cleaned the throttle body, check engine light is still on. i've read a lot of articles about this, no one has figured out how to fix this.

When driving on the highway my vehicle will deaccelerate going from 70 miles to 45 miles, even though my pedal is flush to the floor. this happens sfter i have been driving for approximately 2 and 1/2 hours. i have had this checked out by auto repair and have not found a solution to this problem. when this first happened i was in the fast lane and was barely able to get over to the right shoulder. the second time i had my grandchildren with me and we were basically stranded on the side of the road 2 and a half hours from home with no way to get anywhere for help.

While driving on the highway for over an hour at speeds 60+ mph the transmission will begin to whine, while at the same time the rpms will skyrocket. the car will rapidly decelerate while this is happening. this has happened multiple times on road trips when the car was at 20k miles and continues to happen more often now that the car is nearing 100k miles.

I have a automatic 2012 nissan altima w. 130k miles. while driving, my car automatically shifted to neutral and in order for me to stop, i had to place my emergency brakes on. the gear was stuck in between neutral and reverse and unable to move. thought it was a shifter console, but turns out it was my transmission. in this model car, there is a class action law suit against nissan for failing cvt transmissions/engines. my failure happened while driving and could have caused a major accident. due to the miles, i am out of warranty and i do believe that nissan should be at fault seeing that there is a suit pending.

18hoz-1diag c check & diagnos (tech 561) complaint: service engine soon light is on also c/s they were driving on freeway in traffic while rpms were around low 1,ooo vehicle would buck from slow speeds trying to accelerate also when vehicle was on a hill at a stop vehicle would not accelerate and started rolling backwards once vehicle gained momentum vehicle started moving please check and advise. cause: verified customers concern. "service engine soon" light is illuminated. checked for dtcs and found multiple dtcs (dtc written on ro). cleared dtcs and none returned after test drive. vehicle did feel a bit sluggish on first test drive. checked fluid levels and found oil level a bit low. also noticed drives floor mat tucked under gas pedal. removed floor mat and test drove again. vehicles acceleration feels normal. went to steep hill to duplicate customers concern. could not verify customers concern. again, correction: replaced both cam position sensors as well as the crank position sensor. cleared all dtcs and test drove vehicle no dtcs returned. vehicle drives fine with no issues.

Transmission went out whining noise..would not go over 40 mph . rpms went up but no power .. had towed to dealer advised transmission was bad ..transmission shop advised would cost $ 3800 to repair and nissan transmissions were faulty has 150,000 miles ..

Oil cooler leak was detected during routine oil change. research showed this model & year has a recall already issued but there are no campaigns for this specific vin not sure if this is something you deal with or if it's a mfg issue. not sure what steps are to report to mfg if this is a known issue.

Airbag on passenger side indicates that it is off and warning light flashes on dashboard. have reset it several times but reset only lasts about 30 mins. 31200 miles on vehicle. was told it may be seat sensor and nearly $850 to replace.

Takata recall, i have a 2012 nissan altima and i purchased from a dealer in jan 2015. i believe this car must be a defective product. it's a pre-owned car. just after driving it for 1.5yrs, i have been driving the car the transmission broken. the speed drops to 30miles/hr from 65miles/hr while i was driving on the freeway. there were cars behind me. it's so dangerous. i was lucky that the driver behind me reacted very quickly and didn't hit me. it was under the warranty so they replaced the torque converter of the transmission. however, just this past weekend i was driving uphill on a mountain road and a similar problem happened again. my car can't shift correctly and the speed drops to 25 miles/hr from 40miels/hr. both the first time and the second time when this happens there is no signal lights on my dashboard. i went to the dealer but they said i'm out of the warranty and they may not cover the repair. i failed a claim to nissan customer service and still waiting for the response to solve this issue. they said there are no recalls of my car but i have found a lot of reports online about their transmission issues and people had experienced similar to me. also, the steering wheel didn't work for a few times. nissan said they care about customers' safety but i don't think they really do what they said. if they really care about our safety they should take more actions on this issue and recall the defective cars. it's very dangerous for everyone on the roads.

As i was starting to slow down in preparation of taking a turn off the frontage road my car completely shut off, my brakes and steering locked and luckily i was able to complete my turn into a gas station where i immediately put it in park and restarted via push start., 2 days later this occurred again on a fairly busy street where i repeated the steps to start it again. i am extremely scared to have this happen again on a heavily traveled street causing me to be involved in a collision , i have researched online and see other reports/complaints of the same issue i described yet do not see any recall issued regrading this extremely dangerous defect.

I purchased the 2012 nissan in 2015 with only 22,000 and something miles. once the car got to about 76,000 something miles a whining noise started. so now with the car at only 83,074 miles the transmission isn’t getting any power. so i turn to read reviews and talk to people only to find out the cvt’s aren’t worth anything and to get them replaced the price is ridiculous and i can’t afford it. but you would think with all the complaints about it nissan would do something about it. i would not tell anyone to purchase a nissan ever. also when the whining would take place the car was being driven on city streets or major highways

I am having the same problem with my 2012 nissan altima went to my mechanic and gave me a code of p1778, he told me nissan transmissions have a specific problem with their step motors and that nissan is supposed to fix them for free. i called nissan and they are refusing to fix it when they know their transmissions are not good because they’re a lot of people with this same problem. i was driving to work and my vehicle started slowing down it started losing speed that is when i took it to my mechanic, happen o the highway.

My dashboard appears to be melting and is sticky to the touch. i have contacted nissan they show no concern as to the dash board melting or any resolve to remedy the issue. it causes a bad glare especially when driving into the sunlight. i feel this is a manufacturer defect in materials.

While driving, either with the cruise control or without, the engine rpms will quickly bounce between high rpms and low rpms though the speed of the vehicle does not change at all. the engine is revving faster, but the transmission does not appear to be engaged. this happens frequently.

While driving, or wanting to drive after coming to a stop, the engine rpms will increase when the accelerator is pressed (up to red line), but the car transmission does not respond until, suddenly, the car lunges forward. this can happen from a cold start, at a traffic light, after a quick stop at a business while the vehicle is still warm, etc.

Flashing seat belt sign relating to the passenger side airbag keeps blinking and no one sits in the seat. will the airbag actually work if in a accident? why is there not a recall on this air bag sensor?

Cvt transmission was built poorly, the transmission is slowly destroying itself causing a loss of power, high pitched whining noise and eventually fail. the date i selected for when it happened is the date i noticed the issue on my vehicle.

My son's 2012 nissan altima has 99,500 miles. the cvt has been acting up multiple times this year. it has gone into the fail-safe mode at least four times on the highway, creating an unsafe and hazardous condition. we've taken the vehicle twice to the local nissan dealer and were told that the transmission had not emitted faults. this is issue should be addressed by the manufacturer. there's obviously an issue that is causing hazardous driving conditions.

The mph would register as 60 but i know it was only doing 20. going around curves it was acting like it want to go but dont go far. it will start but mph wont move, and wont move forward but will backup.

The traction(slip) symbol has been on for months causing my brakes to squeal regardless of being on the brakes. transmission has started kicking into lower gears while traveling on interstate speed.

Nhtsa team, i am filing this safety complaint regarding my daughters 2012 nissan altima. her vehicle has 94,000 miles on it, and the cvt is acting up. this year, the vehicle's cvt has gone into the fail-safe mode at least three (3) times while on interstate trips. each time it was during hot weather (she lives in south carolina) and caused her to run very slowly on the interstate. this created an unsafe and hazardous condition. the nissan dealer is sharing that the only solution is to install a transmission cooler. i think this is more of a manufacturing defect that is causing hazardous driving conditions. please let me know if nissan intends to correct this via a recall for the 2012 altima's cvt. thank you. All 4 of my door actuators are suddenly not working. this is safety hazard. nissan needs to look into this issue with a possible recall. all 4 should not go bad at once.

The driver seat doesnt stay in position. it sits low and doesnt stay lifted

When i was driving the cvt starts making noise, the rpm go up to 6,000 rpm then i loose engine power suddenly so the car speed stuck on 40 mph suddenly and decrease the speed even when i press the gas pedal, when i press the gas pedal it just makes noise and increase the rpm and the noise but the speed don't increase, so a car behind me crash tailgating my car, i'm now with seriously injuries, the nissan cvt is defective and dangerous, my car only has 96,000 miles.

My car started making a whining noise while driving it. going up the hill my car on a highway in the desert when the speed declined it’s from 70mph to 45mph, which i tried to accelerate and it was stuck on 45mph, and almost caused the car behind me to crash into me with my three young children in the back seat. a lot of complaints have been made and nothing’s has been done. what does it take a life to be taken in order for a recall. the transmissions on these cars are crap. every time someone walks into the dealership they seem to be well aware but no recall he been done.

I have a sticky, shiny, melted, reflective dashboard causing a problem with safely operating the vehicle because i cannot see out of the windshield due to the reflective glare. this is had a gradual onset and is gradually worsening. nissan took responsibility for this defect in 2007-2009 models but in my case nissan refuses to take responsibility for this defect in my car.

O hills and on warm days the car losses power and wont go over 60 mph this happened on the highway and almost cuased a wreck. this has happened several times. engine light came on and the code said it was low on fluid. it was checked and was good.

Cvt transmission has failed. 6 years old. less than 120,000 miles. stopped at redlight, could not pull out or reverse, car would only go 3-5mph. car engine runs fine.

When driving in warm weather for 1.5 hours or more cvt transmission loses power and makes a whining noise. this is a known issue regarding these transmissions and nissan extended warranty on vehicles up to 2010 because of it. transmission says it is overheating and puts itself into "safe mode" thereby losing all power and ability to accelerate on hills, etc. i was almost rear ended due to the sudden loss of power and acceleration.

Takata recall - the light on my air bags pops up randomly when i drive it. there could be nothing in the passenger seat and it will still light up. i have asked the service men at the nissan service in woodbridge, va to check this problem when i have taken it in for servicing but they said it was nothing. they will not fix it. i am a woman and i don't know these things until a "recall" is sent out. what should i do?

Driving home from work, turning onto the highway and car won't go above 20 mph and whines terribly.

I have had several wiper blades on my car since i bought it a few years ago. the left (driver's side) wiper blade has came off the wiper arm several times while driving. the outer part of the blade jumps across the windshield as it wipes. this only happens when wipers are in use.

My transmission went out and i took it to a mechanic and they said it is gonna cost 3,400 to fix it i would like to see if there has been a recall on the transmission i was coming home from work and and the transmission just stoped working bearely made it home

My vehicle when driving will not throttle correctly so i have to pull over on the road and turn the car off and than turn it back on. after turning the car back on i would rub the engine to make sure it would throttle pass 3. lately though my car has been turning off while driving which is a big safety for my self and other drivers. because i have to turn the car of and on quickly especially if im on the freeway.

Takata recall my 2012 altima has been having some shifting issues while i am driving. mind you this call has 58,000 miles on it (yes 2012 with 58,000). it is over the 5 year power train warranty but under the mileage. nissan does not care. there should be zero reasons why a car with less than 60,000 miles should be having any type of transmission issues. nissan needs to be held accountable.

Cvt transmission are not , not cars! there was a recall up to 2010, but they continued to make them with cvt! often when driving my car it lose all acceleration! i went to nissan and there was no issue on the diagnostic tool and they said that due to this being the main job of the cht, they said a cooling kit can be installed, which it was. 2 years later, my car again slips into neutral. my gear shift moves sometimes and other times, just no acceleration this has happened now over 10 times in 2 days!!!!!! because the issue is not showing on diagnostic, they will not look at the cars transmission, trans fluid, or the gear shift. they wouldn’t do a thing to my car! this is forcing me to drive with unsafe conditions! i am taking into a real and honest mechanic!! nissan knows there is an issue and that many drivers are driving dangerously, as they refuse to do the right thing!!! there is no dipstick to check the transmission fluid or else i would do it myself. do the right thing and save many people from getting into accidents and potentially losing their lives!!! coming off an off ramp, no acceleration; driving on a highway no acceleration, pulling out of my driveway after warming my car up non acceleration. this is dangerous and illegal!!!!! this issue began 2-3 years ago, was temporarily fixed wit the cooling kit that i had to pay for out of pocket, and has been happening consistently for the last 5 days!!!! google this issue and there are thousands of people with the same issue and nissan offering no help nor even a simple mechanic once over look!!!! i am a social worker who works with children in foster care, often tranporting them from unsafe conditions to situations that i am promising are more safe and comfortable! i can no longer promise them this if my car is unsafe!! i have almost been in a minimum of 5 accidents because of this issue! dealership no help!!

I have 135,000 miles on my 2012 nissan altima. and i started hearing a whining noise and asked the dealership to check it out about 2 months ago. they said that's just how the altima sounds. now i am having to replace a transmission that's going to cost me 4,000.00. i researched transmission issues on the internet and a lot of people are having the same issues. going up a hill the car would whine or when i try to accelerate. the car started to jerk upon pulling off and would not accelerate until i let off the brake then tried to accelerate again.

My transmission had to be replaced at 112,000miles in sept 2017. now today i find out that i may potentially have transmission issues again, date being (3/14/2018). codes are : bcm; transmissions fault 4; ipdm e/r fault 3. this is ridiculous, i will be taking it into fort worth nissan on saturday 3/17/2018 to determine if it is failing again, it being only 9,000 miles later.

Takata recall. i was traveling on the interstate, in heavy traffic, when my car began to slow it refused to maintain my speed or accelerate at all. i had to pull into the median to avoid being hit by an 18 wheeler. i had my sister and two of our little kids in the car with me. this is not the only time it has done this it has done it several times now and the mechanics can't find anything wrong. i have read several places where others have had this same issue.... i believe their is a manufacturer default with either the acceleration or transmission.... it just revs up sounds like it's doing something but not increasing speed. i have noticed that it occurs mostly after i have been traveling a while...like about an hour and a half or so

My nissan altima 2012 has significant reduction in speed while taking trips less than 40 miles. driving on fast lane on highway about 70 miles then all of a sudden it reduces all by itself to 35-40 mph and i almost got into in accident because i did to know what was going on but had to get off the onto the side of the highway.

The vehicle's doors stopped locking and unlocking properly. it has been found that all 4 door locks have the same issue, where they lock sometimes and at other times, they don't. the alarm system is doing strange things, also. by that, i mean there will be times when i press the door button and hear the double-beep, instead of the single-beep that would unlock the button. as i open the door, i expect the alarm to go off, as i assume the alarm system believes the door is now locked. however, the door will open, the alarm won't go off, then the warning beeps will sound as the door is closed, making the beeping warning sound associated with attempting to lock the vehicle with your keys still inside. this is clearly a factory issue for nissan, but it is a safety concern, as the lock is an added measure of security for kids and safety within a vehicle. if my wife would ever feel the need to hit the locks, for whatever reason she encounters, we can't know for sure they will operate properly.

Vehicle just lost all power while driving on a busy highway. no power at all, almost tail ended by another vehicle that swirled into emergency lane to avoid hitting me. unable to use hazard lights, as there was no power to the car. luckily i had a portable jumper and had to exit my car and stand in front of vehicle with hood up, unable to see traffic coming and very scared of getting hit because i had no hazard lights. vehicle finally started and would barely accelerate, i was able to make it to work. i live over an hour from work and now i’m scared to drive home on the interstate. there are numerous posts about this, i found while trying to find out what happened, several others have been in near miss accidents due to the exact same reason and have reported this but nissan is making no effort to find and fix the problem. i could have been hurt badly having this happen where it did and i am notifying whoever is necessary about this situation, because if something happens to me while driving my car and it’s related to this issue that nissan is aware of, my family will be suing along with many others i’m sure. i had no power, no steering, no control at all

Car stopped accelerating, found out the tranny was bad. nissan wont replace or compensate. nissan dealer expects me to pay 4000 out of pocket for a brand new transmission. car is only 6 years old. havent even paid the car off yet and transmission is already going bad. avoid nissan altimas at all costs

My air bag light isflashing, went to the dealership. they said nissan should have pay for the repair because the air bag should not give any problem unless the car involve in an accident. i decide to file a complaint, maybe there's other people who have the same problem with the 2012 nissan altima

One 2 separate occasions my vehicle has completely shut down without warning. the first time was while i was sitting a red, the second time i was actually driving through traffic and the car lost all power i without any warning. the first time it happened it took about a hour before the car would start again, luckily the second time it happened i was able to start the car within a few minutes. i have read a few stories and complaints on car gurus that other nissan owners are having the same issues with their vehicle. i truly feel unsafe in this vehicle and this matter needs to be looked into immediately before someone gets seriously injured. it is only a matter of time.

There is a cvt and cvt coolant issue in this make model and year and there was a recall for this vehicle of prior years with the same issue and nissan will not replace it. it makes the car sluggish and go very slow uphill. it is not a defective cvt but the cvt in the original model. we bought this car used so we may have gone to try to get the recall for this vehicle earlier but nissan is saying they won’t honor the recall now because it has expired.

When i first bought it i heard a whistling sound and was told it was nothing. i travel a lot and while on the interstate i went from going 75 mph to 30 and it wouldn't accelerate. i would pull over and wait about 10 minutes until i could accelerate. initially i thought it was the fuel line so i put fuel injector in it and it a couple days later it happened while i was on the interstate again. this has happened to me at least 5 times. i can't even drive it on the interstate. after taking it to the multiple mechanics i was told that it was the transmission and it will need to be replaced.

Initially experienced loss of power around 30,000 miles while going 80 mph on interstate. extremely dangerous situation as the only option is to pull off to the side of the road. took it to dealer but they couldn't replicate or find anything wrong. vehicle continued to randomly lose power while at high rates of speed, as well as a loud whining and humming sound. took to dealership 8 different times and still couldn't find anything. was told if a check engine light came on that would help locate issue. check engine came on during loss of power issue, and dealership still told me couldn't pinpoint problem. the most recent loss of power in june 2018, i was nearly struck from behind by a semi truck travelling at a high rate of speed because there is no warning for the loss of power and there was no where to pull off to. still an ongoing issue, and nissan refuses to acknowledge the problem or do anything to assist.

Complete loss of power climbing a steep grade uphill, almost caused accident sandwiched between two 18 wheelers also going uphill one of which had to swerve sharply to avoid hitting us. cvt transmission likely went into fail-safe mode, same thing repeated multiple times on steep winding climbs on mountain highways. very dangerous situation with engine cutting out and loss of power. nissan has issued cvt recalls and extended warranty on models up to 2010 but the problem is still there in this 2012 altima and in many other complaints about the cvt on later models. nhtsa should get nissan to extend its recall/warranty to models after 2010 judging by the many complaints being reported about the same loss of power issue with the cvt.

Flashing seatbelt sign relating to passenger side. also when it rains both front and back doors are fill with water. when driving water can be heard swooshing. afterward to relieve the noise, i have to pick up the rubber at the base of the doors and water will ran out.

The dash is melting creating a shiny residue covering the dash. when the sun or bright lights guys at night is shining the shiny dash reflects on the windshield creating a glare that obstructs your vision while driving or turning on any highway or road. the service dept at my local dealer took photos and sent it to nissan about 18 months ago and i have heard nothing. it is getting so badd that while driving it has started obstructing the vision of the roadway.

The 2012 nissan altima coupe 3.5 6 speed manual transmission was in motion on a city street when sudden loss of clutch pressure occurred. this resulted in the inability to change gears and therefore effectively control the speed of the vehicle outside minimum and maximum speed specifications for the given gear. this was the result of a faulty concentric clutch slave cylinder.

Sustained driving more than an hour the transmission overheats and forces sensor to "fail safe mode" causing vehicle to drive only at low speed. this is a safety issue on the open road due to driving way under posted speed or having to stop n road side.

When traveling on freeway at 70-100 mph car will loose acceleration and slowly slow down to 40 mph no matter how far the gas pedal is depressed. will not regain power until the car is pulled over shut off and within 5-10 minutes restarted and will repeat again within 15 -20 minutes of reaching 70 mph.

Please note this is a safety hazard that occurs when the car is driving one the interstate or highway at 55-70 mph. the car will decelerate and slowly lose speed. i can slam the gas pedal to the floor and the car will not accelerate. this usually happens in very hot weather. it always happens in motion, and sometimes on a hill. it has almost caused me to be rear-ended while hauling children in my vehicle. if i stop the car and wait about 10 minutes, i can start it up and continue on going 300 or more miles before it may happen again. this had happened about 4 times in the last 4-5 months, but now it is occurring more frequently. there was no engine light and it was not giving a code. i took it to east tennessee nissan in morristown, tn, who could not determine the problem but said similar cars are experiencing transmission issues. i took it to a licensed transmission shop who could not get a code. the transmission shop said it could be a problem starting with the valve body of the transmission as he has seen as many problems with the 2011-2012 models as the earlier models that got extended warranties. both places said they could not give a guaranteed fix because it is not showing them a problem. yesterday, the problem occurred multiple times on our way home from vacation, almost getting us hit by a semi truck. finally, after 6 restarts yesterday, the car is showing code p0744, which is torque converter clutch intermittent which we have been told is the transmission valve body. this is an absolute danger that needs to be addressed before people are killed or seriously injured.

Car loses acceleration when driving. i noticed it does this when the temperature outside gets hot. i took my car into nissan last year (when it was still under warranty) and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it besides it needing brakes. now that the weather is getting hotter (palm springs, ca 120 degrees) and my car is out of warranty (75,000 miles) it's doing it again!! this is a huge safety issue. i've almost got rear ended twice because of this! since i know it's been happening i've been trying to use cruise control as much as possible on the freeway (going about 65-70) because i'm afraid it's going to do it again! last weekend i had to pull off the freeway 3 times because my car would not go over 40 mph!! i read online there are a ton of complaints about this same issue and nissan won't do anything to fix this. this is a huge safety issue and needs to be fixed with a recall! this has happened about 20 times in the past year!

The passenger air bag censor blinks on my dash on/off for passenger whether or not someone is in the seat or not. last time my husband sat in the passenger seat and the censor showed passenger air bag off. not at all safe this needs to be recalled asap before someone dies from this!!

I bought my car pretty much brand new (it didn't even have 20 miles on it). my first transmission was leaking around 30,000 miles. even though i asked my service advisor to check it, he assured me the tech's checked it and the only thing leaking was from the ac. i left, put the car on a lift, took pictures, and bought them to the dealer. they then replaced it under warranty. around 90,000 miles, i started having issues getting the car to go after a complete stop. its very random but is occurring more frequently. i was making a left turn yielding to traffic, i had plenty of time. however my car was crawling for 30 seconds or so. i am glad i didn't get stuck in the intersection. when a light turns green, people will beep their horn at me, or try to cut the people off in the other lanes to pass me. i frantically searched the web to find that tons of people are having this issue with nissan altimas of different years near mine. i was shocked to see that their were so many complaints between chat forms, complaint websites, and even so many youtube videos. you can push the gas pedal to the floor, but it crawls for a random amount of time (maybe up to a minute). here is someone who captured it on video on a car without even 30,000: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uliodpoi1_m i called the dealer and they said my car was no longer under warranty and the replacement transmission warranty is only good for 12,000 miles or 12 months. other companies have longer warranty periods for their transmissions. ford has 2 years. does nissan know how awful their transmissions are so they won't cover them for a longer period? i no longer feel safe in my car, and i feel like i could break down at any time, but i can't afford another car payment right now. please don't let nissan get away with this any longer. thank you for your help. *tr

The recall which recently came out for the airbag sensor in the front passenger seat needs to include 2012 altimas (not just 2013-2016). i have had this issue several times in the last year. there have been instances where i am in the front passenger seat and the airbag sensor says the airbag is off. this happens whether the car is stationary or moving.

I believe the recall which came out yesterday for the airbag sensor in the front passenger seat should include 2012 altimas (not just 2013-2016). i have had this issue several times in the last 6 months or so where i may or may not have a passenger or items on my front passenger seat and my airbag indicator light in the middle of the dash board will come on at random, even when there is a full-size adult in the seat. this happens whether the car is stationary or moving.

After driving at 70 mph for several hours, the vehicle will no longer accelerate and slows down. the vehicle needs to sit for a period of time before it is able to accelerate again. this issue had occurred before 8k miles earlier and had the cvt cooler replaced under warranty.

When i am driving... using the accelerator... and go to brake... my foot goes between the brake and accelerator and hits the floor instead of braking. this is dangerous.. the brake pedal and accelerator pedal are too far apart. it happens anywhere on street...or highway.

During start up, and while driving, the air bag indicator on the dash has been blinking non stop and the passenger air bag signal shows that it is not working wit ha passenger in the vehicle. nhtsa campaign 11v408000 clearly describes these exact symptoms for this year make and model car. when i contacted nissan of america, they said that this car does not fall under this recall, even though all of the factors are the same, they told me it was a "coincidence" that i just happened to have all the same symptoms. i absolutely will not accept that.

Cvt transmission and (un)"safe mode" this has occurred on multiple trips on the highway at speeds 60-80 mph that are usually in excess of 70 miles. the vehicles transmission will go into "safe mode". the vehicles transmission will no longer rev above 2900 rpm which inhibits the vehicles ability to maintain safe highway speeds especially if any sort of incline is introduced (it is hard to maintain a speed of 45mph and there is minimal ability to accelerate). the only remedy i have discovered is to let the vehicle cool down. after the first occurrence at ~ 40,000 miles the vehicle was taken to the dealership who stated they could find nothing wrong with the vehicle (codes or obvious defects). after the second occurrence the dealership stated that they could not find an issue, however nissan extended the warranty out to 100,000 miles. the transmission will still go into safe mode from time to time and has additionally began making a quite obnoxiously loud whining noise (at ~ 60,000 miles, similar to when a power steering pump is a about to fail).

I was driving my 2012 nissan altima on a busy 4 lane road. i was in the turning lane when my car refused to accelerate. i had power and the engine revved when i pushed on the pedal, but the car would not move. i put the car in park, shut it off and restarted it. the car then jerked its way through the intersection. a few hundred more yards and it stopped again in the middle of the road. i restarted multiple times but it would not move. i had it towed to my mechanic and i was told it was a failed cvt transmission. i called nissan america to see if they would help, and they said tow it to a nissan dealership and they would review it and see if they would help. i contacted nissan and they said my cvt transmission failed and that it was out of warranty. it will cost over $4000 to replace it. this is a dangerous event. i did not know when i bought the car about the problems nissan has had with these transmissions. after a week of waiting, nissan america came back and said they would not help. they would not offer a reason why. i asked about the fact that the cvt transmissions had so many problems that nissan retroactively doubled the warranty on models before 2010, would they do that for my 2012. i was told no. i asked to speak with a manager and i was refused, saying the review process is complete. i am lucky that i was not involved in an accident considering what happened. i am angry that this dangerous situation occurred. and i am frustrated that after suggesting they might help, nissan wasted another week of my time, when i could have gotten it fixed by my mechanic, instead of bringing it to a dealership.

On the above date, my vehicle was involved in an accident which after thorough assessment by the body shop and by the insurance company's field adjusters, was deemed a total loss. my vehicle's steering suddenly became very difficult due to the front wheels becoming seemingly locked and steering in the right direction was impossible. steering wheel was extremely hard to turn as well. the airbags did not deploy either. everything happened so fast. there was a loss of control which caused the vehicle to overturn or "flip". the vehicle was still upside down when passersby and law official arrived.this accident could have been avoided if we'd received prior notification. we know there were recalls for this year,make and model vehicle and those similar, however we were never notified by anyone of said recalls.this accident could have been fatal, that's how bad it was.by the grace of god it wasn't.

I was driving home from work the morning of 6/25 on the highway. my sunroof was open and my driver side window was open. i heard a large bang that sounded like a gun shot and tiny pieces of shattered glass flew in through my open sunroof. there was no other damage to my car and nothing that hit my car. my sunroof spontaneously exploded. because my sunroof was open at the time thousands of pieces of glass broke throughout the roof. i am bringing to nissan tomorrow to assess damage to the actual sunroof but i believe this is a manufacturer defect and should be covered by the dealership.

Light in the glovebox doesnot have a switch. it turns on as soon as the headlights are turned on. my glovebox was full of some paper and i opened the glove box to fin dhte papers became very hot to touch and i felt like they would burn any moment. a switch should be included so that the light turns on only when the glove compartment is opened. any cloth of easily flammable material can catch fire due to heat and go unnoticed.

Today was the second time i've experienced this dangerous issue while driving on the freeway for about an hour and a half long. my car began to lose speed and would not accelerate above 60 mph. while i had the gas pedal down completely all the way to the floor, as the car could not gain speed. i could have been in a serious accident with all the traffic on the freeway, i had to merge over to the far right for safety. i drove my car immediately after to nissan so they could verify this issue. they failed to help me in any way recommending i invest in a cvt cooler, due to not being covered under warranty anymore. a couple months back when the car was still under warranty i took it to nissan with the same issue, at that time they stated they could not detect an issue. but now my warranty is up they're suggesting what the car needs. i'm very upset with how dangerous this can be and how careless nissan is. it's like they are just waiting for someone to seriously be hurt in an accident to then do something about it.

On 5/16/2013 after a long period of highway driving my 2012 nissan altima, the vehicle lost power and i was forced to pull over to the right lane in order not to get hit from traffic behind me. after awhile i was able to limp into my local nissan dealer. nissan service said it was a electronic control module (ecm). nissan replace and reprogrammed the ecm under warranty. on 7/11/2013 the same issue returned leaving me in a dangerous situation with no power on the highway driving at highway speeds! again i limped back to my local nissan dealer and this time they diagnosed that i needed a new transmission and they gracefully covered it even though i now had 41k miles. now less than 2 years later 5/13/2015 my car lost power just as it had before on the highway at highway speeds, narrowly getting creamed before pulling over! back to the nissan dealer and at first they reported nothing wrong with my car. i told them it happens when the car is hot, they replied that they couldn't drive it that long! finally after several calls the dealer found a tsb (ntb-13-079) identifying the sensor on the transmission forced it to go into limp mode when the transmission gets hot. nissan's fix is to sell me a $640. transmission cooler. there is a serious defect with these transmissions putting drivers at risk of serious injury and nissan knows about it!

Door locks would not disengage 5 times in two years. most recent on thursday for forty minutes! pretty sure it's a cold weather issue, but definitely a safety hazard. especially for a 67 year-old, arthritic, 260lb. school crossing guard who took 5 minutes to get up and over the console and finally force his way out of the passenger side door! it was only a couple degrees below zero, so i'm a little surprised it took 40 minutes for the driver's door to unlock. i leave the door unlocked overnight, but when i leave for school in the morning, the darn doors lock automatically at 15mph and i can't get out once i reach my destination! so i went to the nissan dealer and paid 51 simoleons to have the auto doorlock mechanism disabled! gotta be a better way! *tr

Work/repair orders, available on request. it appears to be a common issue with nissan altima's featuring the ctv transmission. 1) purchased the car from hertz, 12/13. 2) acceleration problem noted when first extended trip was taken to bakersfield in 5/14. 3) problem: when the engine was warm the transmission sensor fails and car can not accelerate. car failed going over the "grapevine" in gorman, ca. 4) under nissan 60m warranty, took the car to get checked. car had 59m miles on it. explained the problem. they claimed it was a throttle sensor. fixed it under warranty. 5) next trip to las vegas, going up the i-15 through victorville, aug/2014. the exact same problem occurred. acceleration failed when engine was warm and climbing a gradual incline. 6) took the car back to bp nissan. now they claim to know for sure the problem was not with the throttle sensor but with the ctv transmission. unfortunately they now claim my car is no longer under warranty and requires a $4,000.00 new transmission. 7) after researching the problem it appears this is a common problem for the new altima ctv transmission. they new what the problem was when i first brought the car in with 59m miles on it. they "kicked the can down the road" hoping i wouldn't come back until after the 60m mile warranty expired. dangerous situation having to pull to the side of the freeway. especially with kids in the car. they refuse to give me a "decline of service" letter. please advise. regards, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Our 2012 nissan altima's passenger airbag light will shows the airbag being inactive while a person is sitting in the passenger seat. all people who have sat in this seat this issue occurred are over 120 pounds. twice we took the car to the planet nissan in las vegas where we purchased the car. their service department said since the issue can be replicated they cannot do anything to fix the issue. this has happened at least a 100 hundreds times in the past two years of ownership. every time we call a dealership we hear the same answer unless we can see the problem and duplicate it we cannot help you. the issue is the airbag light can be lit (showing airbag to active) and on the way to the dealership the light goes out and we are back to square one. after two years of getting nowhere with this we took video of the last time it happened. we brought this to autonation nissan in las vegas and they check the wiring harness said it is not loose there is nothing else we can do unless we can duplicate the issue. we logged a complaint with nissan usa hq and received the same response, sorry we cannot help you nay further. with all the recent and past nissan airbag recalls i am shocked at their lack of wanting to do something extra to troubleshoot the problem. i have researched many car forums and this is a common problem with nissan, they push the consumer away with the typical cannot replicate the problem therefore it isn't one. at this point there is no guarantee anyone sitting in the passenger seat is safe in a head on crash. is it going to take a person's death for nissan to step up and make this right? this eerily reminiscent of gm not acting on the faulty ignition switches in a timely manner. *tr

Brake failure due to 4 seized brake calipers. my wife was unable to stop completely at a busy intersection entering oncoming traffic lanes. no cars were present or she would have been hit, but very scary for my wife. all four rotors showed only a thin stripe of pad contact down the middle of the rotor. took car to dealership was told this was normal and not covered under the warranty due to corrosion of there calipers. car had been in there repair shop 7 months earlier. rotor deglazing was recommended but nothing was said about the brakes calipers seizing and brake failure. deglazing of rotors would have been at my expense and i felt this was the dealerships responsibility if there was a safety issue. being unaware of the severity of this "common" problem i elected to pass. never did anybody state that this could lead to total brake failure and was anything but deglazing of the rotors, a dealer add on expense. spoke to my local mechanic and he thought it was unnecessary. i had to replace all for rotors and pads, they cleaned up the calipers and said they should be fine. how will i know if they are fine or not? must i have brake failure again to find out they were wrong? i do not trust the brakes on this vehicle, they should not seize up on a 2 1/2 yr old car that's kept in a heated garage daily. they stated it was because of my location, upstate new york, and they could not guarantee the brakes system in such a harsh environment. i have never heard of brakes rusting and seizing before on any vehicle this new with such few miles. the manufacturer uses inferior materials to build its parts and its the consumers responsibility to be aware of this? i had no idea that there brake calipers seizing due to driving in the winter was a "common" safety issue. how can this be my responsibility to know that they have a problem with there braking system? *tr

The paint on the hood came off in a chunk, during a car wash. it as reported to the dealer and nissan directly. after they gave me the runaround for 6+ months, nissan said it was not their problem, that it was an environmental issue. i have since had the car repaired. the hood needed to be taken down to bare metal, and repainted. the cost was over $500.00. now the roof is doing the same as the hood.i am not a happy nissan owner. *tr

This vehicle has lost power at highway speeds 3 times now. just driving along and it just starts slowing down on its own. running 70mph and it just loses power and it slows to around 25mph. you mash the gas pedal to the floor and it has no effect, it will not increase speed. you pull over, shout the car off and restart and it runs fine again. you get no warning lights, no codes. this is a dangerous situation and should be looked into. dealership said they have never heard of such a thing. i see someone else has filed a complaint with the same problem now maybe you will take a closer look at this very serious issue. *tr

I was driving on interstate 17 going uphill when all of a sudden my car went into what is known as "limp mode"(loss of power). my speed dropped to 25 mph. i had numerous trucks almost rear end me, until i could limp onto the shoulder. i took it straight to a nissan dealer in flagstaff az. when i got there he pointed to four other vehicles and said to me "what just happened to you, happened to those other 4 nissans right there". i was told by the dealer " you need a transmission cooler installed because of the hot climate we live in this happens all the time, the transmission gets overheated, it's a defect nissan has known about for awhile now". i believe this is a safety issue and it's only a matter of time until someone gets killed when their car looses power on an interstate. i have contacted nissan on numerous occasions only to be told "since no code popped up nothing can be done". the power train is still under warranty. i have tried going through the proper channels with nissan, but it's been in vain. this is a known problem yet they will not recall these vehicles. again sooner or later this will cause an accident and i'm afraid it could be fatal. *tr

The hood release on these cars is down under the dash, where it can easily be pulled with the toe of your shoe. it has happened before, but my wife was outside of the car and heard it pop. this day, we were on our way home from church. made it all the way onto the highway and reached 70 mph, speed limit on that highway is 75 mph. the hood flew up, damaging the windshield, roof, hood, fenders and hood hinges. this is very disturbing that the 2013's are being recalled when the design is the same from 2012 to 2014 that i am aware of. we have been warning other drivers of this danger. i have been driving for 30 years and have emergency vehicle to 18 wheeler training and experience. not everyone will be so lucky. *tr

We were driving on the interstate at about 70 mph and were unable to accelerate. accelerator peddle all the way to the floor and the most we could go was 45 mph. had the car towed to a nissan dealership and found out it was the shift select assembly that had broken/malfunctioned and the car had gone in to failure mode. there was not warning light at all and this could have been very dangerous on the interstate. first i feel that this part of the car should never have broken in a 2-year old car and i have to wonder if there is a defect in the part for this model year of the altima. second, if and when this piece does break or malfunction, there should be some sort of warning light on the dash to make the driver aware and pull over. nissan is aware of my concerns as i have shared them with their consumer affairs department. *tr

On monday night at 12:00am i was driving from california to las vegas nevada. i was going 75 miles an hour when the car started to loose speed. the excel-orator would not move and had locked.the car speed had dropped to 40mph and would not move. there was a semi in front of me and two other vehicles to the side of me. i almost got into a big accident. i was able to pull over to the side. terrified, i began to panic so i shut the car off. i drove the next 60 miles to vegas going 30mph the car would not go to a higher speed. when i took the car to the dealer they said it was a safety feature. i do not understand how a safety feature would deliberately jeopardize the safety of the driver. it is driving on the highway for fear that this may happen again. *tr

Driving long distances my car overheats, looses power going from 70 mph down to 40 mph in high speed traffic. i am forced to get off the highway and let it reset itself. it has always made a whining noise during acceleration, and the brakes have squeaked from day one. i have complained to nissan several times and am always been given lame excuses. now that my warranty is up they have a solution to my problems. new transmission or overheat converter to the tune of $1600. how convenient they have a solution not that my car is out of warranty!! they refuse to help me or fix my car unless i fork over the money. my car has had problems since i purchased it and there was never any resolve. i purchased an extended warranty as i do a lot of driving. my car was out of warranty 2,000 miles when they miraculously found a cause and solution for my problem.

Bought this car nov 30 2013 from the dealer that originally owned it, it was a loaner car for their service dept. from day one that i have owned it, the passenger airbag light goes on an off at will. with nothing in the seat, it comes on and off, with a person in the seat it also comes on and off. this is a major safety issue! i took it to the dealer and they said it didn't do it while they were looking at it. bring it back when it gets worse.... there are alot of these cars out there with this problem! there needs to be a recall on the sensor/seat/electrical system related to this. i am sure there is a short in the system. my grandmother's 2012 altima also does this same thing. also something is leaking onto the passenger side floorboard by the console. the dealer said it was a body panel and "fixed" it, but it is still leaking in the same spot, i have not had time to take it back to the dealer yet for the leak. *tr

I had pulled into a parking lot at a local gym, as i placed the car in park, the vehicle continued to stay in drive and surged forward into the building. once the vehicle hit the building, i once again tried to place the car in park, and it once again surged forward and hit the building. the only way i could stop the car was to hit the power button to turn the car off. once the officer arrived on scene, he asked me to place the car in neutral so that he could move the car off the curb, however, the car continued to move forward. as a result the car was once again powered down to avoid any further incident. *tr

Headliner was made incorrect for all 2012 models and nissan is aware and refuses to issue a recall. we have two of the same year altima purchased on the same date. also there is something wrong with the suspension still and when i turn to left it makes a popping sound. went in to get oil changed and was told i had an oil leak that was going back into my engine and blew one of my cylinders and tore an o-ring so had to have that replaced. also something wrong with rear defroster that required back windshield to be replaced. horrible control issues when going over 50 mph. also sunroof repaired several times due to repeatedly breaking on the track piece. this car as very poorly made and nissan will not own up to their mistakes. also breaks squeak non stop and grind and have since cars were purchased, nissan informed us this was normal since they have metal break pads on the 2012 models. if i could give cars back i would in a heartbeat. huge lemons on the 2012 hence the entire remake of the 2013's, they knew they messed up. *tr

Filling the fuel tank the gas pump shut off thinking the tank was full when if fact the fuel gauge showed it wasn't full, i proceeded to fill the tank again and it took an additional 2 gal. before it registered full, i did this two other times and the same thing occurred, in addition i would drive approximately 60miles and the fuel gauge would show that i used approximately 4-5gal of gas? this is a 4 cly. i took it to the dealer and they encountered the same problem, they replaced the fuel filler valve and that didn't help, then they replaced the fuel pump, that didn't help, i'm scheduled to go to the dealer again. something is not calibrated to the fuel gauge, i don't get a reasonable reading of how much fuel i have and i want to top off once. i purchased the 2012 in feb. 2013 as a certified pre-own.

Purchased my 2012 nissan altima coupe 8/2/2012. in just over 30 days the paint was coming off the rear bumper on both sides near the rear tire where the bumper meets the body of the car. took the car in to have the bumper repainted. within 60 days the paint was coming off in the same place again. took the car back last month and was repainted with 3 flaws...needless to say it has to go back yet again!! also, within a few days of purchase i noticed that the radio would not pick up local radio stations without a lot of static and interference. only 1 out of 12 presets do i get on a consistent basis and i only drive within a 25-30 mile radius of my home. took to the dealer and they said it was because of the window tint. gave them information from 3m that the tint would not interfere with the radio and then they said they didn't hear it. taken back on several occasions and no resolve. noticed 3/17/2013 that my leather wrapped steering wheel has split in the grain of leather and it is right where my right hand goes to drive. transmission is not consistent...when i let off the gas briefly it is as if someone has hit the brake pedal and the car "draws back"...very annoying!!! i also purchased xzilon paint protection system at the dealers recommendation because the car is black and i live in fl...now 7 months later this protectant has completely ruined the paint on my car and shows horrible marks on the hood and leaves terrible water spots on the vehicle that are almost impossible to remove. taking to the dealer for the new paint issue tomorrow. i am hoping to just trade in and get another car...unfortunately under the circumstances it will be a nissan...but will not be an altima! *tr

The passenger side air bag off warning light intermittently turns on when there is a passenger seated in the passenger seat. this indicates that if there were an accident while this warning light is on; the passenger air bag would not go off; which can result in serious injury. i have brought this vehicle to the dealer three times for this issue and they tell me that there are no "codes" to be read and they are unable to reproduce this. the dealer expressed concern that they would have to replace the entire passenger seat because the occupancy classification sensor can't be individually replaced. apparently this seat is quite expensive; over $2000 and the dealer claims that they can't just replace it without some authorization from nissan. i have even taken a video of my wife in the car seated in the passenger seat and the airbag off warning light is turned on (youtu.be/uwoqjqwraei) and have provided a link to the dealer. i have called nissan consumer affairs hoping they would have my car fixed. they reply they gave was that since the dealer couldn't reproduce it; they can't do anything. my wife is afraid of driving in the car with me for fear that she could be injured. i have even posted this video so my last resort is to report this to nhtsa where i see that someone else has posted a similar incident. *tr

The driver's seat is crooked - both across the back and across the seat. this means one's shoulders and torso are twisted and facing the center console, not the steering wheel. hips are uneven with the right side significantly lower than the left. this is a very uncomfortable and painful position to be in. i have been informed by the dealership that all 2012 altimas are like this and therefore it is not a warranty item! i have been able to determine the back of the seat is in fact crooked in the more than two dozen examples i have been able to check. however, the seat bottom is not supposed to sag or be uneven on either side. i've contacted nissan north america and have been told the dealership is my only avenue to pursue a remedy. due to the dealership's determination that the seat is supposed to be crooked my choices are pay someone else or try myself to shim the entire seat or try to adjust the mechanism underneath to level the bottom. nothing can be done about the seat back... *tr

The pedals are positioned too close together. my husband complained of this a few weeks ago when he drove my car because his shoe got caught on the brake pedal as he was lifting his foot off the gas pedal. then, yesterday, the same thing happened to me. i nearly drove my car through the front of the daycare where i was dropping off my son. i am now aware of how extra-cautious i have to be when driving my car so this doesn't happen again. this has never happened to me with any other car. i've been driving for 25 years! *tr

The headrest is tilted forward so far that it makes it very uncomfortable to drive. your head is facing the instrument panel almost, instead of facing the road. it makes for a very uncomfortable and painful driving experience. i hope someone can do something about that since the dealer can't. *tt

Hi, i would like to bring it to your notice that the headlights provided with my nissan altima do not provide adequate lighting on the street. it is particularly very difficult when making turns, and the other side is like a 4 lane road(the divider is visible when it is already too late). it is my personal experience that when you are unfamiliar with the roads in an area, you will end up on the wrong side of the road (the light is not wide enough and not bright enough). i was lucky that the roads were empty. i have noticed that cars from other manufacturers which are older and smaller light up roads better than my new car does(ex: hyundai elantra). sir, i have approached the nissan dealership and ask them to install hid lamps on my car(i would pay for it) and they say nissan would not do it. some times it feels like i have no head lights and as if i am driving with lighting from other cars. please investigate this issue. i would be really happy if they would provide proper headlamps with right amount of lighting and wide enough beam to ensure a safe and non-life threatening driving experience. thanks, a driver who wants to be alive. *tr

2012 nissan altima would not shut off. ignition switch was unresponsive. the fuel pump fuse had to be removed so the car would shut off. then the negative battery cable was removed to reset. battery cable was reconnected and fuel pump fuse reinstalled. car would now start and shut off normally. this has only happened once but it concerns us because this car is only four months old and has less than 5,000 miles. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 nissan altima. the contact stated that the brake and accelerator pedal were positioned too close together. as a result, the contact inadvertantly depressed both pedals simultaneously. neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 5 and the current mileage was 12,000. the vin was unavailable.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 nissan altima. the contact stated that the push to start button, which powered the vehicle on and off, was malfunctioning. the contact depressed the push-to-start button to shut the engine off but to no avail. the failure was experienced numerous times. the dealer vehicle was taken to the dealer but not repaired. the failure mileage was 5 and the current mileage was 12,500.

2012 nissan altima rental vehicle. consumer states vehicle unexpectedly came to a near complete stop on the left- of- middle lane while driving on the highway *tgw the consumer stated with no warning, the vehicle rapidly slowed down from 60 mph to approximately 5 mph and began to shake and jerk. the consumer stated there was an odor of fumes indicating that something was burning or melting. the temperature gauge was as high as it could go, indication the engine had overheated.

I was driving my vehicle and was traveling at speed of the road and i wanted to make a full stop but i hit a car in front of me! i pushed and pushed the brakes and the vehicle never brake!! also my air bags did not deploy!! there is physical and bodily damage to the car in front of me! also my car was damaged! nissan should step up to fix this problem! *tr

Traveling down a four lane road going 55 mph. it was around 10 a.m., sunny and dry. there was no debris on the road. i heard a loud "pop" which came from behind the passenger seat and in front of back tire. we looked for debris on the road, saw none. car was running fine. continued 10 - 15 more miles to home of father-in-law. stepped out of car and smelled strong gas fumes. proceeded around back of car to passenger side. observed a puddle of gasoline in front of rear passenger tire. slow, steady drip was coming from bottom of car above puddle. car was towed to nissan dealer in lexington, ky. they reported the fuel tank was punctured. *tr

If you leave the key outside the vehicle and it is touching the vehicle the push button ignition will acknowledge the key and start the vehicle. according to the manual the key must be with you (inside) in order for the vehicle to start. there is no warning stating otherwise. this is a personal security and safety issue. *tr

All nissans have loud clunking sound at startup at around 30 miles per hour. nissan says it is the abs brake test. very annoying and very loud. *kb

On 7-19-11i took possession of a new nissan altima at saratoga nissan, malta, ny. shortly after that date i noticed that the seat selt audible warning device was not working. i took it to the dealer 8-26-11 for repair of that component but was told, in writing, that this vehicle "was not designed with an audible chime". this is not consistent with the owners manual on this vehicle that states that is equipped with an audible seat belt warning "chime". also it appears inconsistent with nhtsa new vehicle standard 571.208, s 7.3. please advise if this vehicle should be equipped with an audible seat belt warning reminder, or if nissan has been granted an exception to this rule. I own a 2012 nissan altima and the car was running good untill 70000. after 70k mile its started making too much noise and at 80k miles its losing power even if i run the gas pedal all the way.the rpm will staty at 2500 at this point.when i researched found out that the cvt transmissions has design falw and most of the cvt transmission has the same issue. i took it to the nissan dealer and they said i have to replace the transmission.i cant believe that nissan cars lasts for only 70k miles. these problems are coming when i am driving on the highway all of a sudden and its very dangerous to drive this car.

When i try to start the car, the power comes on(radio comes on, dashboard lights), but the ignition doesn't start. the car has less than 15k miles on it. *tr
