2010-11-08	EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:NAVIGATIONAL SYSTEM(GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)	VOLVO IS RECALLING CERTAIN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH GARMIN 760 PORTABLE GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM (GPS) UNITS BECAUSE THE BATTERIES ON THOSE UNITS MAY OVERHEAT. Remedy: VOLVO ADVISES OWNERS TO PLEASE STOP USING THE GARMIN PORTABLE GPS DEVICE IMMEDIATELY, AND VISIT THE GARMIN WEBSITE TO DETERMINE IF THEIR UNIT IS AFFECTED. THE UNIT’S BATTERY WILL BE REPLACED WITH A NEW BATTERY AND A SPACER WILL BE INSERTED ON TOP OF THE BATTERY NEXT TO THE PCB. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. 2006-04-28	VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER	ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, IF THE WIPER ARM IS ACTIVATED IN EXTREME WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS AND WITHOUT LIFTING THE WIPER ARMS AND CLEANING THE WINDSHIELD PRIOR TO MOVING, THE WIPER ARM MIGHT SLIP ON ITS DRIVESHAFT, RESULTING IN AN INABILITY TO MOVE THE WIPERS FROM THE PARK POSITION. Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE WIPER ARMS AND RETAINING NUTS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 5, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VOLVO CARS AT 1-800-458-1552.
2006-05-05	STEERING:LINKAGES:TIE ROD ASSEMBLY	ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES,THE OUTER TIE ROD BALL JOINT CAN DEFORM AT HIGH LOADS CAUSING A LOSS OF THE CLAMPING FORCE AND THE NUT MAY LOOSEN, WHICH MAY EVENTUALLY LEAD TO A FATIGUE FRACTURE OF THE OUTER TIE ROD BALL JOINT. Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE OUTER BALL JOINT TIE RODS WITH IMPROVED OUTER BALL JOINT TIE RODS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 23, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VOLVO AT 1-800-458-1552.

We purchased this vehicle on July 19, 2010. On July 30, 2010 we experienced the first problems. First we discovered that our signal light was stuck in the on position, came on by itself, no one in the car and then turned off by itself. Later that day while driving the car we experienced multiple warnings from the computer system. These consisted of brake failure-stop safely, anti-skid service required, and engine service required. We were on vacation at this point, but took it to the nearest dealership. They checked the car and stated that it was a computer "glitch" and that nothing was wrong. Two days later, August 31, 2010 when attempting to return home from vacation the vehicle became inoperable. We received multiple warnings once again stating anti-skid service required, engine failure, brake failure, engine immobilizer at this time while the vehicle was in motion in a rain storm, we lost use of many of the electircal functions. This loss included both the radio and windshield wipers which posed a great danger in the rain with our children in the car. Once we stopped, the car would no longer crank. We then had the vehicle towed to the closest dealership, Beach Volvo in Myrtle Beach, SC. We were forced to extend our stay by one night and purchase a rental car (these expenses were covered by Volvo on Call). With the help of Volvo of Charlotte, where we purchased the vehicle, we were able to get home and received a loaner car from them. Our vehicle was fixed in Myrtle Beach, rechecked in Charlotte and then returned to us on August 6, 2010. On August 7, 2010 (less than 24 hours) we began experiencing the same problems again. Our first sign was a large popping noise in what seemed to be in the radio speakers while the radio was turned off. We then received a warning that stated anti skid service required. We returned home immediately and later witnessed additional messages including brake failure service required, engine service required, power system service urgent, transmission service required, fuel hatch unlocked. Also the check engine light, abs light, airbag light, and battery light were all on. At this time the car was also chugging during idle and we were unable to smoothly shift gears. The air conditioner was not cold and there was a loud popping noise coming from the rear of the car. The car was towed to Volvo of Charlotte who replaced the alternator. We picked up our car on Saturday, August 14th. Later that day we discovered that one of our keys would not crank the car. This key had previously worked. Sunday, August 15th at approximately 9 am we discovered that the brake lights were on, no one was in the car and had not been near it all night. The brake lights would not go off and were still on until sometime after 9 pm. We drove the car a short distance to see if there were additional problems. At this time we received messages stating brake failure – stop safely, anti skid off, engine service required, check engine lights, abs lights, air bag lights were all on. The car went into a safety limp mode and was driven home. At this time speedometer and tachometer did not work. Once again the transmission would not shift smoothly and made loud clunking noise when shifted. Once again we called to have car towed to Volvo of Charlotte. During each occurance the car would crank at times and not at others.
