Water leaking through map lights when it rains. It is September 2017 and I bought my 2009 Jeep Patriot in May 2017.

Sunroof leaks. This will be the 4th time tacking it to the dealer. Not real happy !!! The stereo already had to be replaced due to water damage.

I cannot put fuel into the vehicle without it continuously shutting the gas off after a few seconds. I have been told that the entire gas tank needs to be replaced. I found a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB 14-001-09 REV.A) that addresses the exact same issue with other Chrysler automobiles, but the 2009 Jeep Patriot is not included. My online research has uncovered other Jeep Patriot owners who have experienced the exact same issue with no recourse but to pay out-of-pocket for a new fuel tank. I have been quoted $1400.00 to have the fuel tank replaced. I do not understand why Chrysler Jeep is not taking responsibility for this issue with the 2009 Patriot. I would be interested in knowing how many Jeep Patriot owners had to have their gas tanks replaced and if Chrysler Jeep has repair records of gas tank replacements done in their repair shops. What happens if someone cannot afford to have this fixed?

I purchased a 2009 Jeep Patriot in 2010 from a Jeep dealer in Ohio. It was a certified pre-owned vehicle. On September 9,
2015, I heard a ‘POP’ sound under my Jeep. After inspecting the vehicle and noticing quite a bit of rust, I had the vehicle towed to an auto repair shop. The mechanics there informed me that part of the subframe of the vehicle had rusted through, and was unsafe to drive. I had the Jeep towed to a Chrysler Jeep Dodge dealer. They confirmed what the initial mechanic had reported, that the crossmember/Kframe and control arms had rusted through. These pieces are vital for maintaining control of the vehicle. At the time of failure, the vehicle was 6 years old and had approximately 85,000 miles. Both the mechanic and the dealer said they had not seen rust/degradation this bad on a vehicle this relatively new, both were astonished.

After doing some research, it appears this is not an isolated incident. 137,176 Jeep Liberty SUVs from the 2006 and 2007
model years were recalled to fix corrosion problems due to long-term exposure to road salt. Also, while looking the
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website, I found that there are at least 6 other complaints with the 2009
Jeep Patriot for the same issue. Based on this information, I opened a case with Chrysler to determine if they would cover
the cost of repairs. They requested information from the dealer, description and digital images, and once they reviewed
the facts, determined the repairs would not be covered; they determined the corrosion was caused by road salt, the same
issue that prompted a recall on other models. I requested to have someone from Chrysler come out to review the damage, and
they declined. I was told that whether or not someone came out, the costs would not be covered. While trying to obtain information from Chysler regarding how a decision was made, or anything else for that matter, I was told that no information could be divulged due to a privacy act, which I assumed would protect

I had the dealer perform the repairs at a cost of $2450, out of pocket. The concerning part of this is that if owners are
unaware that this is a potential problem, they will not have this checked. If the crossmember deteriorates enough, a
driver can lose total control while driving. My pregnant wife and two year old often rode in the Jeep with me, and it makes me shutter to think we could have been killed had I not heard that ‘POP’ noise.

It appears there is some defect in these vehicles that Chrysler is refusing to review or at least share the results of
that review. Someone is going to be seriously injured or killed until this issue is resolved.

Jeep Patriots have a known leak issue. Jeep refused to acknowledge this issue. When it rains, water pours out of the front dome light fixture. Pours out. Scary when you’re driving. I wish Jeep would acknowledge and stand up to the issue. I have been a loyal Jeep owner for years, and I still love the vehicles. Jeep’s refusal to deal with this issue surprises me.

Sunroof leaking into interior roof to the lowest points, my dome lights, and onto my dash and radio. My radio has know stopped picking up AM/FM stations after last rainfall. Attempted to fix in August of 2014, when a local garage unstopped the drainage tubes. Didn’t leak for about a week afterwards but today is leaking again. Paid $224.00 for repairs that did not work. I have not attempted to replace the radio since I have not successfully been able to stop the leaking. I have contacted an attorney who has filed a class action lawsuit and hope that Chrysler will resolve this problem sometime in the near future.

The sunroof leaks. I take it to the dealer, they say they can ‘fix’ it. They blow out the drain lines. That does not fix it, within a few months it is blocked/kinked again. Why does the water drip through the window seal anyway? Seems that is what needs fixing. I have had to replace the radio-$550.00-and every time they blow out the drain lines, it is $35.00. This is my 5th and LAST Jeep product. It is parked in a garage all day at work and all night at home. What would the problem be like if I parked it under trees? Now the map lights don’t work from the water damage, and yes, I know, it is past warranty-In the beginning, you think you left it open a crack, or it is cold and something is frozen, and then the dealer says they can ‘fix’ the problem. And now, finally, I am realizing this iss a design flaw-I Googled it, and I am among thousands of people with this problem. Chrysler needs to fix this issue.

Sunroof started leaking and pouring water through the maplight and flashlight in the back. Now in June 2014 it has started happening again and is not only leaking through the light fixtures it is leaking through the headliner and around the sunroof cover, as well as the holes for the side airbags.

When I purchased the vehicle new in 2009, water came in through the map light and on the driver’s side pillar after first rain. Returned to dealer who replaced the seal but problem re-surfanced during next rain. Went to another dealer who cleared the drain lines which seemed to fix the problem, although, for a new vehicle, it seems odd the drains would have been clogged. Did not observe any electrical issues as others have indicated except for the LED flashlight in the cargo area dying. This was replaced by died again (possibly the re-charging mechanism had been corrupted by the leak?) but I do not use the light so did not pursue further.

Winter of 2012-13 (after 3 year warranty had expired), same leak re-appeared whenever would have precipitation and freezing temperatures followed by a thaw. Since it didn’t occur during “normal” precipitation and being in the south where we don’t have freezes very often, did not seek repair. Quoted $100-$300 from all dealers in area saying the drain lines cannot simply be blown out with compressed air since the pressure can disconnect them and instead they must remove the head liner and clear them manually.

While traveling in July of 2013, experienced heavy rain while vehicle parked level or facing up on an incline (at home, normally park slightly facing down on an incline) and leaks were much worse with driver’s side head liner becoming wet. This indicated the rear drains were the ones clogged. I rarely use the sunroof, have never left it open for an extended period and especially avoid opening it during the heavy pollen seasons of the south, so I don’t understand how the drains can get clogged and why they cannot easily be cleared (this seems like a design flaw).

Patriot Sport: Ever since June 2010, I have had the car in for repair of the leaking sunroof about every 10 months. After heavy rainfall the sunroof leaks through the dome light, saturating the headliner & carpeting. I am afraid of a possible short at the dome light which can lead to a fire in the vehicle. Not only that but the build up of mold & mildew at the headliner & carpeting is not healthy. Chrysler feels that they are no longer liable since it now is out of warranty. I do not understand why it was never put on a recall list, since there are so many complaints on this issue.

I bought this vehicle used in August of this year. Upon the first few rainy days which were light rain I did not see any issues. Then one day we had significant rainfall and my interior dome light filled up with water and poured over me as I turned a corner one day. I did not know what to think other than there must be a leak. So I called the local dealer, left a message and never received a call back. Then it happened again only this time in much more quantity. It leaked so much that my roof liner is stained and it dripped into my radio causing the display to quit working. I called the dealer again and they answered this time and proceeded to tell me to call Chrysler directly. The phone call to Chrysler Jeep went well and I thought I was on the right path. They told me to get an estimate at my own cost of $80. I did. The estimate came back over $3000. I called Chrysler Jeep telling them I did what they asked me to do. They assigned it to a case manager and she investigated the claim with the service advisor at the local dealership. They determined that the drain tubes were blocked by dirt, debris, leaves, etc. and told me that it is a maintenance issue and I should have had this cleaned out to prevent a blockage. I was appalled that they expected me to know that I am supposed to clean out drainage tubes on a vehicle. She said it is a flaw of nature. I told her no it is an engineering flaw and her answer was unacceptable to me that there is nothing that can be done. So I continue to have this problem, spent $80 of my own money on their recommendation and moving forward I am afraid the next time it rains. I don’t know what I can do to make this problem go away short of paying the money to get it fixed. I want to get into a classaction suit if there is one.

Patriot Sport: Immediately after purchasing the 2009 Jeep Patriot an interior water leak was discovered. The first visit to dealer was 11/3/09 with 2282 miles on it. Next visit was 11/17/2009. Another visit on 1/6/10 with 5790 miles on it. Another visit on 9/14/10 at 12170 miles. Yet another visit on 9/24/10 at 12435 miles. Again on 12/7/10 at 14897 miles. It has been to the dealer over 7 times for this problem. Every time they say it is fixed only to discover it is still leaking. Water comes into the overhead electrical system and runs out of the overhead lights like a faucet or waterfall. Water ponds on the rear cargo area and this area is completely soaked. Water is even done in spare wheel storage. Water comes from all overhead lights depending on pitch of vehicle. Unknown if water is running down interior sides of vehicle or where else water is pooling. Concerned about mold, rust, water damage, electrical problems, etc., that are being caused by water entering vehicle. Dealership has “fixed” it numerous times only to not have it fixed. Vehicle is scheduled for return visit to dealer for another attempt at fixing this problem.

The sunroof Leaks, because the drain tubes clog. The repair shop allegedly blow them out. They work fine until the next rain storm or visit to the car wash. THen water comes gushing out of the dome light and down and through the electrical components on the dash.
The service dept at the dealership where I bought the Jeep, have suggested I “not park under any trees”. This is ridiculous. Not only is NOT my tree that’s causing this, they failed to offer any kind of Fix for the problem, stating Jeep hasn’t designed a repair for it. All they could do was clean out the lines whenever it leaked again. This of course is at MY cost.
The sunroof leak has been an ongoing problem since we bought the jeep, new.
It’s been “repaired” several times. THey blow out the drain lines and tell us not to park near any trees. WTF?
Then i take it to the car wash and it leaks again. They tell us not to spray the water too direct at the roof.
Water gushing through my dome light has washed down through the dash console and now my hands free (U-Connect) is malfunctioning.
The service dept, charged me to look at it and supposedly fixed it. It’s still does not work properly. All the console buttons are sticking.
This problem started when the jeep had a warranty package. Now that it’s no longer under warranty, they charge me to “put a bandaid” on it and tell me stay out of the woods… WITH MY JEEP!!!!
When is Chrysler going to take responsibility for this?

roof leaks been 2 times for repairs

Water leaking from dome light onto radio and electronics. Satellite radio no longer displaying correct info.

purchased this vehicle in february of 2009 and by the fall of 2009 started seeing water leaking through the dome light that progressively got worse. Finally in october of 2009 I was able to free up time to bring my vehicle in to the dealer to have it fixed, they claimed they cleaned out the sunroof drain tubes and it fixed the problem. no more than two months later the same problem started up and got even worse, cups full of water leaking through the dome light and onto the electrical front interior panels on the dashboard. However, this time the Dealership claimed it is not under warranty and is a maintenance issue. This is a serious safety concern and should be fixed by the Jeep dealer free of charge, especially since the car is only 2 yrs old with 31K miles on it.

Vehicle engine cuts out without warning after filling the gas tank the last 5 fill-ups. gas tank is not being overfilled. usually happens within the first 1/2 mile after leaving the gas station. happened recently as i was pulling out into traffic from the gas station on a busy street. fortunately i was able to pull over and restart without incident. definite safety concern that is well documented on www.jeeppatriot.com

The frame is rotting out. the car is only 7 years old. their is a recall on the 2007 and the 2008 and 2009 should also be recalled for this issue. i am going to have to sell. it is vibrating and a safety issue.

It was recently brought to my attention from a friend who has the same year vehicle that the subframes on these jeep rots out and can cause a severe accident due to the suspension components coming loose. there is a recall from jeep for the 2007 year jeep patriot but no other year, even though they use the same part number subframe. my jeep has 65 thousand miles on it and the subframe doesnt look like it will last another 10000 miles. the metal is obviously defective because a vehicles frame should not rot out with only 65000 miles on it. the rest of the underneath of this vehicle is perfectly clean.

Vehicle dies when driving away from gas station every time after filling tank. it does in the middle of the road creating a safety hazard. dodge had a recall for this but jeep has not. when i was at mechanics yesterday they had a heep compass that was doing the same thing.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 jeep patriot. while the contact's daughter was driving 35 mph, the vehicle started to vibrate violently when the brake pedal was depressed. the contact depressed the accelerator pedal and the vehicle failed to accelerate, but the rpms remained at 5. there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. prior to the failure, the contact's daughter took the vehicle to a dealer for a noise in the engine. the vehicle was diagnosed with needing a new battery, sparks plugs, and transmission. the vehicle was not repaired at that time. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was approximately 96,000.

Side airbag deployment while driving stopped at a red light no impact.

Intake manifold runner control stuck open. check engine light on. vehicle has 92000 miles only. mechanic told me it is a common issue with these vehicle. vehicle still runs but st udders during acceleration

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 jeep patriot. the contact stated that while driving at 20 mph, there was an abnormal sound coming from underneath the front end of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine cradle had corroded and the failure was caused by evaporating fluid leaking onto the cradle. the technician then stated that the cradle needed to be replaced. the vehicle was then taken to a dealer where the diagnoses and failure was confirmed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 130,000. the vin was unavailable.

2009 jeep patriot went to shop for a clunking noise coming from underneath the front driver side. clunking sound was occasional and most often happened when turning or going over a bump. i thought it might be a sway bar link. once up on the lift we could see that the crossmember up front (and other parts of the underbody) were severely rusted. mechanic (independent) advised that vehicle is no longer safe to drive as the rust is bad enough that it could crack through completely at any time, dropping out the engine, among other things. contacted chrysler about issue as i found out that the 2007 jeep patriot was given an extended warranty (10 year) for this exact same problem. chrysler offered me no assistance or guidance.

Sub frame rotted through.efecting right suspention not driveable. happend when drving city streets had to pull in to nearest garage.

The front crossmember is rusted through. chrysler extended the warranty for the 2007 to ten years to cover this problem, which if it fails can lead to loss of steering. chrysler will not extend the warranty for the 2009 patriot, which seems to have the exact same part and problem as the 2007 vehicles. my car has only 54800 miles on it and has been garage kept since i bought it. i believe this is a defect in the part resulting in a premature failure. i will have to get this replaced myself. photo atteched of rusted through part.

The tpm and security light flash intermittently/ i have had the vehicle over to fiat chrysler service for a number of repairs for the same problem. parts replaced included: steering wheel communication transceiver, internal wiring and ground checked, main engine transmission module, ignition switch. repairs have been covered by chrysler max care warranty, dealership has been working with me regarding repairs and supplied a loaner car. the tpm and security lights will flash for a short time at idle, speeds 10 mph through 60 mph, dry, rain, snow conditions. when the jeep has been for repairs chrysler factory was contacted by the servicing dealer. jeep owners manual says if the security light is on for 16 seconds the engine will shut down. initial diagnostics indicated the ignition key was not identified, the engine should not have started. on going problem from january 2017, new ignition switch replaced 3/ 8/ 2017. i drove around with a dealer installed diagnostic device for two weeks. when the tpm and sl powered on pressed a button on the diagnostic module that would recorded codes 20 seconds before and after the diagnostic device was triggered . i hope no one gets injured due to the jeep engine shutting off while driving the vehicle. once again the servicing dealer has been doing the best they can. chrysler needs to identify the problem, other similar problems have been reported on the internet.

The engine cradle rusted to the point that the front sway bar broke off and the control arm was about to on 1-28-2017. it was at dick scott dealership of plymouth mi. for a timing chain cover gasket repair on 10-6-2016. when i called the dealership to ask why i was not notified of the safety issue at that time. butch said we do not inform customers of rust issues. i was refused any assistance with this matter from fca and informed this would be an out of pocket expense. it is unconscionable that a certified mechanic would not deem this vehicle unsafe to drive about 100 days earlier. you will see from the attached photos.

Severe acceleration jerk. when accelerating between 5 and 60 miles an hour the engine and drive train jerk excessively as if the engine isn't getting fuel. will not jerk immediately after tank fill up bu will after next time driven until filled up again.

Every so often while driving and sometimes while car is not moving the electronic throttle control light comes on and the car stalls out, sometimes when its on long time the vehicle stability control light comes on , it seems to happen more the colder it is outside ,can not seem to find the problem but seems to be a common problem with the patriot and other chrysler models not sure why chrysler hasn't done anything to resolve this issue. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 jeep patriot. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled as the temperature warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. once the failure occurred, the contact pulled over, waited for a few minutes, and then restarted the vehicle and resumed normal driving. the contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the failure was linked to nhtsa campaign number: 08v528000 (power train) however, the vin was not included in the recall. ilderton chrysler dodge jeep ram (701 s main st, high point, nc 27260) was contacted and confirmed that the vin was not under recall. the dealer referred the contact to nhtsa for assistance. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was unknown.

Car has moonroof, water leaks come through map lights,and power awich for moonroof,drips on radio and gear selector,cant fix leak.very common problem with the research i have done,very distracting while driveing as water pours out of map /dome lights.only leaks water when car is in motion,not sitting.

During service, chrysler found front crossmember had a hole that was rusted through. was informed that if not fixed, my vehicle was dangerous to drive. had to pay for repair as my extended warranty through easycare does not cover rust.

Filling up with gas causes engine to stall. auto garage says it's the check ball for the fuel tank allowing for overfilling of tank and than fuel getting into the vacuum system which then cause the jeep to stall within 5 mins. the last time it was in the middle of in intersection with the kids in the car and almost getting hit by a driver not playing attention while my husband pushed the jeep out of the way till it wanted to start again.

Takes about 15 minutes or more to put gas in my gas tank. on the internet search it’s a common problem that a lot of jeep patriot’s have. from what i have read the cause is a roll over valve which is plastic and located in the tank itself. that the only way to solve the problem is to get a new tank put in. i feel that they should have had a recall on this and should have fixed the problem.on the internet vehicles with the same problem ranging from 2007-2015. this happens every time i try to put gas in my car.

Abs module control is not functioning. therefore i no longer have access to my abs brakes.

The rear suspension crosmember corroded and snapped in half. there was a 10year extended warranty that i apparently missed by a few months. this is super dangerous. it caused the tire to pop when i was driving home from it rubbing and then i veered off the road. the front crossmember is also in similar condition. there needs to be a recall asap. it is now stationary and immobile because of the situation. it was in motion when the accident happened on a city street. it caused me to need a tow.

Every time i fill up gas tank car wont start immediately and when i finally get it to start it turns off again when i drive off or at first stop i make. problem seems to only occur when gas tank is completely full.

Loud clunking noise from left front wheel area while driving and making turns.. visual inspection revealed crossmember seriously rusted and corroded at upper control arm area. several major cracks in subframe due to rust through compromising vehicle stability. complaints made to chrysler and the dealership with no resolution. chrysler was well aware of the issue and put out a service bulletin pertaining to the problem.service bulletin 23-007-17 rev b. extending warranty coverage for only 10 years. i believe chrysler deliberately put a 10 year cap on these parts to limit their responsibility because they were well aware of the severe rusting issue and knew other vehicles would soon be effected. i 'am now facing a repair bill of over $1000.00 and that does not include anything else that needs to be replaced because of this parts failure.

Jeep stutters and stalls out immediately upon filling tank with gas, almost got hit many times pulling out of gas station, this needs to be addressed, it is deadly and many other people on various forums have reported same problem. nhtsa needs to stop overlooking this issue. it is a common vehicle still on the road today and i have no plans to get rid of the car for at least another 5 years minimum. recall this issue, it is deadly and dangerous and i will not be a statistic.

The over heating light turns on on the dash and my car over heats after driving on the highway going over 50mph for more than 15 minutes. however, if i drive on state roads going 50mph or under the car doesn’t over heat. i got a new thermostat and new radiotor thinking it would solve the problem and it did not. there is no leak coming from the car so it is not a water pump issue. the coolant levels are good.

It has been making a cracking/clunking noise there for years. my wife complained of it sounding louder than normal, so i looked at it closer and noticed the crossmember was broken. i've been having issues with that side for several years and have replaced broken ball joints and control arms. i found out last night that this would've been a warranty item had i brought my vehicle in 6 months ago, but am being told that i brought it in too late. my reply was i didn't know that this was an issue and wasn't notified that there was an extended warranty placed on that part. *tr

12/12/19 tried to get on i-295 all lights on dash came on including malfunction indicator, esp bas, and others all came on when no lights were on before. lost power to jeep on 295 could not go any fast then 25 mph and then stalled; almost rear ended. could restart jeep, all dash lights still on, no power past 25 mph and made it off an off ramp where stalled again. towed jeep to mechanic where they replaced pcm, intake manifold, and o2 censor. called jeep because there is a recall to pcm and was told my vin not included. 12/26/2019 on i-295 going 70mph and jeep lost all power with no warning lights this time and had no acceleration. was in the far left lane and had near miss of being rear ended by tractor trailer. veered jeep to breakdown lane and towed to mechanic. second mechanic repaired ground at g104 on right side of engine bay said is reason for several computerised controls. 1/7/2020 put full tank of gas in vehicle and pulled into intersection and jeep bucked and stalled out. called mechanic said possible fuel sensor problem. jeep patriots have had issues with pcm and fuel problems but am told my 2009 jeep not a part of this recall. jeep is still not running properly and will not drive on highway. very dangerous and very expansive.

I was in motion and the trans temp light light up and my car began to stale in the middle of the highway. i was traveling alone and 4 hours away . this was very dangerous. i could have been hit by a passing truck. luckily, i was in the left lane and was able to park on the shoulder. i had to search my safety manual to understand what was happening. i had to wait over 30 mins for the light to disengage and drive 55 on the highway. i took it to the shop and there was no signs. i did a google search and realized this is a common issue with the jeep patriots. i have heard horror stories of families with little kids being stranded. please provide some sort of resolution to this eventually costly issue.

I had an inspection done and was told my jeep is not safe to drive! the subframe and crossmember is trash and could cause an immediate accident at any given moment. i went to chrysler dealership and they told me my warranty expired in june 2019 a few months ago. please recall this so it can be fixed and lives are not at stake.

When i try to fill the gas tank the fuel will gush back out towards me. the only way that i can get gas into the tank is to gently let it trickle in which takes for ever. i took it to a mechanic and he said this is a very common problem that a vent inside the gas tank is faulty and cannot be repaired. the fix is a new gas tank and about $800.00 after doing research i found that this is a very common problem with jeeps. seems to me that having gasoline flush back on you is a very dangerous situation. if you don't know this is going to happen the gasoline gushes out faster than the pump nozzle has a chance to shut it off. if this is so common why hasn't it been addressed? i don't know what kind of proof that i can send you other than a video which i'm willing to do but how do i send it? engine is off not running sitting at a gas pump.

Vehicle overheats in hot weather when driving for greater than 30 minutes. it is not the radiator but the transmission which overheats as indicated from the warning light. when this occurs, the vehicle shuts down and becomes inoperable until it is allowed to cool. this leads to the car dying on the middle of the highway or wherever you happen to be. this is a known problem which jeep needs to address.

The rear suspension crossmember has rusted out and failed on this vehicle. there are perforated holes in the subframe and rust all over this part. the underside of the unibody is in excellent condition. this is an obvious use of substandard steel or metal coatings for the part which led to its failure jeep needs to be held accountable for using substandard steel in its production which create a hazard to everyone on the roadways. if this was a toyota, they would replace it no questions asked even if it was out of warranty and there wasnt an nhtsa recall issued.

Major transmission failure prematurely. 2009 jeep patriot that will not shift from first gear or allow manual transmission options. vehicle drove fine. then when started an hour later vehicle would not shift.

I just purchased this car from a car lot with unknown issues sure enough a few weeks in i start to notice the jerking when i press the breaks and the hesitation to start as well and steering and noises coming from under the hood that auto shops could not figure out the reasoning behind. i need answered. i believe this car should have been on the recall list. there has to have been some king of mistake not putting it on there

The plastic part that holds the driver side mirror in the housing broke and made mirror unusable.

The airbag light and chimes constantly go on and off. i work a mile from home and the airbag light comes on and the chime sounds 10-15 per trip to work. the problem happens when the car is stationary or while driving any speed, and rain or shine.

We took our car in due to some noise & incidentally it was found to have dangerously rotted engine cradle. the rest of the car is not rusted out.

The heater core is clogging not letting antifreeze thru heater core has clogged numerous times. we have had to replace it, flush it, etc. in our vehicle, it blows warm/hot on drivers side but as you cross over vehicle it blows cold on passenger side. this is an expensive repair and shop has said this seems to be a design problem causing metal bits to collect and build up and block up the heater core. something is causing blockage. this has occurred over the last several years. the last time it was replaced was in 2015. i opted not to have it replaced again this time until we figure out the cause. please note that the service tech checked the blend door, the thermostat, and flushed the heater core. he said the heater core needs replacing again. this is almost $800 again on this part. i spoke with chrysler jeep to make sure it is documented but not sure what they do with this information. during the conversation their people were saying different things regarding how they monitor problems with vehicles and/or parts. to ensure that this defect is reported i am filing a complaint with the nhtsa. i would like for them to research what is causing this problem so that it does not occur in the future as well as if it becomes apparent that their is a design flaw or other in the heater core system or engine that proper action is taken. be it recall or other.

Tire dealer indicates that front lower control arms need replacing due to worn ball joints. the vehicle has approximately 47000 miles and is driven for family pleasure only. this is premature wear. all four tires wore prematurely. (in fact, the ball joint issue was discovered when the vehicle was in for tire replacement.) if the ball joints separate, control of the vehicle would likely be lost. the tire dealer recommended immediate replacement of the defective ball joints and to avoid driving the vehicle until repairs are made. there are many complaints on the internet about this (2007-2017) compass and patriot models. this is a safety issue! chrysler has issued a recall for defective lower ball joints on the 2004 jeep liberty. the same should be done here before a fatality occurs.

When accelerating the car occassionally would act like it wanted to go, then slowly start to shift to move. there would be a whining noise when slowing down, but no lights came on until 2 days before. the check engine light came on and the car stopped moving while i was driving down a rural road 2 days later. . 105k miles. . regularly serviced. .

Unable to fill the tank without the pump clicking off every 2 - 3 seconds, despite having tried multiple gas stations and pumps. mechanic advised there is a problem with the evap system and that the fuel tank will need to be replaced (possibly a faulty rollover valve on the tank). aside from the fact that is takes forever to fill the tank, i have to guess at when my tank is full and risk overfilling since i can't rely on the usual "click" of the pump. also, if it is a faulty rollover valve, i would consider this a pretty serious safety issue. i hope others experiencing a similar problem also file complaints here and with chrysler/jeep so a recall will be issued if needed.

Daughter's 2009 jeep patriot 4x4 50,000 miles shuts off after filling up with fuel. within a few minutes of fill up jeep shuts off and steering wheel locks up while driving. after letting car sit in the off position it will turn back on and may or may not repeat the same cycle depending on how long it is run before trying to proceed. only occurs when filling tank completely; no issues when not filling the tank maximum capacity.

Part involved is the crossmember (k-frame) p/n 68211659aa. a/c condensate drain is directly over the k-frame (engine cradle). the k-frame is perpetually wet and therefore corrodes. it is clearly a design flaw that creates a significant risk of catastrophic failure. if the k-frame fails at highway speed in traffic then there is likelihood of death or severe injury. jeep admits to a problem with the k-frame in the 2007 model year and extended the warranty to cover this defect. today i called jeep and they refused to even investigate the issue. they asked for my vin and told me it was out of warranty. no interest at all in even receiving photos of the defective part. my local dealer had three of these $634 parts in inventory... they must go through a lot of them. the only conclusion i can make is that jeep sees this defect as an opportunity to cash in -- to heck with the lives it endangers. i offered to bring the jeep patriot directly to their engineering center in auburn hills, michigan so that their engineers could see for themselves. the answer: not interested.

The subframe on this vehicle is rusted through this seems to be a problem on several chrysler product's dealership said it needs replaced but chrysler will not cover any portion of the cost this is a obvious safety defect with their product and should be taken care of my mechanic said when this breaks apart i will loose control of steering reading on several forums this is a wide spread problem with their vehicles a seven year old vehicle should not have major structural issues contacting chrysler customer assist was no help they said they would not help with the cost even after a chrysler dealership said it was rotted out and needs replaced before it breaks and cause's an accident i had read that they extended the warranty on the 07 model years because of this major defect now they need to step up and include the later model years i would encourage anyone looking at a chrysler product to do your research before buying

Little by little the electrical to my car has been going. im the first owner and first the front power windows, then the horn and then the lights stopped working. then my car started stalling out of no where when i would accelerate. they say its the pcm but i never abused and always took care of my car.

The engine frequently stalls after refueling, causing a loss of power steering, acceleration or deceleration. this starts after the issue with re-fueling that led to fuel nozzle kicking off at normal re-fueling speed for 4 fill-ups, which doesn't recur any more.

Bought car in nov with clean carfax - 5months later it seemed to have a fuel injection problem. on way to the dealer, car did not stall, but speed dropped to 30-35 mph on the highway (engine light came on) had to drive in breakdown lane with hazard lights flashing, and on exit ramp shoulder . trying to pull out into the driving lane on ramp- speed dropped to 5-10mph. - no acceleration.. car was hit by another vehicle just behind the front left wheel - the car was totaled...cause still unknown. note: correction by consumer - the speed did not drop... the car would not go over 35 mph .... believes it was also a transmission issue. *rmm

In april 2016 this 2009 jeep patroit failed the annual new york state safety inspection due to a severely rusted, unsafe frame crossmember under the engine. the owner is aware that chrysler/jeep recognizes this safety problem and in july 2014 issued an extended warranty (x58) to cover repairs to 2007 jeep patroits and others. this subject vehicle has the exact same corrosion issue but is not recognized by jeep as being part of the warranted population. the jeep customer service representatives fail to provide a creditable explanation for why a warranty cannot be extended to any vehicle that manifests the problem they have already addressed. this owner argues that jeep should provide for this repair from standpoints of ethics, creditably, safety, precedent, and promotion of future customer loyalty. this issue has been discussed with jeep customer agents (1-877-426-5337) and is assigned case #29134626. conformation of the cited defect can be verified by the servicing dealer: durocher chrysler sales, plattsburg, ny, 1-888-635-4599.

On 4/7/2016 my jeep patriot completely stalled after filling it with gas. after waiting an hour, the car started up again. i read on the jeep forums this is a common problem with jeep's fuel tank, however chrysler is unwilling to admit it and recall the part. this is a safety issue and not i'm scared to drive my car after getting gas for fear of losing power. i have a one year old son and fear for his life as well as mine.. please investigate and add me to the list of victims. thanks.

Front subframe is cracked and completely rusted out. this leading to movement in the lower control arms while stealing and breaking. the rust is really bad for a 2009 car and could lead to a failure while driving.

I purchased a 2009 jeep patriot in 2012. my sunroof and dome lights have been leaking/pouring water into my car, despite paying to have the jeep dealers "blow out" the now "too corroded tubes" more than 4-5 times in the past three years. i'm tired of dealing with the subsequent mold and dangerous electrical issues associated with the leaks; not to mention the awful smell and unsightly stains. i almost veered off the road when the stream started pouring out of my dome-light and nearly zapped my hand when trying to wipe off/block the radio, in the midst of the leak right before the radio shorted out, while driving/turning down a city street. when i braked to pull over, even more water came pouring through my light and onto the shifting area, air vents, and ignition. i quickly jumped out of the car and grabbed clothing and towels from my trunk (which i luckily happened to have that day) and began pressing the materials to the dome-lights. while doing so, i felt tapping on my shoulder and looked up to see that my entire roof surrounding the sunroof was soaked and dripping onto me and my seats. also, the back dome-light was leaking onto my back seats.... this was all on the way to work, during the busy traffic hours of the morning, and the leaks did not cease during my 40 minute, highway drive to work. i had to cover all of my seats and essentially the entire front console and dashboard, with trash bags and clothes to protect the interior of my car while in my office building. the leaks subsided by the time i was done working, but the interior of my car was soaked and the radio and lights did not turn back on for hours. there is now mold in both sets of dome-lights. this is not the first time these leaks have a occurred, obviously, but it was certainly a dangerous experience nonetheless.

Takata recall: use suv purchase in 2014 from korner ford. air bag light is coming on every 30 seconds for know reason. this should be covered under all warrenties as a safety hazard and not wear and tear. stationary in public parking lot as i started the ignition. has been on for 1 week as of to-date 03/31/2016. verbally told that i had bumper to bumper coverage. person is no longer there and my coverage is limited.

While performing other work on my 2009 patriot the mechanic discovered the "k" frame crossmember rusted out. this crossmember holds much of the vehicles suspension. this is a danger since this could eventually corrode enough to completely fail or buckle while driving. there certainly should not be this level of corrosion in a 2009 model car frame. this is a garage kept car from michigan

Vehicle suspension cradle is badly corroded and has large holes and is missing significant amounts of material. this was discovered during routine maintenance by an ase certified technician. the technician advises the vehicle cradle is close to total failure due to corrosion. a photo of the corroded cradle is attached. vehicle has 91,000 actual miles.

When driving my 2009 jeep patriot at approx. 25 mph, i heard a 'pop' sound from near the front driver side wheel. i visually inspected and it appeared part of my frame had cracked. i took it to a shop, and they told me that the entire subframe/crossmember/kframe had rusted through, entirely, as well as the control arms. i took it to a jeep dealer, and they confirmed. after contacting chyrsler and submitting a case, the dealer send digital images of the affected parts to chrysler. chrysler said there was nothing they could do since it was more likely than not corrosion from road salt. both the mechanic and the dealer told me the jeep was unsafe to drive. there was a recall of more than 130,000 2006 and 2007 jeep liberty's for this same issue (undercarriage corrosion due to salt). how can a company reasonably think it is acceptable for a 6 year old vehicle with approximately 85,000 miles to rust through an integral part of the body/structure? i have a family, and had this piece snapped while on the highway at a high rate of speed, i could have killed them and others. i had the vehicle fixed, but will be pursuing further action.

Took vehicle in to tire shop to replace tires. during inspection, it was noted that the lower right control arm was broken. while that may be common for a 5 year old vehicle, that should not be common for a 39k mi vehicle that has spent the majority of its life sitting in a driveway or garage. mechanics at shop stated that if it was not replaced, vehicle should not be driven over 40 mph due to an increased likelihood of wheel separation and damage to vehicle/persons in vehicle. replaced right lower control arm and all four tires, as well as right ball joint where control arm connects as recommended by shop. same issues are recurring again 13k miles later. issues include: loose steering, poor steering control over 55 mph, additional wear on front tires and brakes.

My abs, esp bas, and traction control lights went on on my dash showing that my vehicles safety features are disabled. i had just had the sensor module that controls these lights replaced back in december 2015 at an expense of $1266. now 7 months later and 6000 miles later the system is not working again. the dealership will not cover the repairs again under warranty and claim i will have to pay again to have the repairs made. who know how long this repair would last as the jeep parts are obviously defective and their are many more complaints on-line about them. there is no doubt that there are a lot of jeep owners driving around with their safety controls disabled because they can not afford these costly repairs...or can not afford to pay for them more then once! jeep should have to honor these repairs under warranty or recall the defective parts before someone gets killed!

This vehicle has been parked indoors for many years. now i park it outside. it leaks heavily after a rain through the dome light fixture and the head liner, this internal leak can short out the electrical system. this vehicle has a sunroof.

Jeep dealer indicates that control arms need replacing due to worn ball joints. the vehicle has approximately 40000 miles. this is premature wear. all four tires, perhaps relatedly, also wore prematurely. (in fact, the ball joint issue was discovered when the vehicle was in for tire replacement.) if the ball joints separate, control of the vehicle would likely be lost.

Had a very noticeable vibration while driving car. took into dealership and mechanic was able to stick his fingers through the "k" frame and noticed 3 giant holes in the frame from corroded metal. upon investigation it was noted that on 5-19-14 that the 2007 jeep patriot was recalled for the exact same thing (23-012-14) due to corrosion of the k frame which ended up extending the warranty indefinite. i contacted chrysler and explained my frustration with the situation and asked that since there was a recall for the same exact situation for the 07 if there was anything they could do for me. they proceeded to tell me there was nothing they could do because my year was not recalled even though it was the same issue. due to this i will have to buy a new vehicle on short notice due to the safety of driving my family in an unsafe vehicle i bought brand new 6 years ago. i feel that chrysler should take responsibility for something they documented as a problem even thought it "only affected" vehicles 2 years prior to mine instead of just ignoring the customer's concerns and worries. due to this i will never purchase another chrysler vehicle for the way the treat their customers. *tr

I have a 2009 jeep patriot at first my jeep starting to rev up and down then the jeep would jerk hard then speedometer needle would go from the speed i was going to zero to max it would do that a few times then it would not register at all after that my abs light would come on my esc light as well then my front brake would start to grab and lock the front end down, i work at a dealer ship so i unplugged the abs module and it drove fine no problem expect i have no speed odometer when i got to work i pulled the codes and it told me it was the left front wheel speed sensor so i ordered one and replaced the part and hooked my abs module back up test drove and checked codes all was fine later that after noon driving home from work i just pick up the kids from daycare it started to do it again this time when my brakes locked up it came to a dead stop i was going 55 mph on the highway i was able fight it to the side of the road and unplug the abs module again and drove fine went to work the next day pulled codes once more told me it was the right front wheel speed sensor this time i order an new and replaced it, still doing the same thing it keeps jumping back and forth between codes from left to right. i think it might be the abs module and those can get expensive. i would rather trade it for a kia before i pay that money. this issues could have killed or severely hurt me and my family my kids where in the car both time. *tr

This vehicle is total junk. i just replaced the under carriage that holds the engine up because it rusted out. this should not rust out for the lifetime of a vehicle. in addition, i have replaced the transmission, the alternator, the starter and the ball joints twice. the second time i replaced the ball joints was due to the under carriage rusting out. this vehicle is 5 years old and does not have 100,000 miles on it. i have repeatedly complained about this car to deaf ears even though the service tech at the dealership told me that he has replaced several alternators and under carriages on this vehicle, chrysler jeep does not acknowledge a defect. the under carriage is a safety hazard because if it breaks the driver will lose control of the steering. i firmly believe the jeep patriot is manufactured with inferior parts and chrysler jeep should recall these vehicles for the under carriage. i would not recommend this vehicle to anyone. i have put over $4000.00 in major repairs into this car.

My jeep came with a lifetime powertrain warranty at the time i purchased the jeep in april 2009. i was verbally told at the time of purchase to have the transmission checked before 50,000 miles. i have taken my jeep into a local dealership a few times over the last few years to have minor things repaired and for normal maintenance. at those times i asked the dealership to check the transmission so i could comply with the warranty. i took my jeep to the dealership again on 11/12/14 to get a minor problem fixed and i was told that my lifetime powertrain warranty had expired. i was told that since i did not bring my jeep into the dealership on the 5 year anniversary of purchase (april 2009 - april 2014) to have the transmission inspected, that i failed to comply with the terms of my warranty. i was not aware that i was required to bring my jeep into the dealership in april 2014 for the inspection. i was told that i could have it inspected anytime before 50,000 miles, which i did multiple times. i called chrysler and was told that they should have sent me a notice by mail. i never got such a notice. chrysler failed to properly notify me ahead of time to have my transmission inspected before april 2014. chrysler told me that it was all my fault for not thoroughly reading my owners manual. they denied having any responsibility in this. according to chrysler, it is not their responsibility to notify their customers about such things. it is the responsibility of the customer to read through the owners manual and remember to schedule service 5 years in the future. i am upset with chrysler over this. now my jeep does not have any warranty on the powertrain. chrysler has no concern for customer service. only about making and saving money at the cost of the consumer. by canceling my warranty, they avoided having to pay for any powertrain services i may have in the future. *tr

Tuesday, may 21, 2013 morning the jeep started to make noise at the front of the vehicle, so on wednesday, may 22, 2013 i took it to firestone in bridgeville for a second opinion. they advised that we have the suspension checked as well as the spring for the struts. they had advised that the car was safe to drive and passed their inspection. may 23, 2013 on my way to work and i stopped at a stop sign. water began to flow through my rear view mirror from the sunroof. at that time i hadn't touched the sunroof since the date of purchase. per jeep forums this is a constant hassle with the car. i was not given a choice in what i could have for a vehicle from the dealership due to credit issues. i had requested on 05/24/2013, a review of the warranty on the vehicle. i had the car less than a week and had to already take it back to the dealership. i took it to the dealership they had advised the noise i was hearing was a ?control arm clip that unlatched?; they verbally said that they took care of it. however from the point on i still could hear it. i would call [xxx] and he would say that the car was still drivable?. i didn't receive anything in writing from them. i check jeep for any recalls, but found nothing on my vin. so i decided to forget about it until this past may when my car was first inspected by kenny ross south. it passed emissions however they couldn't pass it completely. i had it recently serviced and the rotors control arms ball joints and struts need done. it's unreal, the car is a 2009. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Vehicle will stall with no/little warning. stalls generally occur during wet and/or humid weather conditions, however does also occur during dry conditions. stalls usually occur during idling while the vehicle is in gear (stopped at intersections or in traffic), but can also occur during initial acceleration from a stop. this issue has been occurring since early 2012 and is increasing in frequency. chrysler has a related recall (08v528000, "power train:automatic transmission:control module (tcm, pcm)"), which seems to exactly describe this failure, however chrysler claims that this specific vehicle is not included in the recall.

When i purchased the vehicle new in 2009, water came in through the map light and on the driver's side pillar after first rain. returned to dealer who replaced the seal but problem re-surfaced during next rain. went to another dealer who cleared the drain lines which seemed to fix the problem, although, for a new vehicle, it seems odd the drains would have been clogged. did not observe any electrical issues as others have indicated except for the led flashlight in the cargo area dying. this was replaced by died again (possibly the re-charging mechanism had been corrupted by the leak?) but i do not use the light so did not pursue further. winter of 2012-13 (after 3 year warranty had expired), same leak re-appeared whenever would have precipitation and freezing temperatures followed by a thaw. since it didn't occur during "normal" precipitation and being in the south where we don't have freezes very often, did not seek repair. quoted $100-$300 from all dealers in area saying the drain lines cannot simply be blown out with compressed air since the pressure can disconnect them and instead they must remove the head liner and clear them manually. while traveling in july of 2013, experienced heavy rain while vehicle parked level or facing up on an incline (at home, normally park slightly facing down on an incline) and leaks were much worse with driver's side head liner becoming wet. this indicated the rear drains were the ones clogged. i rarely use the sunroof, have never left it open for an extended period and especially avoid opening it during the heavy pollen seasons of the south, so i don't understand how the drains can get clogged and why they cannot easily be cleared (this seems like a design flaw). *tr

2009 jeep patriot. consumer writes in regards to vehicle sunroof design assembly flaw. *smd the consumer stated water was leaking from the sunroof area. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on 05/17/12. they repaired a seal at a cost of $ 212.93. the consumer discovered that his make, model and year had a design/assembly flaw that was addressed in a chrysler technical service bulletin. according to the bulletin, the sunroof assembly was not installed correctly which caused water to leak inside. the tsb gave specific procedures on how to fix the problem, and gave an estimate time of 13 hours to fix. the consumer stated the dealer did not follow the tsb; they merely repaired a seal. the consumer returned to the dealer. however, they claimed the sunroof was not leaking. the consumer returned a month later, and the dealer re-sealed the roof seams and adjusted the level and weather stripping. the following year, the consumer visited another dealer. that dealer stated the drain hose was not connected properly. the consumer stated he was unable to shift the vehicle out of park. the dealer stated a new computer was needed, which they installed at a cost of $ 1,405.32. the consumer did some research, and discovered someone else had the same problem and suggested, the fix was simply replacing a damaged wire. the consumer stated at the bottom of his invoice, the dealer replaced the wire, after discovering replacing the computer did not fix the problem.

The left front lower control arm needs to be replaced due to a worn ball joint. this was diagnosed by the jeep dealer. the vehicle has 39453 miles on it and this is premature wear. it appears this is a common problem on this and 2 other similar chrysler built cars. if the ball joint separates, control of the vehicle would be lost. *tr

Our 2009 jeep patriot has stalled out over 35 times since october of 2011 after moving from california to florida. the issue of the jeep patriot stalling out always occurs at an intersection while waiting for the light turn green. the stalling out issue is more likely to occur on most, humid days. however, it has occurred on dry, humid days and on a rare occurrence, at night. the vehicle manufacture, chrysler jeep and the dealership have no answer for the problem since it has been reported, but they mechanics don't know how to "fix" or "repair" the problem of the jeep patriot stalling. it has to do with the chrysler jeep corporate offices not sending out a repair alert to dealerships and also because the problem of stalling cannot register on their computer diagnostic tests. the safety of the 2009 jeep patriot is a concern with my family since stalling out can result in an accident or a low provability of being a fatal rear end accident. *tr

When filling the car with gas at the pump, it fails to shut off when full and pours from the tank nozzle neck and splashed down the side of the car as well as the individual filling the tank with gas. the only reason that the gas ceases to flow out of the tank is due the safety feature of the pump nozzle when it shuts down. after researching this problem online, i have learned that it is a common occurrence with this model jeep. the is not an occasional occurrence, but one which happens every time the car is filled regardless of how the pump nozzle is place in the filler neck.

The sunroof leak has been an ongoing problem since we bought the jeep, new. it's been "repaired" several times. they blow out the drain lines and tell us not to park near any trees. then i take it to the carwash and it leaks again. they tell us not to spray the water to direct at the roof. water gushing through my dome light has washed down through the dash console and now my hands free (u-connect) is malfunctioning. the service dept, charged me to look at it and supposedly fixed it. it's still does not work properly. all the console buttons are sticking. this problem started when the jeep had a warranty package. now that it's no longer under warranty, they charge me to "put a bandaid" on it and tell me stay out of the woods... with my jeep!!!! when is chrysler going to take responsibility for this? *tr

Driving on interstate highway ,low tire pressure warning flashed on dashboard, car pulled to the right, stooped car, looked for cause of flat, the valve stem was corroded, 1/4 of stem came off air leaked out flattened tire. it cost over one hundred dollars to repair, this is a major safety issue. *tr

The tpms on my 2009 jeep patriot indicated low tire pressure. when i took the cap off one tire to check the pressure, about 1/8 inch of the end of the valve stem was inside the cap. i could not check the tire pressure or add air. this is a safety issue. if the valve stem breaks while driving, it could result in quick loss of tire pressure. the jeep dealer will replace the vavle stem/tire pressure monitor unit for $115. i will save the old part. *kb

I have taken my 2009 jeep patriot to the dealer 2 times in the last 6 months, and for a 3rd time on monday. it leaks through my map lights and on the interior sides of my vehicle. i am concerned about the leakage on several levels! also because the leak runs down on my stereo. plus, this happens only when driving so i am worried about the water getting into my electric things while trying to drive!! there is also leakage discovered now in the rear gate! the dealer has "corrected" this twice now and hopefully will attempt it again on monday! *tr

Immediately after purchasing the 2009 jeep patriot an interior water leak was discovered. i have a receipt for visits to dealer on 11/3/09 with 2282 miles on it. next visit was 11/17/2009. another visit on 1/6/10 with 5790 miles on it. another visit on 9/14/10 at 12170 miles. yet another visit on 9/24/10 at 12435 miles. again on 12/7/10 at 14897. i know there were a couple of other visits and i am awaiting print out from service department. it has been to the dealer over 7 times for this problem. everytime they say it is fixed only to discover it is still leaking. they have sealed, caulked, check drain tubes, etc. they have replaced headliner too. water comes into the overhead electrical system and runs out of the overhead lights like a faucet or waterfall. water ponds on the rear cargo area and this area is completely soaked. water is even down in spare wheel storage. water comes from all overhead lights depending on pitch of vehicle. unknown if water is running down interior sides of vehicle or where else water is pooling. concerned about mold, rust, water damage, electrical problems, etc., that are being caused by water entering vehicle. dealership has "fixed" it numerous times only to not have it fixed. vehicle is scheduled for return visit to dealer for another attempt at fixing this problem. vehicle repairs have been covered by warranty but i am very concerned about the longterm damage and repairs needed after warranty expires and the damage the water is causing to my vehicle. service techs say don't worry about the water, but this is a serious problem. *tr

I purchased a new 2009 jeep patriot on 7/10/09 and paid cash. on 8/20/09 i took it to the dealership with 2,563 miles on it because water was pouring into the dash, radio, and onto me while driving after a rainy night. they adjusted sunroof glass and resealed open seams in sunroof fame and said it was fixed. on 9/10/09 i took it back to dealership with 3,316 miles on it for the same exact problem of water pouring from the dome light all over the dash, radio, and me again after another rainy night. they replaced sunroof glass weatherstripping and said it was fixed again. on 11/17/10 after a very long hard rain i took it back to dealership with 18,706 miles on it with water pouring from the dome light and from the rear dome and from the passenger side rear door area. the carpet was soaked and the dome light had stopped working. they repositioned drain tubes and replaced sunroof glass and seal. in the process they broke our headliner but agreed to order another one for us. on 12/14/10 after another hard rain i took it back to dealership with 19,604 miles on it with water pouring from headliner at the passenger rear door area and soaking the carpet. while at dealership they installed a new headliner which does not fit properly by the windshield. they claimed that they could not make the roof leak on that visit. they lost two of the plugs that went into the headliner, causing us to have to make an extra trip to their shop. my wife and i have really been put out with all this. chrysler's solution is for us to upgrade to a new higher priced chrysler product. i hope that all of the moisture doesn't create a mold hazard for our infant grandchildren that ride in this vehicle. i have smelled a musty smell from time to time. *tr

After going through a car wash water started pouring out of my interior map lights (dome lights). a quick search online for jeep water leak dome lights resulted in 760,000 matches. there are thousands of blogs/websites/forums all referring to this same error. after heavy rains or water exposure (e.g. car wash) the water leaks through the interior dome and map lights. many sites indicate the manufacturers reluctance to make the repairs and treat the situation as though they have no prior indication of problems. with thousands of websites and so many people reporting the dealers are reluctant to repair this obvious design flaw, i am left wondering how many many people have to report this water leak to the manufacturer before something is done to correct it (voluntary or mandatory recall). fortunately i am still under warranty but i am not looking forward to arguing with the dealer over something that is clearly a known issue.

Tl*the contact owns a 2009 jeep patriot. the contact heard a noise in the front end of the vehicle whenever he drove it. the noise was intermittent at first but became progressively worse over time. in addition to the noise, the vehicle would pull while the contact was driving. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer several times where the bushings, a sensor, front strut and a lower ball joint were replaced. the failure continued to occur. the dealer could not figure out what was causing the failure. the contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. the current mileage was approximately 46,000. the failure mileage was approximately 10,000.

I had to replace the front ball joints on my 2007 jeep and it cost me over $700. my car is 4 months past factory warranty and only has 23,000 miles. i feel jeep should pay for this repair as the ball joints should not fail after only 23,000 miles

When front seats are pushed back fully there are razor sharp metal rails exposed. there are plastic covers installed that are equally sharp and catch on soes, clothing and skin. both my husband and i have drawn blood on our shins several times. i have attempted to resolve with jeep and they advise there is nothing they can do. *tr

Repeated hesitation, and popping out of gear. this vehicle has a manual transmission, the transmission has already been replaced once for the issue, but problem continues. the gear shifter pops out of first gear, and makes a loud noise when doing clutch and gas from a stand still. the gas pedal, and engine response lags, and bucks on occasion, with out setting a code. these combined make pulling into traffic dangerous. *tr

I purchased a 2009 jeep patriot on august 1st and after it rains i have water pouring from the dome light as i approach a stop sign. well, i nearly ran into some one due to the water raining down on me. i have googled the problem and to my dismay, numerous people have had this problem to the point of enacting state lemon laws. this is a problem that really needs attention. *tr

2009 jeep patriot water collects in the rear inside dome light and leaks out onto the interior floor. occurs when it rains and when having the vehicle washed. somehow water gets into the interior rear light. dealer has no clue as to why this is happening. vehicle is now at dealer for investigation and hopefully at solution. previous returns to the dealer resulted in applying silicone around the small hose and opening surrounding it in the ridge above the tailgate opening. lifting the tailgate exposes the area where the gate meets or overlaps the vehicle. while this may not be considered a "safety" hazard, it is very disheartening to buy a brand new vehicle only to find it leaks when it rains. worse yet, no one seems to know why or where the water is coming from. it could pose a safety issue if the water gets to the electrical system...as already seems to have taken place...the light belongs to the electrical system. one of my fears leaving it to be investigated is that the parts removed to find the leak may not go back as good as new. *tr
