2004 HONDA Odyssey

My transmission gear teeth r gone or my transmission locked up in middle of driving home one night with my daughter n it revd up n wouldn\'t go forward and started burning atf and I had to roll back n thankfully back it into driveway to get it out of the road! Very scary and lucky myself and child were not crashed into due to the all of sudden no power an burning up transmission!! it will start but it will not move in any gear my tires don\'t dont even spin an my transmission was burning up!And the car history report I purchased for my oydessey based on Vin # lists 9recalls with 1 of them being the transmission recall!Now my Honda.com Vin recall results lists 5 recalls total and compared to my Vin based vehicle history report recall list both match up for all the same recalls EXCEPT transmission recall which isn\'t listed on Honda\'s recalls list but every other recall listed on my history report list all matched Honda\'s list just conveniently the most important and most expensive recall wasn\'t so they say they can\'t fix or anything as a recall bc it isn\'t listed under there Vin search!! Clearly I have 04 oydessey an my Vin lists 5 recalls n just 04 oydessey recall search comes up with 8 recalls for my year van an 2 of the 8 r both tansmission recalls so out of 7different recalls my Vin has 5 that\'s only 2 less from the list of all of 04 oydessey!!but yet they wont fix it a recall!as if it\'s impossible my van should have been on the transmission recall!

The paint peel began small and got serious and then really shocking as time went by. The photos here are as of today. I had the car down for service about six months ago and they shrugged and said they didn\'t handle paint. I read that there was a serious problem with Honda paint jobs during the 2003-2005 era; that it had to do with the primer or something.

This has caused my car to be unsaleable. The miles are not huge for this age car, and it works well enough for me to want to keep it. But day by day it becomes more and more embarrassing. It\'s a junker!

Look. I am a senior living on, literally, a net income of less than $1000/month. My car is a luxury, with service and insurance and plates. But it\'s my last resort as transportation!

I have to sell it soon. My insurance expenses alone are enough to drown me.

Honda SHOULD BE EMBARRASSED to have their product looking like this on the roads. I saw another of the same model, color, year — just lke mine– just last week that was peeling just like this.

Will Honda respond to keep its good name? Disgruntled, and scared, to be honest. 79 year old driver dependent on vehicle.

Transmission failed the first time at around 60k miles. We replaced it — not at a Honda dealer — with a Jasper(?) model. Failed again a few days ago, at 107k. My wife and two children were on stuck on I-95, during rush hour, for several hours, waiting for the truck. Dealer wants $4500 to repair. Car is only worth about $2000 if running (based on the bb value), and the dealer would only give us $300 for the car. We are giving up. I’m donating to charity. Ugh. We took care of this care. I expected it to last at least another 60k miles.

The paint on my Odyssey has been coming off in sheets for a few years now. Honda refused to cover even the parts that were protected under the service warranty extension, back in 2011, because I was too late. Well now, more body parts (ones that were specifically denied in the warranty) are peeling. How does a company get away with this? A total failure for the primer.

Paint is peeling terribly on my 2004 Navy Blue Odyyssey. I got an out of pocket estimate for the hood where there is the most peeling and that was $800.00. The paint peeling is not limited to hood. Van only has 110,000 miles. Never received any information on recall for the paint.

driving down on a hill at about 45 miles I felt the transmission down shift to low gear, going down the hill the RPM sound I could hear was high. The transmission never shifted back to normal gear until I actually slowed down under 25 miles. I had a transmission flushed on 03//13/13 due to contamination stated by the dealer. when I told the dealer about the problem with the shifting they told me that it is due for a new transmission and that it is a matter of time till it breaks down. estimated cost 7,000 dollars.

The midnight blue paint is peeling near the back windows. If it is not repaired, the paint will begin to peel up towards the roof.

I was driving down the road 2 weeks ago and all of a sudden my 2004 Odyssey van seemed as though it did not have any power and the tires did not have any traction. Two lights popped on the dash (check engine light and traction light). I pulled over to the closet service station and looked under the hood. I didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. I pulled out my manual and it stated the gas cap may not be tight, so I took the gas cap off and tightened it as tight as I could. The lights did not go out, so I turned around and drove back home as slow as possible. I took the vehicle to Honda and I just got a call back today after 2 weeks of them having my car that I need a transmission and the cost is $5,000 but they will cover $3,100 and my part is $1,900. I purchased this car brand new. My back passenger window on the driver side stopped working a few years ago. The power door stopped working when I first got the car, but it was under warranty so they did the repairs on it. My audio system which has an interior dvd player had to be replaced twice when I first purchased the van. I purchased a 100,000 mile extended warranty, which ended 30,000 plus miles ago. The funny thing is I rarely drive the van and all service on my van have been done by the local Honda dealership.

Honda recalled the midnight blue painted vehicles because of a paint defect. However, I did not receive a recall notice. A few years later a private car repair shop told me about the recall. When I went to my local Honda dealer they said that it was too late for them to honor the recall and repair the paint at no charge to me. I explained that I had not received a recall notice, but they said that was not their problem.

Softball sized areas of paint have come off the hood. You can see the original body color. Pain is flaking off of the window well on the side of the car as well.

my mechanic told me that I have a code of PO730 & that this means that I have broken teeth/gears & that this transmission should not have had this issue for a 2004. It is the same thing that there was a recall for 2004 vans made in a different location. i have researched this & there are others that have had this issue & I was told at Honda that my van wasn’t included yet.

I have a honda minivan that has the paint peeling on the hood and the clear coat is peeling on the drivers side passenger sliding door. I contacted my local honda dealership where the car was purchased and also american honda. They both have refused to do anything to rectify the problem.

Clutch burned out at less than 100k miles. Was rebuilt and now in Oct, 2011, at 120k miles, the transmission has developed shifting problems with the flashing D and TCS and engine warning lights coming on. Have replaced the oil pressure switches and the Solenoids but still not working properly.

While driving on the Ohio turnpike at 70 mph, the engine raced and the rpm display was almost to 6. There was smoke that came out of the engine. The racing stopped and the engine returned to normal. The smoke continued for some time. We took it to our normal repair place and they said we have a transmission leak and the transmission needs repair. We haven’t gotten an estimate yet for the repairs.

transmission failure, car shakes when driving. I understand the 2004 was part of a recall for transmission problems but we were never notified of such recall.

The transmission on our minivan failed even after having been supposedly "fixed" by a recall back in 2005. Clearly a transmission should not fail at 67,000 miles. Honda needs to man up and finally admit that the recall did not fix the problem.

Transmisson burned up, improper cooling, there was a recall on this year model, but Honda claims that my VIN was not included in this recall. The recall was for the very thing that happend to my transmisson. Basically my family and I were going down the road at 65 mph when all of the sudden it was if someone had thrown the van in neutral. Luckly there was not much trafic around us and we were able to get to the side of the road.

Transmission failed at 88,000 miles and Honda customer service takes no responsibility and is making no attempt to resolve the situation. My transmission failed despite always having the vehicle serviced at the dealer, having the transmission fluid flushed and replaced at 61,000 miles (14,000 miles early) and having the towing package dealer installed (transmission cooler). Honda indicates that the transmission was repaired back in 2004 as part of recall ID#43789 Honda recall number 04V-176. However, this recall service was never done as evidenced by my car having no A/T Oil Jet Kit installed and no center punch on engine VIN plate as required by recall 04V-176. I also noticed NHTSA service bulletin number: 08-040 item number: 10025523 "Load Carrying capacity reduced for all Honda vehicles" and would like to know how this may impact my claim. I would appreciate any advice or assistance. I am interested in class action, but only if I cannot get the situation resolved by my own legal action.

The struts or hatch pistons failed on our 2004 honda odyssey and the hatch weighing well over 100 pounds came down on my head full force. this defect should be addressed. serious injury will occur with head and neck injury and if a smaller child in the path maybe worse. honda is charging us to fix the problem. i strongly suggest this be a subject for a recall. they should not fail after two years. *jb

The srs light comes on indiscriminately. concerned about the air bag and safety relating to it. it could happen driving or while its stationary. secondly the yellow check engine light is constantly on. fuel system leak according to a tech. he said it wasn't worth fixing. thirdly, the door lights and rear courtesy brake light comes on occasionally, but then goes off.

I own honda odessy since 09/ 2017. i replaced timing belt with one year warranty, because the previous owner did not do it. 12/09/16 i took my honda odessy 2004 to manhattan honda dealership for recall. i asked to honda representative to check and tell me what is necessary to replace or repair. i knew that transmission recall for honda odessy 2004 was open and told them to check and repair it if it is necessary, but they refused to do it they told me that my honda has many issues and repair all necessary things will cost me $10000. the fuel pump, timing belt, which i already replaced, and transmission clutch was included in the repair list. last month i had a very bad experience when driving this car. it was loosing power and stopping when i was driving. it was dangerous for traffic. it occur on very dangerous spats, like exits from hgway, brooklyn bridge etc., i could start up car in 5 minutes and it was drawing with no problems then. it was a few times like this and the last time i drove home and couldn't start up the car no more. i towed car to repair shop and mechanic told me that my fuel pump needs to be replaced. i came home and started research and found the recall for honda odessy fuel pump, for honda odessy that was built on and after 06/21/04 is on recall for fuel pump repair or replace. my honda odessy was built 06/2004 i replaced the fuel pump and car is running very good now and i do not have this problem again. because i had the fuel pump problem after my car was on recall, and because they knew that fuel pump replace was included in recall, and they knew that my car has this problem and did not fixed it i am hereby asking the honda dealership to reimburse money that i spent on fuel pump repair $653.03. i also asking honda dealership to check again a transmission and repair it, if it is necessary.

Paint began peeling sometime but not noticeably until a year ago. when serviced at a honda dealer, they shrugged and said they didn't handle paint. the damage has increased greatly (see photos) and rust is beginning to be visible. the paint flakes off while i drive. i cannot sell the car in this shape. honda's undercoat is blamed in research i have made. i have always trusted honda, but am alarmed and unable to believe this is happening. want to sell this car back to honda for blue book price.

I took my vehicle in to the service department to have a recall performed. they were to replace the srs electronic control unit replaced. when i took the vehicle in there were no warning lights on. after they completed the recall my srs warning light is on. the light has never been on in the 10 years that i have owned the vehicle. so as it turns out i took a car with no problems in to the dealer to have a recall performed and they returned a defective car to me. they refuse to fix whatever they did to cause the srs malfunction light to come on and stay on.

Srs light is on.dealership is charging a diagnostic fee and possibly more changes thereafter. anything related to seat belts is supposed to have a lifetime warranty.

Takata recall. we received a safety recall notice from honda in june 2016 regarding a problem with our passenger frontal airbag inflator. the notice said honda would replace the airbag inflator free of charge. the nhtsa recall number is 16v-344. beginning on july 7, 2016, i tried several times to call my local honda dealer (ourisman honda in bethesda, md) to schedule an appointment for the replacement. however, they have refused to call me back to schedule an appointment. i called american honda's customer service number to file a complaint and no one called me back. both american honda and their dealer (ourisman honda) have failed to remedy this defect within 60 days of the date that i first contacted the dealer for a repair appointment (july 7, 2016).

On 8/25/2016 i took my 2004 odyssey to anderson honda at palo alto for normal oil change. after the work was done they showed me that the oil drain plug would not torque down to specs (just spins). the oil was leaking from the oil pan. anderson honda's service advisor denied that they over-torqued the plug. the mileage was only 67637, the plug had been taken off and put on for only about a dozen times and it’s the original honda part in very good condition. before the oil change there was nothing wrong with my car and during the last time maintenance at another honda dealer the car was checked with everything ok. on 8/29/2016 i took my car to victory honda at san bruno to fix the problem. the oil pan was replaced. the old oil pan showed the screw in the oil pan was damaged by the steel plug. the cause of this problem could be: 1 anderson honda's technician over-torqued the plug and damaged the oil pan. but they claimed that they are honda official dealer and they didn't over-torqued it. 2. honda's parts or designs have defect. they should not put steel plug onto a soft metal pan directly. i think the cost of replacing damaged oil pan should be paid either by anderson honda or honda of america. the customer should not pay for their fault. the safety issue of this type of problem is oil leaking (harmful to our environment), engine failing on the road if damaged plug falls off. thank you very much for investigating this issue. i do appreciate all your helps. The drivers seat all of a sudden rocks back and forth and is not stable. i removed the side panel and could see the metal bracket that is riveted to the seat holding frame broke - metal actually cracked on it. the vehicle was stationary when problem started.

There is a serious problem with the rear bumpers rusting away with no way of knowing. my family rode around in this car for maybe 2-3 years with a bumper that had rusted so badly it was literally falling apart, but remained inside of the bumper cover, so we did not know it. finally it rusted so badly that it began to leave rust stains on the driveway and i traced it to this problem. by this time the bumper was almost gone. it probably past the point of providing any protection maybe 2 years ago. this car has a rear facing seat and is used often. it terrifies me to know a rear end collision at practically any speed would have been far worse then it should have been and probably impacted the fuel tank, again, at far lower speeds than it would normally. my search on the internet shows this is not an isolated issue, there are plenty of people complaining about this. in my opinion this needs to be checked out on all odyssey's. people are driving around thinking they are protected and probably aren't. a rear collision could result in death due to the gas tank being left unprotected and rear passengers exposed to serious injuries at much lower speeds. i do not live in an area with lots of salt water or salted roads, there is not a rust issue anywhere else, this seems to be isolated to just the rear bumper.

The metal bracket that is riveted to the front driver seat securing it to the frame snapped. the bottom of the seat is loose and in a collision the seat would not hold the driver in a fixed position.

Transmission failure occured when driving in rt 5 freeway past glendale and 134 junction, car was running in about 60 miles speed and came abrupt stop (loss of drive/pull in a very dangerous way). managed to push it to breakdown lane. then upon turning off the engine and after a while i could drive a bit to park in internal road. i then towed the car. later, i drove in internal road. same problem occurs. when placed in automatic drive (d) vehicle runs for few miles and suddenly fails to run and stops. changing gear doesn't help. when ignition is turned off and on back again, it works again for a mile or two and shows same problem. when problem occurs, it doesn't move in any gears. researching in internet, honda 2004 odyssey transmission failure occurring at 117,000 miles was reported all over the internet. as if it was programmed by honda, this mini van too failed at 117k miles. some owners have claimed (including youtube videos) that honda is aware of this problem and have taken care of the repair at no cost. some also claim that honda has secret warranty to cover this problem and had availed the repair free of cost .this is a know problem to honda. honda must repair for free and do the justice to consumers. this is indeed fatal too.

Good evening, i am filing a complaint against american honda motor co. last year, the manufacturer failed to remedy the ongoing automatic transmission recall 04v-176. braman honda in miami, florida did not inspect the transmission as required and lied on their work order that the transmission is bad. the service department took 7 hours with my van. please see attached. my transmission was in working condition when it taken to the service department last year. i am currently experiencing the issues that the recall warns that may happen due to the ongoing gear issues. last week, while i was driving on the highway, my van's transmission locked up and i almost had an accident. fortunately, i was able to drive it home safely. i rely on my van for work therefore this matter is affecting us financially. my wife recently called the manufacturer's recall hotline and spoke with lisa. the rep advised that i will have to tow my van and pay out of pocket, for the service department to evaluate this issue. since the manufacturer failed to remedy this recall last year, i am requesting the following: i would like for an engineer or mechanic to be dispatched to our home and check the transmission. once the matter is assessed, then i can pay out of pocket for my vehicle to be towed to a nearby authorized honda dealer for service. lisa explained to my wife that there is a 50/50 chance that this transmission recall issue will actually be repaired which is unacceptable. i currently live in florida which is the third state with the highest amount of covid-19 cases therefore this would be the most feasible option. last year's case with the manufacturer was closed prematurely even though my wife advised it was still ongoing. with that said, due to braman honda's negligence, i am currently without a vehicle since it is unsafe to drive it in this condition. thank you. *js

I had 2000 honda odyssey in 120000 mile had check engine on with code 0740 the mechanic told me is better to sale it then i buy honda odyssey 2004 after 5 months with 137000 mile have the same code and check engine on i love honda car but it seems there is a part in transmission it is not working properly can you explain to me what should i do ?

Bracket holding seat to body of vehicle snapped. appears to be manufactured incorrectly. failure occurred while driving down the road causing the seat to suddenly jerk and fall.

My dad recieved a letter in the mail saying he has to make an appointment to fix the airbag and the web sites are not even helping him make an appointment.

Our drivers side plastic mold has completely broken the seat frame has also broke causing this to be a huge safety issue. if i am rear ended, this seat will have no way to prevent me from being thrown backwards! the seat is wobbly and unsafe to drive! i have read many more complaints with this same issue! please issue a recall!

After the sliding door on the driver side stopped working, we was still able to switch off the switch and open/close it manually a few times. the following morning trying to do the same thing it only opened halfway and then wouldnt latch closed as i tried the second time to get it to latch closed the whole door just fell off track. luckily it happened sitting in my moms driveway. i would hate to have seen what would had happened had i been driving when it came off since my 4 year olds seat is right there.

I received a letter from honda automobile division informing me of the recall, and stating in the letter "free rental cars are available to the vehicle owner for the day of the recall repair, or longer if a replacement part is temporarily unavailable." i called a local honda dealer to arrange the recall repair and was informed they don't offer the free rental car service. i called honda automobile division to enquirer about this service. they took my information and will have an answer for me within 24-48 hours i can expect a callback with an authorization service. the way the letter is worded implies a free rental is available, no where in the letter does it stipulate upon dealer approval, or any fine print indicating any stipulations around the free car rental. from the letter, i expect a loaner while repairs are performed, yet honda has to authorize this. the dealer informed me to bring the letter in with me but i can't take the time to travel there in case i'll be denied a rental. my job requires i travel periodically, and if such arises while my vehicle is being repaired under the recall, i will need a loaner. i will be happy to provide a scan of the letter if needed but unfortunately we don't have a scanner at work.

The van is going backward when you put it in drive and when you press it does not go forward it just revs up the gas. the car was in motion driving when it went from driving to reving the gas and not going forward.

Our 2004 honda odyssey driver side seat broke from the bracket. the welds that hold the seat to the bracket broke causing the seat to start tilting and wobbling while we were driving down the road. this is a safety issue due to the fact that it is possible to loose control of the vehicle while driving increasing risk of collisions.

Automatic transmission broken down

The sliding passenger doors continue to fail to open electronically and are extremely difficult to open if they do not open electronically. this can be an issue for passengers in the event of an accident as everyone would have to climb out the front doors. the doors can only be opened electronically when stationary. when attempting to open manually, doors can only be opened a few inches.

Need a recall to be issued by nhtsa or proper gov organization. the passenger seat belt tensioner and the buckle were replaced after the srs light was illuminated. now the driver-side buckle and seat belt tensioner is causing a problem and srs light is on again. honda is using delay tactics. want to scan the car for $100 to re-confirm the same problem even though the car was scanned in the prior week! srs light stays on after engine start (obviously stationary)

Corrosion within the fuel pump wiring connector and the fuel pump retaining nut was cracked / broken. customer complaint was stalling while driving, no start condition. troubleshooting procedure indicated the fuel pump wiring connector was faulty the inspection revealed that the connector was corroded apparently from moisture. this issue is certainly a safety concern considering the faulty connection can cause loss of engine power -> loss of power steering, and the faulty fuel pump nut can cause gasoline fumes to escape containment which may lead to an explosion / fire. if the connector was jiggled the fuel pump would intermittently operate and or fail. the local honda dealer refused to recognize the safety recall campaign # 04v42000 or the honda service bulletin #04-049, and refused to mitigate the problem without offering the option to repair the issue outside of the recall which would cost the customer $454.32 for the fuel pump repair kit in addition to service fees of at least $374.00. the vehicle was initially towed-in and presented for service on june of 2018. the honda dealer is providing wiring harness, retaining nut and gasket at a cost to the customer.

Nhtsa recall 04v176000 does not include our vin, but it should, because this is the problem that has occurred with our vehicle 3 times now. the transmission has overheated and failed. and according to 04v176000, transmission overheating is a serious hazard that can cause loss of control of the vehicle!!! the first time it happened, i was driving on a 2-lane highway. the second time it happened, my wife was driving it on hwy 80 towards reno. the 3rd time it happened, she was driving at about the same place i was, on 41 north. it always happens on a medium to long trip going up an incline. others have reported this as well, so much that there is a site dedicated to this very problem -- odysseytransmission.com. if you visit this website you can see the definite difference in proportion of complaints for the earlier generations vs the later. it appears there is a design flaw that causes fluid flow constriction during torque converter lock, which results in overheating. in the last incident, as described by my wife, she was driving up 41, and the engine went up to around 4000 rpm. the car slowed down and she smelled transmission fluid burning. she had to wait on the side of the road for a while, and then it started to work again. she got it to a safer place and then let it cool for longer. she was able to get it to go home, which was a couple miles away, and we have not driven it since. we had this transmission rebuilt by shaws auto sales 2 times. the most recent time was less than 1 year ago. we have not done any abnormal driving, or any towing, or anything. just normal driving. so we expected the fix to last longer than this. sound like a reasonable expectation? we have been lucky that we didn't lose control of the vehicle. but others might not be so lucky! this vin and others like it should be included in 04v176000.

While driving my 2004 honda odyssey would completley stahl without any warning, just shut off.. i got the fuel relay replaced and it still stahled numerous times but started back up soon after.. almost causing numerous accidents just stopping while driving.. now my van has stahled and this time it will not restart. i have looked up recalls and found one that made sense for a 2004 honda odyssey for a fuel pump wire thst has corrosion causing the car to stahl. my vans vin doesnt fall under this recall....???

I am very, very disappointed in the treatment i have received as a honda owner. i own a 2004 honda odyssey. the seatbelt randomly stopped working and they are refusing to fix it under the lifetime warranty. i have been driving hondas my entire adult life. corporate made me jump through hoops to gather my registration information from 2000! they said if i could show loyalty to the brand they would fix it under the "good will program." they say the car was wreck before i bought it and that is what messed up the seatbelt. however, i purchase the car in 2013. it has been working for 5 years and then randomly goes out because of an accident more than 5 years ago?! where is the logic?!!! well, showing that i previously owned a honda accord wasn't good enough for corporate to correct their mistake, because i didn't have it serviced at a honda dealership. i was living in bfe mississippi at the time. how was that my fault? the honda dealership in rockwall, texas is a joke. they determined they weren't going to fix it right off the bat. upon further research, it seems honda skimps out on seatbelts. this is where they cut costs. i had never had a major problem with a honda up until this point. this isn't fixing something that is no big deal: like the speaker that fades in and out or the locks that don't always unlock together. this is my life they are playing with! it is disgusting! do not buy honda! i never will again. toyota wouldn't treat a life long customer like this.

I stopped behind a car waiting to merge from a parking lot to highway 193. the car ahead pulled out a little. then apparently changing his mind, he backed up into me. i had not pulled forward, but he still totaled my car. surprisingly, my airbags did not inflate. the collision bent my hood, cracked the grill, broke the bumper.

I was turning right into a parking spot and had my foot on the brake the whole time. when i was more than halfway in the spot, the engine revved and the car plunged forward going over the concrete barrier and into a pole. the airbags did not deploy and thankfully everyone was ok. the officer investigating the crash insisted that my foot must have slipped off the brake pedal but i am positively sure that my foot was on the brake the whole time as it was still on the brake when the car came to a stop after hitting the pole. witnesses to the crash confirmed that i was traveling very slow as i pulled in the parking spot and that they heard the engine rev and the car accelerated very fast over the barrier and into the pole.

Transmission slipping while driving on city street - transmission needs to be replaced

This is about trying to get our recall fixed at hennessy honda in woodstock ga. they are not fixing the recall unless it's within 10-3 m-f and this is the only place within 40 minutes. here what happened: i recently received a recall notice about my airbags. i live in cherokee georgia and just called my local dealer who i've had great experiences with with previous recalls and getting it fixed on the weekend. when i called this time they told us that they couldn't look up the recall on their computer and that they don't do recalls on the weekend. after we explained our working schedule isn't condusive for any weekdays and that they fixed it last time. he said there is absolutely no way to fix the recall on the weekend and if they we don't like it go somewhere else. i've never had anyone tell anyone that "many people have jobs and kids and if you can't get here then that's your bad parenting." all we want to do is get a recall for a defective product, not call someone and be insulted.

I've been a loyal honda customer for 20 years but will never purchase a vehicle again from hennessey honda. we received a recall saying my airbags can arbitrarily deploy. with 2 little children, this is disturbing to me. i call saturday morning right after i get notice (hennessey honda) i'm told to call monday through friday and no one can help me on the weekend. i state that i work and that is difficult to do and don't they a service center open on the weekends to fix it and she said no. i reiterate that someone needs to inform me if the replacement part is available and there's a defective potentially harmful airbag in my car. that's when things take a turn for the worse. ed miller gets on the phone from the service center and says they refuse to fix it on the weekend. i state i work and have 2 small children in which i'm concerned about their safety and that my job is not flexible and i can't take off, can't they please fix it on the weekend.  we are about to take a long trip too!  he rudely and condensendingly says a lot of our clients have kids and jobs and are still able to do it during the week, if you can't then to find another delarship (the next is over an hour away) i say in tears at this point, can i please speak to your manager.  he proceeds to lie and say have absoultely no manager.  i question the validity of that and he reiterates they have no service manager and no dealership manager. i've honestly never been treated so bad by someone in my entire life.  i don't even know what to say, i'm honestly in shock, i don't know what's wrong with this guy but that was the meanest i've ever been treated. we brought a brand new suv from this dealership a year ago and always use them for service. to talk to anyone like that is so awful. they are refusing to fix it during hours i'm not at work, doesnt that violate some safety laws?????

The brakes are way too soft! i almost hit a kid in my neighborhood when i could not stop as quickly as i should have going 30mph. i have to push the brakes all the way to the floor it is insane. i have had the brakes bled, new pads put in, new calipers put in and no fix has worked.

I brought my honda odyssey into the kuhn honda dealership (tampa, fl) for recall with regard to the supplemental restraint system nhtsa 14v-351 and 14v-353. they made the necessary replacements of the airbags, srs modification and shift interlock. after this modification, the air bag srs light lit up and they told me i need a new srs unit. they stated they could sell me a used one for $350-400 plus installation. i told them i did not want a used srs unit and would purchase a new one from honda. i had them install the new srs unit on december 17, 2014. in march, 2014, i received another recall notice (nhtsa recall 15v-045 stating that honda srs units needed to be replaced and my honda dealership would be in touch with me when they received a new srs unit for my vehicle. on june 10, 2015, kuhn honda replaced my srs unit a second time but i did not have to pay for it this time. i should not have had to pay for it the first time back in december 2014 but they stated if i did not the car would not be safe. i have a complete compilation of recalls and dealership receipts/documentation that i have saved and can email if necessary.

I was driving down the highway at about 70 mph when the van suddenly quit pulling. it felt like it had gone into neutral, because the engine would rev but the van kept slowing down. i was lucky enough to have enough momentum to allow me to pull onto the shoulder of the highway. this could have ended very bad. i had 3 young children in the van, as we were going to spend the thanksgiving holiday with family. so we were several hours from home and no way to get to our family or back to our house. it was a scary ordeal for my and my children. when we finally got the van towed home and to a shop, we were told we were going to have to replace the transmission. we were also told this particular make/model/year is notorious for having the transmission go out. i contacted american honda this afternoon. i was told they could not help me with any cost of a replacement transmission. i was also told my complaint stopped with the customer service rep i was speaking with, but my claim is available to the engineers in case they want to see if my make/model/year has had any customer complaints filed. i asked him how they would even know to look for complaints if they weren't made aware of any complaints. all in all, i have a claim number for a complaint that will go no further than the customer service representative i spoke with over the phone. very disappointing. *tr

I'm having trouble with honda over my srs unit. i was told in january (while i was getting an airbag recall installed) that my srs unit was faulty and needed to be replaced for $1200. i waited for my tax return and now there's a brand new recall on the srs unit but those parts won't be available for several months. but in the mean time... my srs unit is faulty. they told me in january that in the event of a crash my airbags would not be deployed and my seatbelts wouldn't tighten or anything! so i took it to the dealership who offered me a rental until they had a chance to look into it (very nice) but now they are saying they cannot offer a rental until the part comes in, they want to run a diagnostic test on my dollar ($115 to be precise) because he told me even if the recalled part was installed my srs light wouldn't turn off-- that it was 'most likely something else'. i am so disappointed that honda wouldn't take my situation more seriously, this seems like a huge liability issue for them. i would expect them to at least replace my faulty srs with another current model that's not faulty until the part comes in... but i have to pay for even the diagnostics test? i'm baffled. *tr

I had all major services at honda dealer ( four wheels alignment at 95000 miles in 2012, timing bell at 100000 miles in 2012, oil transmission service at 109500 miles in 2013, alignment at 121000 in 2013). i bought extended warranty for 7 years or 100000 miles when i bought my car. during that time period and all services at honda dealer they did not advise any thing. today i brought my car for air bag recall, alignment and oil transmission service, they told me that i need to replace all three engine mount cost approximately $1380. i was shock because it too expensive. i can not understand why engine mounts easy to break. i went home researching online and surprising to discover that a lot of people had same problem. i think this engine mount defected or design problem cause engine mounts easy to break (normally need to replace over 200000 miles) and honda needs to address this issue. please advise me what i suppose to do because if engine mounts broke it going to effect suspension, balancing and alignment system etc... thank you very much.best regard, *tr updated 4/28/16 *js

A passenger in the car was bringing the window down. the passenger window dropped into the door, just fell down into the door with a loud noise. the window did not shatter but the window would not roll up. we took the car in for service. the door had to be taken apart to fix the window. also, we replaced the passenger door and driver door electronic control units. the first time, the window did not work. the second time both units were replaced, the window can now be controlled from the passenger side, but not the driver side. since then, a number of other honda odyssey (2003-2005) having this exact issue have surfaced. this seems like a manufacturing issue and should be fixed by the dealer not the consumer. *tr

I have a complaint about the way honda officials and the honda dealership have been handing my requests to have my airbags replaced. my car has not been involved in an accident; however, in order to send this complaint to you i had to enter an accident date. i have been trying since march 2014 to get the dealer to replace the air bags in my 2004 honda odyssey. according to a honda official at 1-800-999-1009 and the official honda website, both my driver and front passenger airbags are affected to by recall notice. however, since march i have had several contacts with the dealership and continue to get a run around. they will not replace the bags until they prove, in diagnostic tests, to be defective. i will be charged $90 for each test they find negative. it was my understanding that all airbags from this region of the country and bearing my vin, make and model were to be replaced free of charge. i have yet to receive a paper recall notice, because according to a honda official on 9/15/14, the delay in mailing them out is due to the lack of sufficient available replacement airbags to handle the recall notice. i have left several voice mail messages with the dealership where i purchased my vehicle, but no one has returned any of my calls. just what am i expected to do? how long must i wait to receive proper notice from honda officials? am i expected to pay for all of the diagnostic tests? if an airbag passes a diagnostic test there's no guarantee that it will not deploy at a future time with the same disastrous outcome we've been hearing about in the news. is anyone advocating on our behalf? *tr

Driving 2004 odyssey (140k miles) down i-95 in richmond (from nova) and started losing power (dropping speed with increasing rpms). bad smell and smoke out the back led me to believe it was my catalytic converter. check engine light never came on. found a shop that replaced the cc. while replacing they noticed lots of oil under my vehicle. turns out it was transmission fluid. the shop topped off the transmission fluid (4 qts), let it run for a while, didn't see a leak, and i drove off the lot. i noticed the check engine light was still on so i returned to the auto shop. they were having trouble erasing the error code so the light would go off so they recommended i have it fixed when i returned home. i was on my way to a north carolina beach with no other problems encountered (albeit a check engine light still lit). local driving at the beach at low speeds (below 40 mph) caused no issues. the following week on my way from the nc beach to nova, the tcs light was now lit (in addition to the check engine light). within a few miles i encountered a similar situation while heading north on i-95 (as i did the week before while heading south on i-95) though not as severe (slight drop in speed with increasing rpms, bad smell with smoke out the back of the vehicle). i found out the next day about the honda odyssey transmission problem. sounds like i was lucky to get 140k out of it, though not happy to hear about the lack of responsibility taken by honda. my wife and i have been loyal honda customers since 1984 with 4 vehicles purchased. no more. *tr

As i was driving the car, the engine over revved but the wheels were not moving. i was on city streets making a turn - luckily i was able to coast to the side of the road without any incident but it could have been dangerous as the gears were not engaging. after i navigated to the side of the road, the car wouldn't move forward or backward on being put in gear. there was a smell of burning rubber - later i realized it was probably burning or overheated transmission fluid. on towing the car to the dealer, the dealer ran diagnostics and advised me that my transmission was damaged and needed replacement. for the past couple of days, the 'check engine light" and the "tcs off light" had been coming on and off occasionally. i had also noticed the vehicle not responding to accelerator pedal being pressed in a normal fashion. *js

The brake pedal pushes almost to the floor before the van responds to braking. i have had multiple procedures done on the brakes by several mechanics and it has not fixed the problem. i usually pump the brakes when i am stopping because i don't have confidence in the braking system and by doing this, the braking system responds better. it happens at all speeds. i purchased this van used in 2008 and i noticed the mushy brakes at the time of purchase and was told that the brakes were fine. the dealer said hondas' brakes are known to be mushy. the brakes have gotten noticeably worse over the years. *tr

The day after coming home from an 800 mile road trip my wife was driving the van locally when the transmission started to act up. the van was not shifting smoothly from 2nd to 3rd gear, engine revving to over 4000 rpm. van was having problems engaging and had to pull over to side of road. had car towed to local honda dealer and we were told we needed a new transmission at a cost of $4,800. we bought honda for reliability and were very surprised transmission would need replacing at 148,000 miles. also had both electronic side doors replaced in 2012, both doors stopped working within the same month. *tr

It was thursday, early evening, and i was driving on a country road, approaching a stop sign, when the 2004 honda odyssey van's power cut out. the engine went dead in the middle of the road. it just suddenly cut off for no reason. i was able with difficulty to steer it to the side of the road. i turned the ignition "off" and called my husband thinking i might need aaa to come tow the car. after the van sat for a few minutes, i was able to get it to start again, but it sounded terrible and the engine's engagement felt weak. i was a few miles from an auto repair shop and decided to slowly drive it there and leave it overnight. i was told the next day that the transmission had failed and the mechanic mentioned that there had been a recall on my van of which i was unaware. i looked up the recalls on the nhtsa site that honda and issued and noticed that my van's vin number was in the range that had been recalled for transmission problems. i called local honda dealers about this as well as the honda corporate number. each said that even though my van's vin was in the batch that was recalled and even though the exact problem that i had experienced was the reason for the recall, they did not feel obliged to assist with the van's repair. neither the local honda dealer nor honda corporate would give an explanation as to why they felt they did not need to shoulder any of the transmission replacement costs. i believe this is against the law. can corporations like honda really get away with ignoring the law? after paying for a $4,600 transmission replacement, i do not have the money to fight them. *tr

The motor mounts on this vehicle have to be replaced. there has been a banging noise coming from the engine upon acceleration for some time. i brought it to the repair shop and they are telling us that we have to replace the motor mounts at over $1000.00. he has told us that this is a very common problem in this model vehicle. we have done research and found many others complaining to you and honda, as well as other forum boards. this is a dangerous situation that is being overlooked by honda. motor mounts are not a routine maintenance part. they should not be failing at all. as you know, failure of this part could cause catastrophic results causing a vehicle to careen into others, due to not being able to stop. this should clearly be a recall issue. the consumer should not be footing the bill for an obvious safety issue that honda is choosing to ignore. an investigation should be conducted immediately into this negligent behavior on honda's part. *tr

Transmission wants to shift but doesn't and it does it while driving down the highway at higher speeds to. i think it is bs that they know there is a problem with their transmissions and they tell me mine doesn't qualify because the vin doesn't match. i feel like they should fix it hasn't gone out yet but it will one day then i'm supposed to cover it. *tr

5/6/14 took my vehicle into the local service station for diagnosis of clunking engine noise. had to pay $1400 to replace both motor mounts that were completely worn out . also has to replace the outer tie rods that were worn out creating a completely unsafe vehicle. less than a week later, the d light went black. suddenly it came back on along with the check engine light. took vehicle back to the service station and they now diagnosed it with the p0740 code tcc lockup solenoid. called several transmission shops that told me the only way to fix this is to get a new transmission at a cost of $3500 and up. this is very discerning that the transmission didn't last longer and this is a known problem with this model vehicle and honda refuses to issue the recall on all 2004 transmissions. there are service bulletins out there referring to this specific issue. i called american honda and they refused to assist stating the vehicle is way out of warranty to assist financially. i have had all the service done at the dealer until there was an issue last year with the heating/air conditioner that the dealer was unable to successfully fix after 6 visits and numerous coolant flushes. i have no faith in that local dealership to help. now i'm stuck with a money pit and can't afford to replace it. never again honda. they have certainly lost my loyalty after all this. we dealt with the same issue with the 2003 acura tls transmissions that were bad, 3 transmissions later and no help from honda who knowingly covered up their faulty transmission problems and left consumers footing the bill. *tr

While driving on the highway noticed the gear slipping with check engine and traction control lights on. the dealer said its a problem with the torque control clutch malfunction and the whole transmission needs to be replaced. apparently there was a known problem with the honda odysseys built in 2002 to 2004. but according to honda my vin is not in that recall. it appears like the problem that is supposed to be fixed with the later 2004 models is not really fixed. honda doesnt want to pay for any of these fixes.

The automatic transmission failed completely on the interstate highway while traveling at 60 mph. the vehicle was stranded and had to be towed to the nearest dealership, royal honda in metairie, la. royal honda advised that the entire transmission needed to be replaced at a cost of $5,500. we received estimates from other transmission repair shops and decided to have the vehicle towed from royal honda to precision transmission exchange, in kenner, la. precision transmission installed a rebuilt transmission on october 3, 2011 for $2,537. *tr

There was no incident. my complaint is about the paint peeling significantly on my navy blue minivan. got an estimate for out of pocket repainting and was quoted $800.00 just for the hood. paint is peeling in more places. decided to check online to see if this was a common occurrence and it is. i have owned the van for over 9 years and never received any recall or reimbursement for paint peeling problem. *tt

While making a turn from a stop light, i noticed the green "d" drive light flashing. i contacted dealer who stated the transmission was about to fail and needed to be replaced. the mechanic stated that the transmission was noted to be "shifting heavy" into second gear and making a "clunk" sound when shifting. despite being outside of the transmission recall, honda agreed to pay for 1/2 of the repair cost after multiple complaints to corporate. the new transmission came with a 3 yr/36,000 warranty. about 12,000 miles later, the "d" light again began flashing. i took it back to the dealer who replaced the second transmission with a third. i find it interesting that the mechanic noted the problem in second gear, the same gear affected by the recall that i was not a part of. i believe the problem probably affected many more cars than were included in the recall and i was forced to pay thousands of dollars to repair a known problem. i do not have a hitch and have never towed anything with this vehicle. *tt

"d" light either flashing or off...even after trans flush. same symptoms as recalled hondas. i believe that the recall should have been a larger group...ie including my van and maybe it would still be working today if it was recalled! *tr

Have owned this oddysey since 2008 and the vehicle at that time had around 40,000 miles. at that time i had to replace the front engine mount. las week i went to the dealer for 90k service and they tell me i need to replace both the front right and front middle mount again!!!. so these mounts last 40 to 50k miles at max, outrageous for a brand like honda. i will cost me now 800$ to replace these 2. *tr

Driving on the freeway and the internal brake system light come on indicating that was any back brake lights, then while driving the vehicle stop going forward light the transmission went into neutral and then the tcs indicator and the engine light come on and then the 2004 odyssey stopped moving without any indication at all as i was driving in high traffic on a california freeway at approximately 7:30am on my way to work. i am told that there was a recall on these models and that i would cost me over $3,200.00 out of picket to fix and then, (i was told to take the vehicle to honda for recall repairs, because it is still under the recall static and honda has never fixed this problem. at the time i bought this vehicle from the dealer i wasn't told that there was a recall on these odyssey's and there wasn't any defeats reported on the vehicle fix sheets. *tr

One of the engine mounts broke back in 2005 and had four more broken over the years. i currently have 2 that are broken but will not replace them due to cost and it seems this is a defect due infact to the volume of times they have broken. toyota has replaced them twice. *tr

The back seat belt got twisted around my 14 year old's waist and would not loosen. she was not able to get out and could not breathe, as the seat belt would only tighten every time she tried to squeeze out. we made an emergency stop at a gas station and had to cut the seat belt off of her. this was the second incident with the same van but the other seatbelt. my 10 year-old also got stuck once before but since he was smaller, i was able to help him twist around and squeeze out. *tr

I recently received a recall notice for a module in the airbag system causing it to deploy on its own. the additional problem that i am having is the " srs " light is on which as i was told by the honda mechanic that it means that the air bag might not deploy if needed . they also refused to fix the light being on because they said the 2 problems had nothing to do with each other. it would seem to me more of a safty hazzard that the air bag would not inflate when you would need it as apposed to going off by itself. they are making me bring it back another day so they can charge $115.00 diagnostic fee plus other parts what is needed. *tr

I started leasing honda odyssey 2004 from honda dealership in april 2004 for 3 years, has not any problem with vehicle in that period (warranty period). i bought after lease and all problems started. 1): radio stopped working, honda replaced "free" because i bought additional 2 year warranty with $100 deductible, 2): back side window also stopped on open position, honda fixed for $100 deductible, (past 4 years both side windows doesn't work), 3): (one of major problems for blue color odyssey's this year), paint started peeling from hood, roof, under glass of both side sliding doors, around back both side windows and whole paint on tailgate, honda covered only hood, roof and around back both side windows, when asked to paint rest of places they said don't have instruction about other spots from honda (its was very funny, like: "doctor know better, are you dead or alive"), now honda offers me for paint it with discounted price. 4) transmission fails, couldn't get any gear until resetting from hole top of steering will,changing trans oil didn't resolve this problem (this what mechanic told me) in honda dealership 5) in 2011 on scheduled oil change mechanic told me to change all engine mounts and front shocks for $2500, hydraulic engine mount got leak and broke other mounts, i bought all engine mounts and front shocks for $700 and changed my self....now srs electronic control unit....i guess its too many defects and problems for this car....btw i'm a first and only owner of this odyssey and got only 96k miles on it.... *tr

I took the van to the dealership for and oil change and its 60,000 mile check up. i was told two of the engine mounts are cracked and/or broken. about $900 to replace both of them. upon looking on the internet, it seems this is a very common problem for honda odysseys at about that mileage around that year. with so many with the problem, there should be a recall.

I did not know the motor mount was an issue on honda odyssey but i already replace one so far on my van after a month i took my van for a ignition recall and overall the van did not any problems at all after getting it back from the dealer but after a few weeks the engine keep shutting down in a low idle, no accidents so far only mad people behind me when my van stalls. can you (nhtsa) investigate or let me know if this is a honda issue or my, one other problem is suspension is to noisy feels like leaving wheels behind i hope you take matter on all complaints before someone get hurt. *tr

We have a 2004 honda odyssey, bought it used in the summer of 2009 with 79,766 mile. now at 91,160 mile, it's having major issues. on october 12, 2013, we drove the van to the store and back home just fine. on monday, october 14th when we tried to drive the van again, it would not reverse or drive at all. the engines starts up just fine in parking and in neutral gear. as soon as the gear was shifted to d or r, the engines stalled. plus the d drive light was flashing prior to the failure. searching online i found that owners of 2004 honda odyssey was having the same issue with the transmission failing. on october 22, i called to honda america to see if i can get some assistance for helping with the repair. i was given a case number. that same morning, i had our odyssey van towed to a honda dealer to be diagnosis of the problem. i have never drove a car that transmission would fail. if honda doesn't assist me with the repair, this will be the last honda i will ever buy! *tr

Transmission slips in 2nd gear with a slight load i.e. going up a slight hill. if you accelerate the slipping/shudder goes away. honda was not able to give me specific information as to the vin numbers affected by their 2004 transmission recall but could only tell me my vin was not one of them. there are many complaints about the second gear slipping failure when i searched online, the information i read stated that the issue was with oil flow to the second gear clutch assembly. it seems the 2004 recall should have included more vin numbers. my vehicle has high mileage now and is outside honda's assistance parameters but if there had been a recall maybe my transmission would not have failed. *tr

Received news from a local honda dealership that all 4 engine mounts were broken for a cost of $925. when looking for parts happen to see the amount of chatter regarding engine mounts on several model years of the odyssey. lesson learned... perhaps check this site before buying any vehicle. seems honda should cover some of the cost at least. *js

The key would frequently fall out of the lock, or get stuck in the lock. a recall was issued for the interlock lever in the ignition switch. we were unable to immediately bring our vehicle to the dealer for the recall repair because it was our sole source of transportation. while i was away in california attending my aunt's memorial, the key to the vehicle failed to function whether in park or otherwise. the tow truck driver broke the key off in the lock trying to get the vehicle into neutral, because the switch would not properly release the key. the vehicle was brought to the dealer to apply the recall repair to the interlock lever *and any other necessary part of the ignition switch* per the recall notice. after replacing the ignition switch, the dealer and honda corporate decided that this was not a recall issue and refused to accept responsibility for any part of the repair cost, even though the notice clearly states that repairs to the interlock lever and *any necessary part of the ignition switch* should be covered at no cost. [xxx] in the case management division of american honda corporate (he refused to give me his last name, but indicated that he was the only [xxx] in that division) and [xxx] at the local dealership, crown honda of greensboro, both refused to acknowledge any responsibility for this repair and forced us to pay full price for the repair in order to release my van. the recall notice clearly states that not only the faulty interlock lever but any necessary part of the ignition switch would be replaced at no cost. it doesn't matter whether there were other issues with the ignition switch. it was still specifically stated in the recall notice that this would be covered at no cost. apparently, honda does not feel that it has to honor the recall notice if there are any other minor mechanical issues existing in the ignition assembly. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

The transmission failed upon entering the freeway. vehicle suddenly lost power and forced to pull over. almost rear ended by other cars also entering the freeway. honda odysseys are known to have transmission problems and this body style 1999 to 2004 are defective. from my readings a large quantity of the transmissions failed at 80,000 so at least we made it to 125,000 miles. i regularly changed the transmission fluid. spent $3200 at aamco getting it fixed. *tr

The midnight blue paint is peeling. i did not receive notice of honda's 2008 recall of this problem. when an independent car repair shop told me of the problem in 2012 i then went to a local honda dealer to report the problem. honda said that it was past the window of time in which honda would restore the paint job at their expense. i told them that i did not receive a recall notice. they did not care. *tr

Car seemed to suddenly slow down when approaching stop signal. tried to pull away when light was green, but remained stationary after pressing on gas/accelerator three to four times. finally was able creep along until i was able to steer into a bank parking lot. honda dealer diagnosed ;problem as faulty transmission due to overheated/burntout of solenoids. *tr

During the summer of 2012 i was parked in a parking lot facing the sun. when i started my car the srs (air bag warning) light illuminated. as i drove the 3 miles to my home the light stayed on. within the next two weeks the same thing happened about two times. it has not occurred since then. the airbags did not deploy. my honda dealer mechanic checked the car and indicated that no codes appeared in the car's computer system to indicate that the srs light ever came on. *tr

About may 2013, i noticed the paint peeling from the area near the back windows. when i told the technician at honda roseville, he just said it was wear and tear. it can't be wear and tear in the upper frame of the windows. if it is not addressed soon, the paint will continue peeling up to the roof area. through research, i have found several complaints about peeling paint on this model and color of vehicle. *tr

Two several sections of paint started peeling off without corrosion or scratch. areas affected: hood, roof, near the back windows and sliding doors. the peeling are major on the roof. this seems a known issue with the dark blue honda odysseys. i took it to the dealer but said because it's 9 years old they weren't obligated to fix it. *tr

Brought odyssey to dealer for recent recall. after recall repair, dealer service recommended front motor mount be replaced at a cost of over $400. i searched online and found several customers receiving similar recommendations, and one customer recommended informing nhtsa. is this a problem with hondas? *tr

Terrible wet traction in rain and snow. could not get vehicle to go without a push in 1.5 inches of snow on flat, gravel driveway. from a stop, tires spin on wet roads. vehicle veers sideways as tires try to grip. have nearly been hit pulling into traffic expecting vehicle to go and tires spin out on wet roads. *tr

The airbag fault light has been illuminating randomly at vehicle startup for about the past 12 months. i'm afraid the system is not working properly and could result in unwarranted airbag deployment. *tr

I was coming out of apartment parking lot and suddenly car stopped. i have to towed car to herb chamber of honda in westborough, ma. technician told me that it is a computer failure. i am not sure why computer fail as before this incident my used not to start after parking. to start i had to insert key and move gear from parking to d1 and move it back to p and it started all the time. i not sure this is a computer issue. they are charging me $1500.00 for this. could you please help to resolve this. since i bought this car i am having issues, my car paint is peeling off too, without corrosion or scratch. *tr

Beginning around nov. 23, 2012, air bag light on dashboard stayed on after its initial test (blink on and then off) once ignition turned on and engine running. over next approximately 5 months, light would intermittently come on after test and then stay on while engine running. seems to occur more more when the outside temperature is warm rather than cold. however, within the past approximately 1 month (since may 2013), light has been staying on constantly after initial test and ignition turned on. vehicle has been operating normally otherwise. i've checked all seatbelt connections and fuses and nothing abnormal found. no other dashboard lights are having problems, nor have there been any electrical or mechanical problems with the vehicle, so problem is isolated to airbag system. *tr

We used honda odyssey [2004] daily for commuting (never towed anything and don't haul anything). the car would start moving and all of the sudden would stop moving forward. the car was suddenly stuck immediately after crossing the intersection. i was not able to move the car in any direction and stuck on the road. on duty police officer informed that i need to move the car as early as possible because it is a safety issue. he wanted to call the towing truck, but at that time i tried shifting from to park and back to drive it would move forward for few hundred feet and again same thing no forward motion. at that time i was on down the hill and so able to pull the car near one business park. later, i towed the car to near by shop and found transmission failure. honda motor company refused to do anything. when i found recall for the same issue, honda motor company said that there is no recall on my car. honda dealer is charging $5,600 to fix this. 8tr

Original owner of this vehicle and i've had to replace the transmission twice, the a/c system 3 times and starter. numerous electrical problems with the doors and windows and recently had to replace the ignition switch that seized one afternoon. all service intervals have been followed as with my other vehicles that have had tires and fluid changes with no other fixes. the paint continues to flake off even after honda of concord, nc repainted half of the vehicle. 2 years ago. vehicle has left my wife stranded on dozens of occasions along with the vehicle's 9th battery since 2004. selling this vehicle is not an option but replacing it is. it will not be replaced with another honda product ever and i caution anyone who is ever in the market for one of these vans to avoid them at all cost. the dealerships have been nothing but a nightmare to work with and would not cover any of the repairs i listed above. they are junk. *tr

Took in our 2004 honda odyssey mini-van to fix open recalls. dealer found a broken motor mount. i've never had such a thing happen to any vehicle and was surprised that it would fail at such low mileage. after researching online i come to find that this is a frequent problem for the honda odyssey. *tr

2004 honda odyssey. consumer writes in regards to transmission problems. *smd the consumer stated on july 27, 2012, the engine light illuminated. the consumer immediately had it checked it out, where they discovered a possible transmission problem. according to three different mechanics, the 2004 model was known to have a defective transmission fan that did not cool down the transmission effectively. the failure was due largely to the transmission fan being too small for the transmission.

I was driving on i-630 in little rock, in moderate traffic when the car suddenly lost power and would not accelerate. i was forced to coast through traffic to the side of the road without incident. as soon as i lost power, the lights on the dash flashed. if the traffic had been heavier, the outcome might not have been as favorable. the transmission failed without warning in the middle of the freeway. *tr

My transmission is making a noise, as of 3/21/13. i had taken it to transmission shop and it is ring and pinion and it is quite expensive so when i went to check it out on the internet came across that there was a recall on this model back in 2004 i was never notified and now it is costing me several thousands of dollars, if there is a recall on this i expect honda to pay for this not me. i love my van and bought it because of its dependability and reliability and now i am having a lot of problems with the van. i expect someone to contact me asap and honda to cover the cost. *tr

Second owner. transmission replaced by honda in 2006 at 55,000 miles for noted gear overheating recall in sarasota, fl. current mileage is less than 90,000 miles later. transmission regular maintenance completed and a firmware update was done in 2009 at 120,000 (65,000 on new tranny) miles. transmission now downshifts very hard (hard shift) from 3-2 when coasting downhill or if the brake is slightly applied when coasting downhill. honda technicians stated normal operation to allow for engine braking. new firmware caused the change. q4 2012 transmission now shifts from 1-2 in about 3 seconds, not slipping, but taking a long time to shift and prevents acceleration during this delay. could prevent accident avoidance with long delay. honda technician states normal operation and included in firmware to reduce damage due to recall. note these issues are on the supposedly "fixed" transmission. series of data suggests that the recall repair did not solve transmission failure problem, but was a band-aid in combination with firware updates to "buffer" 2nd gear manufacturing defects. i do not believe the transmission will survive to 100k miles, but has received excellent care and repairs. safety issue is the inability to accelerate during 1-2 shift delay and unexpected engine braking during downhill coasting which could trigger rear-end accidents (note no brake lights when it occurs). i believe in honda and they should do the right thing and provide lifetime transmission replacements due to the safety concerns with their products that are well-known and documented. *tr

I was driving on the highway when the shift light on d started flashing and the transmission failed with the vehicle coming to a stop. i had the vehicle towed to the transmission clinic 3875 interpark drive, colorado springs, co. 80907. under a honda recall id# 48576, i tried to get some compensation for the $3,897.40 repair of a rebuilt transmission. american honda motor co. inc. never sent me a recall notice even thought i bought the car new from them and i never changed my address. honda should have sent me a recall notice or checked the transmission when i had the vehicle in the dealership for oil changes. i have written two letters to american honda motor co. inc. and received a case # n012013-01-21-02021 and talked with a bridget 1-800-999-1009 ext. 117730. she says sense i did not have the repairs done by honda, they will not compensate me for anything. she refused to address the recall notice that i never received.

Transmission system failed at 90,000 miles. i have done all services at regular intervals and all major services from the dealer. just before this breakdown, i had my 90k mile service done at the dealer and everything was reported fine. *tr

Honda odyssey has transmission issues. they had a class action law suit against them and i had the appropriate warranty work done on it. it has now gone completely out. i'm under on the mileage for the extended warranty work, but over on the age. if you look on the internet, this is happening to a lot of people. honda either didn't fix the transmission issues or created new ones with the recall. now the fix is a $5000 one. honda should be liable to fix this or a large part of it. *tr

I was driving on route 17 in bergen county, my tcs light came on. i noticed that my tachometer was elevated without any increase in speed. i had no forward motion and had to coast to the shoulder, numerous trucks and cars were passing by very close and the van was shaken as they went by. i tried turning off and starting the van to see if i could shift any gears when reset, there was no response. i needed to call 911 for an officer to get a tow truck for me. i was very happy to have his lights and presence as the road was dark and heavily trafficked. i was towed and informed it was the transmission, this situation was dangerous and after researching realized that the odyssey has a history of this problem!! this needs to be addressed so others will not be put in danger. *tr

Transmission failure began with whining noise. took the vehicle into the dealership for diagnosis and tranny oil change. they reported back that the tranny was failing. the oil change only made the problem worse. tcs and check engine light came on, slipping, revving with no movement at a stop. i ended up having vehicle towed to a shop and the tranny was rebuilt. cost was $2,668.75 with tax. *tr

Car stopped going into gear check engine light came on d started flashing and tcs light came on car would keep hesitating into gear and finally just would not move. typical problem for honda odyssey as i just found out by class action suit and many complaints on line. but when i call honda they say this car has never been recalled for any transmission defects. picture that it is amazing how many problems they have had and continue to have but they do a good job keeping it quiet. this is very dangerous and i am sure expensive problem for them that is why they wont admit to any defects. since this is costing me 3500 to get a jasper transmission with 3 year warranty. will not buy a honda again. *tr

Unsure of exact date this first started occurring, but certainly within the last 12 months. we are able to turn the ignition to the off position and remove the key from the ignition while the vehicle is still engaged in gears other than park (d, n, r) . typically happens when we pull into a parking place or driveway. depending on vehicle orientation, car will start to roll if we do not engage parking brake. several close calls, fortunately no roll-aways, accidents or injuries. now having problems with the key fitting into the ignition and starting the vehicle. almost as if the entire ignition / interlock system is wearing out, very loose tolerances, as if the ignition lock cylinders are not lined up any more. *tr

Motor mounts on this vehicle are failing prematurely. i had to replace right engine mount at 97750 miles and was just informed by a honda dealership that the front engine mount needs to be replaced at 102500 miles. *tr

I parked my car, removed the keys and exited the vehicle. once outside, the car began to roll backwards and i pushed against it to hold it from rolling into the car parked next to me (the front wheels were turned). i re-entered the car and shifted it into park and applied the parking brake. *tr

I was able to remove the key without putting the vehicle gear on park and went for a movie with family. after watching movie, i came back, i put the key and tried to start the vehicle, it didn't start. i couldn't realize that the vehicle is not in park, it was late night, myself and my family was left alone trying to start the vehicle, it was very scary, and later realized and started the vehicle after putting it to park. *tr

After reading an article on october 6, 2012 by reuters "government investigates honda pilot,odyssey rollaway risk", i realized that is exactly what is happening to my 2004 honda odyssey. many times after coming to a complete stop and after placing the gear shift arm into 'park', the vehicle does not register that the vehicle is in 'park', however i am able to remove the key from the ignition. *tr

Originating in portland, or to l.a., california, our vacation was abruptly interrupted 30 miles north of bakersfield with some smoke coming out of our engine. we decided to pull over for safety and upon disembarking noticed from fluid dripping from the driver side area of the engine. we were towed to a honda dealership in bakersfield and after spending the night came back the next morning to the dealer and was told that my transmission on my 2004 honda odyssey was out of commission and that it needed to be replaced. i have been a loyal customer of honda since the 80's, as my other family members, and never had we experienced this type of catastrophic event(having to pay $4000.00 to replace the transmission) during our family vacation. i am the original owner of this van and (from 2004), i never have i received any recall or communication from the honda corporation about the transmission. i always changed my fluids and had it maintained. if i would've known about the transmission issue, i probably would've avoided using it for such as long journey. i contacted the honda corporation office in california but they disregarded it as just a misfortune. i asked for reimbursement or some type of reimbursement but they denied my plead. *tr

Check engine light came up right after a recent refuel and we pulled the vehicle on the side and checked the manual. we tightened the fuel cap but the light did not go away. we took it to the dealer to get it checked up. upon diagnosis the deal told us that the transmission has gone bad and needs a total transmission replacement. got a second opinion from two other auto repair shops and they confirmed what dealer said that the transmission has gone bad and needs replacement. *tr

While heading down the interstate at 70 miles an hour the transmission just went away. after researching the issue i found out that honda has had several issues with the transmissions doing just that and say they have fixed it. however, in my opinion it has not been fixed. as i was sitting along the highway waiting for a tow truck as semi after semi went past shaking my van, i think they should take another look at the issue. Drove the car about 20 yards, then placed it in park to allow the rear van doors to open for our children. when the kids got in, i placed the shift lever in drive. immediately, both the driver and passenger airbags deployed violently. i was not in motion, was not struck by any other vehicle or object, and my foot was on the brake. an off-duty police officer was parked right behind me saw this and came to help. he noted that the airbag firing mechanisms continued to fire. "i've seen a lot of wrecks" he said "but i've never seen the airbags continue to fire. the horn continued to beep. she sustained powder burns on both arms, and was, of course shocked by the surprise. it was raining at the time of the incident. the car has not been driven further. i had minor powder burns on my arms, and our ears were ringing from the loud explosions. *tr

On friday 8/10/2012, when i was driving at 35mph, the check engine light and tcs light both came up, then at the stop light when the red turned green, the car won't accelerate much as i pushed the gas pedal, it goes very slow but the engine was running 4-5k rpm. it wen back to normal driving for a couple of days but the cel light is still on so i decide to go the dealer (kings honda in cincinnati, oh) on moday 8/14/2012 but it did the same thing again on the road, i had to stop the engine becuase it won't move and restart a few time in order to drive there (total about 4 miles). after the dealer checked it, they told me that i need a new transmission. i have never expected the honda transmission will go bad at this stage. *tr

Was told that 2 engine mounts needed to be replaced. one was broken, and the other cracked. standard maintenance schedule followed. no issue mentioned at during previous service appointments. normal family driving for vacations and around town only. *tr

Took the van to the local honda dealer for a routine brake fluid and brake rotor replacement. while working on that the mechanic noticed that the two front engine mounts were damaged. these are not listed by honda as the routine maintanance items. but failure of these would cause certain damage. apparently it is a known issue with honday odysseys but honda has no recall for the failed part. *tr

Sudden loss of acceleration on the interstate mechanic looked underneath and mentioned the rear main seal on the transmission was leaking and it lost the transmission fluid only option now is an approximate $5,000 replacement with re-manufactured transmission!!!! *tr

I was driving on the interstate using cruise control set at 70 mph the posted speed limit when there was a subtle clunk like i hit a small bump and then the engine sounded like it was out of gear, it was revving and slowing down. i made sure it was in gear, it was and i turned the cruise control off and attempted to accelerate and the rpm surged but the speed continued to slow. there was smoke coming from under the front of the vehicle and when i looked in the rear view mirror there was a long trail of smoke behind me. i was able to get over to the shoulder safely.this is missouri highway 70, heavily traveled by semis. we had traveled 70 miles on the highway when this happened in 95 degree weather. i had it towed to the honda dealership and it was indeed the transmission and it had to be replaced at approximately $4,000. i had no prior warning signs, no slipping of gears, no dash lights lit, just a slight clunk and no ability to accelerate. *tr

Car key would not turn the ignition...it would lock up and a few minutes later work. we had to replace the ignition lock assembly and now have a different keys to start the car then the car doors. the cost of the new ignition lock was $402.03. *tr

Vehicle failed safety inspection today because 3 engine mounts are broken. they were not broken at last years safety inspection, nor at scheduled maintenance 6 months ago. mechanic indicated he sees this frequently on honda odyssey. *tr

Check engine light on and tcs light flashing. diagnosis code p0740 indicates: torque converter lockup malfunction.vehicle will not shift into the highest gear at freeway speed, shudders when accelerating at approx 20 mph and gas mileage has decreased significantly. determined that there is internal slipping requiring a new transmission. seatbelts do not retract and get caught in doors. several areas of body have midnight blue paint peeling. *tr

Had noticed recently that when switching gears the van "jumped" and at highway speeds seemed to vibrate/shake. then the engine light came on. after much investigation, the diagnosis was the transmission needed to be replaced. when the transmission was being worked on it was also discovered that all of the mounts had to be replaced as well. the maintenance schedule had been followed completely so this was a complete shock -- at least until i started doing some research, saw the recall notice of over 1-million honda odyssey transmissions (however my vin # didn't come up!) and saw just how many transmission complaints there were from other owners also not part of the recall. because the dealership was way too expensive, i chose my recommended local aamco shop to do the repairs. called honda and was told there would be no "goodwill" claim because (a) the dealership did not do the repair and (b) the transmission is only warrantied by honda for 36/36,000 (no wonder!!). however, the dealership had told me that honda rarely provides "goodwill" claims and if they do, i'd be lucky to receive $400, so considering the dealership was over $2000 more for just the transmission work, i couldn't risk having the dealership do the repair to later find out that honda would reject a "goodwill" claim. *tr

At around 80,000 complained to honda dealer that my van was roughly downshifting from 3rd to 2nd gears. they just recommended a transmission flush and never mentioned previous recall and tranny problems. i bought this vehicle as a certified pre-owned with 39,000 miles. was unaware of the recall and problems with prior model years. my extended warranty expired at 100,000 miles and my transmission died at 112,560. i backed out of the garage and when i shifted from reverse to drive my van kept rolling backward. i thought it was a fluke until it died while driving it with my two small children in the van in the middle of our town. it managed to shift to 2nd gear and drive to a local mechanic at around 45 mph (i was able to drive since i was in town and the speed limit where it failed was 40mph. i had to have it towed to honda as the transmission was not drivable once it was shut off at mechanic. this is very dangerous. it is wrong for honda to not have to replace these faulty transmissions. i paid honda over $3,000 for this replacement. *tr

2004 honda odyssey with 135,000 miles being driven on interstate when transmission failed completely with no warning. was able to drift off interstate and roll to a safe spot. i understand transmission issues/complaints are high on these years of odyssey's. currently being told the transmission will have to be replaced at an approximate cost of $3500. *js

Side and front motor mounts discovered to have failed at 59852 miles on 2/19/09 and had to be replaced. now, 6/18/12, rear (transmission) mount discovered to have failed at 88000 miles and has to be replaced. normal family driving for vacations and around town only. no extreme conditions or roads. *js

With 130,000 miles our 2004 honda odyssey has been diagnosed with internal transmission failure. complete maintenance to date. in reading we have found websites devoted to this problem, a class action suit is filed, yet no recall has been made by honda. odysseytransmission.com suggested submitting this form to add to the total count. *tt

While driving for 2 hrs, the transmission started to rattle and begin to lose power almost driving me in to a fatal accident while driving on a freeway. after opening the hood there was transmission fluids all over the transmission. honda refused to acknowledge the on going problem with transmission failure. *js

Driver's seat turns into a rocker and reclined backwards towards the second row while in mid traffic. dealer says that the seat tray is broken and costs to the owner is $2500 to replace it. seems like a manufacturer defect and a safety issue since incident was not provoked and seats looks new. i noticed drivers seats in models post 2004 are designed differently, a one-piece unit instead of a tray+seat. believe manufacturer is aware of this issue prompting redesign of subsequent models. car is unsafe to drive with the driver's seat rocking and reclining. all other seats seem to be fine. *js

While driving the van about 65 mph on highway, it suddenly slowed down to a stop, could not get any power. cruised to the side of the road. noticed fluids leaking from engine. had to tow the car to the dealership, frank ancona honda, olathe kansas. told that the front and side motor mounts were broken and was causing stress on the back motor mount, and that this caused the engine to shake and the vent tube was shaken off, drained all transmission fluid. cost to repair the motor mounts and vent tube was $860.31. told by repairman that this was a common problem for honda odyssey's when they hit around the 110,000 mile mark. and they replace these all the time. seems to me if this is a common problem then there must be a flaw in the engineering and honda should have recalled this vehicle for this problem. this is a safety issue to which i feel honda needs to address and fix. *tr

While on a sales trip 180 miles from home--experienced chugging betweens gear shifts 1-2, and strong slipping between 3 and 4. drove directly to the nearest honda dealer. transmission diagnosed as clutch failure from codes by honda dealership mechanic, after test driving and reading codes. indicated it is still drive-able, if one is careful. limped home with extreme care during acceleration. drove approx. 50 miles to oh turnpike. while driving on the ohio turnpike, experienced quickly deteriorating power during slight prolonged incline-- which led to complete, 100% failure within 2-3 miles. was left stranded on the berm to be towed home. *tt

About 2 years ago, the window actuator failed on the passenger side, i paid to repair this. over the last 6 months, another 4 actuators have failed. one of them is the lock actuator on passenger side, second is the lock actuator on left sliding door, another is the window actuator on driver side and the actuator for driver side door lock. the problems of this magnitude are a serious safety issue as the window actuator on driver side suddenly failed while driving and was scary as the window just fell into the door. the other actuators failing with locks and doors can be a serious problems, especially with children in the vehicle where the window or door suddenly opens or closes. this seems to be an electrical component problem that need to be addressed by a national recall. *tr

Srs light comes on and would not come off, dealer replaced driver side seatbelt receptacle. srs light come off for a week then srs light comes on and would not come off. *tr

I have a 2004 honda odyssey. the paint is peeling on the front hood in several spots and the clear coat is peeling on the drivers side rear sliding door. i have brought the car to my local honda dealer where it was purchased and also contacted american honda. they both claim there is nothing that can be done for me. *tr

Transmission needs to be replaced on this vehicle. bought the van used in 2006 with 25,000 miles. the van is not used for towing. driven mostly around town and on long trips. now with just 115000 miles the mechanic is saying the transmission is shot. today the van revved awkwardly high during gear shifts and then the gear selector became non-effective once the vehicle stopped. apparently this is typical for this vehicle of this age which unacceptable in my mind for a honda. the estimate is for $4,500 to repair. *tr

My daughter, a single mother, bought goodyear viva 16x225/60r16 98t from walmart on 10-20-2011. one blew out the side wall and another developed a hole in the sidewall and had buldges all along the outer wall. the other two have poor wear. the tires are a bunch of junk. we need a total recall and destruction of the inferior product before someone gets killed. if they haven't already. *js

Drove the car in the morning and parked it...got back in the car and drove it and noticed the shifter was loose. i change the atf every 30,000 miles as recommended by honda and used honda atf. drained and replaced; not flushed. took the car to an atra certified shop to diagnose the problem with the shifter. the shop said that either the spring on the detent ball or the pin holding the rooster comb onto the manual shaft is broken. recommended that i stop driving the car because of safety concern. recommended replacement with rebuilt transmission. *tr

Backing out of my driveway in reverse then shifting into drive the odyssey would continue in reverse. shifted into drive and the car wouldn't move. shifted into 2nd gear and the car stated to move, shifted again into drive. stopped at a traffic light and when i put my foot on the gas the rpm's went flying and the car wouldn't move forward. *tr

The transmission start working wrong, when the ac compressor stops shouts down, i don't know what could be the problem, now the engine light is on as well the tcs light. the van accelerate by it self and stops really hard, and sometimes stays in 2nd gear or 3th gear. please i need help!!!! *tr

At low speeds, approx. 20 to 40 mph, the vehicle has a shudder/rumble sensation thru the steering wheel and you can feel it whether you are driving or a passenger. this is an intermittent problem and does not do it all the time. i have never had the problem at speeds over 45 to 50 mph. i took it to a local honda dealer and of course they could not duplicate the problem and told me a transmission fluid change was needed. i paid $225. for an oil change and tranny fluid change and a 'diagnostic test drive' it didn't fix the problem. since that time of that repair, i have just lived with the problem and hoped for the best. it wasn't until i started reading online about how many other people are having the same problem with odyssey minivans. i hope you can help me get this problem satisfactorily repaired from honda. they are very well aware of this problem and apparently there was a recall on these minivans to fix this problem. i bought this minivan used from van's honda in green bay, wi in april of 2007 and i am unaware if my van was recalled. it wasn't recalled as long as i have owned it. *tr

This is the 2nd transmission that is failed, honda has refuse to pay anything. they claim that there transmission has no problem but after google i find that they have a class action regarding this problem. i want assistance in this problem i will not afford another $ 3000 to fix it. the first transmission failed at only 79000.00 miles now this one failed only 103093 miles. *tr

My 2004 honda odyssey experienced an automatic transmission failure in 2007 where the transmission would downshift while driving down the street at speed which would cause a dangerous situation if vehicle were behind you or if you were driving down a slick or snow covered roadway. the transmission was replaced at no cost to me by honda. on feb 6th the transmission failed again while driving down the road at 35mph. the transmission downshifted to first gear and would not up shift. the van was not able to go above 20 mph and there were vehicles behind our vehicle which created a dangerous situation due to the vehicle rapidly decelerating. *tr

During a routine oil change yesterday, my wife was informed that the front and side motor mounts were broken and needed replaced. this seemed odd since it had not been observed during previous visits and for the miles on the vehicle. after going on line, it appears there are many others having the exact same issue and that this is a quality issue with honda. i only hope that nothing serious happens to any owners of these vehicles including mine. *tt

Auto repair shop informed me that two motor mounts were broken. not repairing them could result in the engine dropping and pulling radiator down which would be dangerous and result in a more expensive repair. they informed me that motor mounts are not a maintenance item, like belts, for example. they should not have to be replaced in normal circumstances. they also said they have seen a lot of this exact problem in this generation honda odyssey. further, the price of these motor mounts is very high and has not come down which is what they would expect given the frequency of repair and age of model. i called honda america which told me that since my car is out of warranty there's nothing they can do. *tr

Three engine mounts are broken on our honda odyssey. this seems to be a very common problem with this model. we have had and currently have other cars that are and were older than this odyssey and yet the mounts remained in tact. honda currently refuses to acknowledge that this is a model defect. i have had to shell out close to $1500 to correct their defective parts. i am appalled that they are refusing to recall these parts and on top are charging such high prices to correct it. *tr

While returning from texas to arkansas, my transmission had a complete failure on i-20 south of dallas. there was no warning, no indicator lights, no sounds. the engine tach redlined and i was able to cross 2 lanes of traffic with no power whatsoever. the car began smoking from hot transmission fluid. when i stopped, i noticed fluid covering the inside of the front wheel wells. i had it towed to a nearby honda dealer and was told i had a total transmission failure. there were no computer codes recorded by the vans computer. my bill to have it replaced was $4,200.00. i also had to pay for a tow, a rental car to return to little rock and an airline ticket to return to dallas to recover my van. this car was purchased new by me and has always been serviced by honda. *tr

My transmission went out. i have had my transmission looked at 3 times since may of 2011. i knew it was going but honda would not find anything wrong until my warranty was up. i feel that a transmission should last more then 80,000 miles. *tr

Vin not available: car currently in service on monday, 12/19/2011, the odyssey accelerated even after applying brakes to slow down. had to pull into service shop and drive until the car could be safely placed in park, and had to shut off the engine. was told the electronic throttle position sensor (part #047211) would have to be ordered from honda and replaced. the car was available for pick up on tuesday 12/20/2011. on wednesday, 12/21/2011, while traveling east on the new york state thruway the car began to accelerate again above the speed limit without stepping on the gas. the cruise control was not on. the car continued to accelerate after depressing the brakes. i had to pull to the side of the road and into a service station. continued to drive around parking lot until i could put the car in neutral and, again, shut the engine off. even when car was turned back on the engine accelerated. the car is currently at a certified honda repair shop in yorkville, n.y. being evaluated. they are telling us they will need to check engine and transmission mounts on the vehicle (due to being in an accident in 2009, but was reconditioned in 2010 by another honda dealer), also will check cable between throttle body and gas. still waiting to hear if anything has been resolved. this car is the main car for our household which includes 4-year-old triplets (one has special needs). only the operator was in the vehicle when both incidents occurred. *tr

Driving on the highway florida to illinois at apx 65-70mph,without warning vehicle looses power, almost to a crawl, smoke bellowing out behind the car. diagnosed as transmission failure. honda dealership states vehicle is not cover by warranty or recall. dealership could replace tranny at a cost over $5k. opted to install another odyssey trans independently. this failed in less than 1k miles. opted to then have original transmission independently rebuilt with genuine honda's oem parts and specification with honda dealership consult. worked fine for appx 26k miles then torque converter burned out again. replaced and repaired torque even solenoid but less than 8k mi tranny failed again. all these happened in less than one year and 30k miles. bill kay honda dealership still saying car is not involve in recall/suit and out of warranty. previously i complained at planet honda about a jerk/thump when increasing speed between 10-40 and dealership states they 'could not duplicate the problem'. vehicle is still down and honda and their dealerships are still screwing it's customers. ps: had 2002 odyssey that was on its way out with similar problems but it crashed. also, have a 2001 civic with same transmission failure sitting for the least 3 years with only about 100k on it! shame on you honda!!! *tr

While driving 35mph on a city bridge, the engine lost power, then revved. the symptoms repeated the next day. my wife was unable to control the van when the problems occurred. we took the van to our honda dealership and were informed the transmission had failed. our 2004 odyssey has had all required factory maintenance performed by the dealership we purchased it from. at 95,000 miles we had the recommended 105,000 mile service to include a transmission flush and inspection. there were no problems prior to the service and the service showed our van was in excellent condition. honda warranty had expired, i was told by honda of america that transmission service life was approximately 100,000 miles. nothing in the owners manual indicates that. after paying $1000 for the service we are now faced with a $6300 bill for a new transmission. given the price of the van and routine service, this is unacceptable, as is the safety concerns for a transmission catastrophically failing just after a service and inspection produced nothing but a van in excellent condition. *tr

Transmission failed causing me to on a side road with no pull off area. i could not get the van to move forward so i started drifting backwards. had to have van towed to shop. i am oversea for the government and to get a new transmission from the honda dealer was 5000 pound and at the current exchange rate that is $8000 on a van worth $7000.00. we had all scheduled maintenance done on the van. we took it to a local shop and they replace the transmission for $3000.00. we need the van until we get back to the states then we will be taking it in on a toyota. not a happy honda owner!!!!! *tr

After complying with honda's maintenance schedule the transmission failed, even after taking it in for the recall in 2004 before it had 15k on it. i shifted from reverse to drive and the rpm's increased but the car did not move (yes the parking brake was off). i shifted it into park and after sitting for a few minutes i shifted it to drive and thankfully was on my way. while driving the car started to skip/stutter when the gears shifted. ultimately arrived at a transmission shop and was informed that the entire transmission needed to be rebuilt. *tt

When traveling down the passing lane of a 4 lane highway in heavy traffic at 60 mph the vehicle suddenly lost power and began to slow as if the brakes were on. fortunately i was able to pull over to the side of the road without anyone running in to me. upon getting to the side of the road i noticed that the engine light was on. i put the gear shift lever into park and walked around the van to see if any fluids were leaking. none were. i got back into the van to see if it would move. it finally did after moving the shifter from p to d a few times but it did not have the power and did not shift correctly. the code that turned up on my mechanics scanner showed that the transmission had slipped and would need replacing. i called honda and they said there was nothing that they could do for me eventhough there has been numerous issues with these transmissions. the only recall they acknowledge was the fuel pump for my van. the outcome of the event could have been much more serious and i feel honda is just turning a blind eye to this. if this caused a serious accident i question what they would say after a lawyer gave them a call. they should have at least attempted to negotiate a deal for a new transmission. this will be the last time honda does this to me. i have owned many gm vehicles with more mileage and never had experienced a transmission failure. after spending over $3500 on a rebuilt transmission i don't believe another honda will be in my driveway! *tr

February 29, 2011: i own a 2004 honda odyssey with 136,961 miles. i loved loved loved my honda, until now. tcs & check engine lights came on. took to my local repair shop and they got the codes p0700at & p0740tc. they advised i take to the dealer because it was a transmission issue which they don't. dealer said could find nothing wrong with transmission but battery was weak and timing belt & timing belt holder needed replacement. after paying $1200 i picked up the van and drove it home. the next morning the tcs & engine came on again. took it back to the dealer. they said local repair shop must have erased the transmission coded when they check them and that is why they didn't see them and thought there was nothing wrong with transmission even though i told them there was something wrong with it. they said i will need a new transmission. i called honda america to file a case. they took my information and then told me there was nothing they could do to assist me. i asked to speak with a supervisor who told me the same thing. i don't know what to do. we are a one income family. i am a stay at home mom who takes care of her 92 year old grandfather who has alzheimers. we bought a honda because we have always loved how dependable they are and now i don't have a car. with so many cases of transmission problems, i can't believe honda won't back up their product. i can't afford a new transmission and have no idea how i am going to get my kids and my grandpa to school, doctors appointments, etc. *tr

At less than 87,000 miles, my 2004 honda odyssey needs a new transmission. one month ago, the honda dealer performed a transmission service on the car as routine maintenance and then it started slipping within 3 weeks. i have read that countless other people have had the same issue with 1999-2004 odysseys and that the warranty was extended on 1999-2001 models. my 2004 had a recall that supposedly fixed the issue, and yet, at this low mileage, i am now faced with a $5,000 repair on a car that has been well-maintained. honda has also issued many tsbs on these transmissions and knows there is a problem. nhtsa should force them to replace all transmissions in all odysseys free of charge. *tr

The vehicle while driving home in the evening at 25 mph on the local streets, the check engine light and the tca light came on. the next morning while driving the vehicle to the local mechanic only the check engine light stayed on. mechanic concluded after all the diagnostic as code p0730 and there is a lot of wear, shredded/chipped clutch/gearbox particles in the transmission fluid, which needs new tranmission costing about $6500. researching this further online: found that numerous honda odyssey had the same issue where they had to replace the transmission. the vehicle is very well maintained and gets all the required and recommended service, and never had any major issue with this vehicle. we are over 18 years of honda owners and are very satisfied with them so far. though now very disappointed and upset with honda as they claim to be a very reliable and sturdy automobiles.

On saturday february 5, 2011. while my wife was driving from columbia,sc to augusta,ga. our minivan started acting up our tcs light came on in the vehicle, and my wife stop on the side of the road and a gentleman from dot help her get the van on the road it seemed like the vehicle slowed down to aprox. 20 miles per hour granted my wife is on i-20 westbound, and for no reason what so ever or signal the vehicle stalled. the gentleman was able to get my wife on the road again,but about 20 miles later the vehicle accelerated and my wife was not able to control it, fortunately the vehicle decelerated by itself, but the transmission went out on the vehicle. this vehicle is a 2004 with only 112k miles to me this is absurd. now i see that honda has been having problems with this transmissions since 1999. i think honda should be liable for putting such a crummy product out in the market. fortunately my wife wasn't hurt but it shook her a bit. now we are stuck with a bill for $4100, for defective transmission that honda has knowledge of. hope some action is taken against honda since they are putting people at risk on the road. *tr

Well . . . we have a 2004 honda odyssey and just hit the 103,000 mile mark and now the transmission problems have started. my husband was driving the car when the check engine light went on and then the car started to hesitate until it just wouldn't drive anymore. luckily, he broke down in front of a mechanic shop. code p0740 has come up meaning we need a new tranny. called honda 12/10 and again 2/11. we had it towed to the local honda dealer in hopes of having the vehicle repaired and getting assistance from honda for the transmission that has very publicly failed. we were offered a highly overpriced rate, ten had it towed to aamco and had it repaired for $1,000 less that the original quote with honda. the vehicle has been repaired through aamco transmission, with the final bill being $4700.29 . we're the 2nd owners on this vehicle and make car payments monthly. our loan is what's called an upside down loan, owing more in payments than the vehicle is worth. to boot, we've been without our vehicle since dec. 2010, and don't see any light at the end of the tunnel. we don't have the money to pay for the repairs that have already been, so the vehicle sits as we continue to make car payments. i'm at a loss . . . i just don't know what to do. we're very disappointed in a vehicle that we truly loved until now. hopeless in a honda. *ln

I bought this odyssey from jim coleman honda in maryland in 2006 with extended warranty. this is 2004 model. the ac worked 2006 but in 2007 it di not work when we needed. i called the honda and was told that they do not cover ac under the warranty. i took my odyssey to criswell honda in germantown in maryland and paid $100.00 for the diagnostic. it worked fine for a week and again no ac. after that we went to india in sep 2007 and rtn in dec 2007. when the summer came in 2007 we had no ac i took the van again to criswell honda and explain to them that they fixed this in 2007 they looked and said that there is a leak and will cost $55.00 to fix it. i fought back and after talking to the manager they said it will cost $50.00. i paid and after 3 days again no ac. come 2009 may i took it to my local mechanic and was told that theirs is no visible leaks at this time but they need to put the dye to chk any leak and will cost me $560.00 . i guess that it is regular problem with honda and they are well aware of this. good way to make money and spoil your name. i had a honda accord 95 model and never had issue with the ac. i am going to write to honda in japan about this. i have just called the american honda and got the standard answer from ms marlyn that there is no recall or advisory from honda on this. take your vehicle to the dealership and she opened a case no for me. lets fight together. *tr aejaz

While driving on the interstate at rush hour my front right tire went flat. this is the third tire out of four that have gone flat! the local police changed it for me. i took the tire back to where i bought it and they said the valve stem was dry rot!! another one. after expressing my concern about having 3 out of 4 tires with bad valve stems, they said that sometime this happens. because i had driven on the tire to get to safe spot, i had to buy another new tire. cost @128.31. *tr

I was running errands and could fell the car start to pull and felt they called and said that the valve stem was bad on this tire. they were able to replace the valve stem and the tire wasn't damaged. the cost to replace valve stem was $23.31. *tr

The drivers side sliding door will no longer latch. it started out a month ago springing open as it was about to shut all the way. then we had to help it, by pushing as it shut to get it to close all the way. after a few weeks, that did not work either and we had to hip check it to get it to close all the way and lock down. now even that will not work and it will not latch at all. this should be considered a safety issue with this vehicle. we will consult our mechanic. *tr

My daughter and i both opened her door at the same time (she with the handle and i with the button on the key). the door opened just a little and then stopped. i asked her to open the door and she said, "no, you open it." she began to get in the car (through the small opening in the door) and i pressed the button. the door closed on her - it did not stop. it pushed hard enough against her to cause a huge mark on her arm. it is completely black and blue and she screamed out and cried loudly from the pain. the door after closing on her reopened. it should have never closed on her. the sensor should have caught it. - we took pictures of her arm if you need them. i have also been caught in the door a couple times (twice) when i was buckling my kids in and accidentally pressed the button. the door didn't stop even though i was in the doorway. i looked online to submit a complaint to honda, but they don't have a way to do it online. i have not yet complained directly to them. let me know if i should. *tr

Bought the honda in may 2004. noticed a slight hesitation at times when engine was not warmed up. i complained about it in my new car survey form and each time it was serviced. on 8-5-05 they replaced egr valve, as it sometimes would cause this failure. on 2-5-07 it totally quit as i was starting a turn into pep boys parking lot, if anyone would have been coming out i would have run into them as i had no steering nor brakes. took it into the dealer and said i wanted it fixed before i would have an accident. i had mentioned something about the lemon law and they said i would have to contact honda of america, which i did. end result was dealer took car for three days in march 2007. they tested it but could not make it fail so nothing was done. both honda of america and the dealer gave me their final comment: if they can't see a failure there is nothing they can do for it. *ak

Latches/locks/linkages:doors:latch while my wife was retrieving my 1yr old daughter from her child restraining device my 3.5yr old son activated the automatic sliding rear/left passenger door crushing my wife causing bruses to her left shoulder. neither child were hurt in this incident.

When parking on a slight incline with the front doors wide open they close without notice. i almost had a crushed hand from unexpected failure of the detent to hold the door open. the local service department said it was caused by heavier doors due to side impact reinforcement. can't the detent spring load be increased to correct this problem? *nm

I had a long wait at a pharmacy drive up window so with the engine running, i put the shift in park and set the foot brake. on an attempt to move forward i put my foot on the brake pedal, released the emergency brake and attempted to move the shift lever from park but it was locked in the park position and would not move. i quickly looked in the owners manual and read the instructions on page 185-6 which described removal of a trap access door and inserting the ignition key to unlock the park condition. if i would have been in traffic and would not have had a pen knife i would never have been able to correct the condition. the trap door was almost indiscernible designed into the top of the dash above the steering wheel and difficult to even get the sharp blade of a pen knife in the crack to pry open. the service personnel checked my brake lights to see if they were working and they were ok. apparently there is a relationship to the park condition. i ask what a woman is supposed to do if that were to happen and they had no suggestion. why can't the controls be designed so all you have to do is remove the key from the ignition and restart the engine to unlock the locked condition. i can see this condition as a disaster on a jammed freeway. putting a remedy in the drivers manual is not the answer to this rather perplexing situation, especially for non mechanical drivers with poor perception skills and in emergency situations. *jb

The driver's seat has bad joints that let it rock from front to back. we have had the subwoofer installed under the seat by the dealership and they have checked the seat and have said this normal for the seat to do this. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated there was a metal plate that came loose in the steering wheel column. this failure interfered with the radio controls. the contact expressed concerns that this could cause a problem with the steering capabilities. the dealership was contacted and determined there was a bulletin issued for the plate that instructed dealers to tap the plate back into place. the vehicle was currently at the dealership awaiting repairs.

In 2/05, took van to dealer, explaining vehicle sometimes does not start, doesn't even make any turn over noises, but then smells of gas. this is an occasional item and then starts. dealers stated i must be turning the key too fast. also been experiencing vehicle cutting out between 35-50 mph. dealer states must be from taking foot off gas pedal. most recently, around 33k, blower motor for ac has terrible noise. have taken to dealer 2x in 3 weeks. told there are "leaves" in system. an independent mechanic states it is most likely a bearing going bad in the motor. have continued to inform dealer of starting problems & hesitation problems between 35-50 mpg. told warranty is close to expiring, but have driven & started vehicle several times & can't replicate problem. most recent trip to dealer was on 8/23/06. *jb

I was leaning into the trunk and the back hatch came flying down onto my back. the hatch hydraulics/struts gave way. i have already ordered the parts at the dealer because it wasn't shutting properly. it has taken over a week for the parts to come in. this is the second time i have had to get these parts replaced in less than 2 years for a less than two year old car. i was injured and i am seeking medical attention. *jb

The two front doors to not have enough tension when opened and the doors swing shut (even on a level surface) and have closed on my leg and my 3 year olds leg. the dealer says that my van is set to the standards and i think the standards need to be changed! *jb

Vehicle will stall sparadically within the first five minutes of driving. vehicle can either be cold or previously driven and stall will occur. once stall occurs the engine will restart without a problem. stall can occur as many as three times daily or not for several days. at a stop sign i pressed the accelerator to turn onto oncoming traffic going at approximately 60 mph and the vehicle stalled in the inetrsection. both my young children and i were nearly killed. the problem has been reported to the dealer and honda as well. vehicle has been to the dealer for service on this issue four times and dealer is unable to reproduce the problem. problem is now ongoing for the past two months. this should be a real safety concern to honda as well as all odyssey owners. *nm

2004 honda odyssey transmission problem. at 20,000 miles, the transmission has started to slip. also, it rolls backwards when it is in drive in our driveway. our driveway is not steep. it did not do that when we first got it. the dealer said that was normal. we almost slammed into a car that was parked in front of us on a hill. we were facing downward. i put the van in reverse, then i took my foot off the brake to make some room so i could get around the car parked in front of us. the van rolled forward and i had just enough time to avoid causing major damage. i had to find the owner of the car in front so he could move out of the way so i could get out of there. *jb

2004, honda odyssey- steering column busted, vechicle was unable to switch from drive to park, which leaves you in dangerous situation because you have a running vechile that you can not stop. for those of you have a similiar vechile it means the rear passenger doors do not open. this is not a good situation when you have your children in the back of a moving car with no way out. the 1st attempt at a honda service center was pleasant and the problem was thought to be corrected, however the 2nd time not so good. i was treated very poorly my situation was not handled appropriately. after 5 hours at a service center i had to bring my vechicle to another center simply i am in the process of writing a letter to honda. i am very concerned about the saftey of my family. *nm

A 20 month old toddler got her fingers stuck in sliding door of a 2004 honda odyssey. the door usually does not close if something is in the way, but did not stop for the tiny fingers. what was even more of a concern is that the doors could not be opened for about 3 minutes. no control button worked and the door could not be opened manually from the outside. after 3 minutes the door opened, but i have no idea why the button worked. we did not follow up with the physician yet, but it seems that she is ok beside some bruising on her fingers but this should be checked out. *jb

Passenger air bag is turning off frequently. there is always a strong crack when you press the brake. there is a decoloring passenger air bag place. it eats gas if you turn on the back air conditioner. the passenger console had a big vibration. the odyssey has gone to the dealer more than four times for the same reason but it's never fixed. they said those claims are normal for a model 2004. *jb

The safety danger i want to report is locking a child in a vehicle with ignition turned on and no way to get inside the vehicle. vehicle: honda odyssey minivan 2004 lx model. this model has automatic door lock once ignition is turned on. however, unlike most other vehicles where automatic door lock operates and locks doors when vehicle is in motion, on honda odyssey - there is simply a fixed time delay ~10 sec between start of ignition and locking of all doors. the problem with this is: (a) in a parking lot - i started the car by sitting on the driver's seat and with all doors closed, and immediately decided to open the door and step out to verify that i have put all the groceries back in the van - the van door shut locked - there was an adult inside the car who could open the door for me - but there was also a 18 month old baby in the car seat - and i am worried that this can happen to others. (b) on 22nd january morning, i started my car in the my garage and since it is cold got out of the vehicle to come in the house - but today i did this too quickly (within 10 sec?) and ended up locking myself out of my van with van engine running. i got my spare key to open the locked doors. again - am very concerned that not everyone has spare keys easily accessible (could be with some other member of the family). the greatest safety danger is locking a child in a vehicle with ignition turned on and no way to get inside the vehicle. *nm

My 3 year olds leg got stuck as the automatic door was opening to our honda odyssey. the door kept opening pinning his leg between the door and the floorboard. i had to manually pull on the door multiple times before the door reversed and started closing so i could get his leg out. his leg was badly bruised with deep red marks on each side. the next day i went to the dealer to see if the doors safety mechanisms were not working properly and was informed that the door had no safety mechanism to stop it from opening if something (like a leg) was stuck between it and the floorboard, that it only had safety mechanisms for as it closed. there only option was to disable the doors everytime the kids were in the car. this is a tough solution as when the doors are deactivated they are very hard to open and close. even my 7 year old cannot open them manually. also i feel as if there should be a safety mechanism for the door as it opens as well as when it closes. if i had not been right there to force the door to open, his leg would have been broken instead of just bruised. also in the future i have to constantly make sure the doors are off now when he is in the car. *jb

I am guessing that when i went to the car wash about a week ago, they lifted up the captains chairs, in the 2nd row, in my honda odyssey to clean. i didn't know that they had done this and checked my 2 year olds car seat to make sure it was secure but not the seat itself and drove away. today i was driving on the freeway and had to slam on my brakes when my daughter, car seat, and captain chair flew into the back of my drivers seat. the captains chair was not secure. my daughter was just fine with a few cuts and bruises. i spoke to all of my friends to warn them about this and not a one would have thought of that as being and issue. you cannot see easily that the seat is not securely attached and because i had not touched the seat myself i didn't have any idea that they would be any issue. i know now that i should always check that but seeing as how none of my friends even thought about that either, i thought i should make people aware. it shocks me that so many safety features have been implemented but not on something as important as this. please help me. *nm

2004 honda odyssey developed problems with the transmission.*mr the vehicle was taken tot he dealer for transmission recall work. the dealer was unable to perform the repairs because the tools were not available. prior to a routine maintenance the vehicle's transmission was working find. after the maintenance the vehicle began performing erratically. the dealer claimed that he did not damage the transmission. the dealer offered the consumer a new transmission but they wanted her to pay for it to be delivered. the consumer refused stating the all recall repair are supposed to be free of charge, per the recall notice. *nm

This happened while finishing a right turn onto a short on ramp to the freeway. while holding the steering wheel with my left hand (right hand meanwhile moving to new position)and turning the steering wheel counterclockwise to straighten my vehicle again, the little finger of my left hand got caught between the airbag/steering column and the array of buttons for the cruise control (near the base where the gap there is larger). after turning the wheel a little bit several times while trying to free my hand, i realized i was in trouble: i couldn't straighten the steering wheel out without breaking my hand, and turning the steering wheel far enough to the right to free my hand would have resulted in the vehicle leaving the road. so i gritted my teeth and yanked my hand out, leaving a long cut on the top/side of my little finger, but able to continue driving. looking at the steering wheel in the neutral position, i see that large space between the steering wheel and the airbag on the right side of the airbag (2 o clock to 4 o clock) comes to a narrower cone or pointed shape at the inferior end, so that while holding the steering wheel there with the left hand (thumb on the outside of the wheel), the hand can slide down and get 'fed' into the space between the cruise control buttons and the airbag area. i have been driving 22 years without accident or incident, most of them with honda vehicles, several of them with cruise control vehicles, and i haven't changed my style of driving,but this is the first time this has happened. *jb

Dt: 2004 honda odyssey. the second row seat dislodged from the vehicle and tipped forward with consumer's daughter in a child safety seat. this happened when the consumer had to make a sudden stop. this seat had been in this spot for months. the dealership stated it was not latched correctly and they secured it. the dealership showed consumer how to do this. she tried to latch the seat and could not get it in. she then took the vehicle back to the dealership, and the service department agreed that it would not go in. then they looked at another vehicle and found the same problem. the seat had to be dropped down very hard into place to make it latch; this was not indicated in the owner's manual. the dealership originally stated could visualize that itwas latched, but upon further inspection, there was no way to tell.*ak

1month ago i opened the passenger side automatic door on my 2004 honda odyssey and it pinned a publix bagger and shopping cart between my vehicle and another vechile. the door did not stop and continiued to ram itself open. thankfully, the bagger was not injured, but the my vehicle has several significant dents and scrapes. in dec. 2004, we had taken the van in for door problems; not shutting properly, stopping during closing for no reason etc. i'm very concerned about the door's safety features, especially regarding my 2 y/o. the dealership 12/04 & 7/25/05, states that no abnormalities were found. i'm very concerned and will seek legal advice.

7 year old child's finger was closed into the automatic door of our honda odyssey minivan. the door wuld not open again until it had fully closed on the finger. we thought the door had a failsafe device to automatically open if it encountered resistance. this did not happen. we will consult with our honda dealership to see if there is a problem with our vehicle.

As i was driving on the freeway my gas pedal no longer worked and i was forced to coast to the side of the road. honda told me it was a broken throttle cable and did pay for the repairs. i just want to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else because i could have been killed.

Dt: consumer complained about two problems. the first problem involved the sliding door located on the right side which did not close when it was opened. took vehicle to dealership six times. however, problem recurred on july 19, 2005, and the dealership told him to bring the vehicle back. consumer has repeatedly been told by the dealership that there was no problem. dealership replaced some parts, but consumer saw no improvement. he was concerned about the door malfunctioning when opened. what if it would malfunction when it was closed and it opened while driving. the second problem involved transmission. he received a recall notice that was dated spring/summer 2004. he took the vehicle for service and they said there was no problem. transmission hesitated while driving. *ak

Dt: contact states vehicle is equipped with a safety device in the door to keep it from closing to stop injury, but nothing was designed for it when it is opening to stop from causing injury.*ak *sb *nm son was getting out of van and his foot got stuck at the bottom of door. the door had to cycle before consumer could reopen it and try to get his foot out. there was not a way to stop the door to prevent his foot from getting smashed. the son's toes were only smashed in the incident but it could have smashed or even broken his foot or leg.*sb

The child seat harness crossed the child in the face, and became unlatched. consumer contacted manufacturer, who has since then replaced the vehicle after telling her that vehicle was not compatible with the seat. *ak

I have brought my honda odyssey to the dealer at least three times since purchased less than one year ago. each time i asked them to look at the air conditioning system. i told them it made a "clunk" noise at start up. it was so loud, i thought it was the transmission. the first time, they told me they told me they could not reproduce the problem. the second time, they told me it was "normal" and gave me an internal copy of "a/c 'clunlk' noise on years 1999-2001" mechanical problem sheet. hello!!! i bought a 2004 model odyssey!!. i called, complained, and got nowhere. i recieved another recall notice, and asked them again to look at the a/c "clunk" noise. i told them it was also happing when the heater was on, not just the a/c. of course, they told me they could not find anything wrong. i have researched this problem. in the 1999-2001 odyssey model they had a "clunk" noise problem acknowledged by you. i do not see it for years 2003-04. however, i do have this problem and feel i have been sold a defective product. on one account, they did acknowledge the problem, but tried to convince me it was a "defect" from 1999-2001. i find this unexceptable.*ak

Paint peeling from front and rear bumper. paint not adhered properly from factory. paint peels freely with any . this veh. has only 10k miles, less than 6 months owned. always hand washed. this is not normal wear --!*ak

Upon taking the groceries out of the vehicle the child hit a button which engaged the automatic door, causing the child to become trapped. however, it took some time before the child could be released from the door. *ak

My van continues to stall. the fuel pump and fuel pump relay was replaced in late september, but the van continues to have the same problem. it will start, run for 1-3 seconds, and shut down. it will take anywhere from one try one hour worth of tries to get it to start up again. the van has left my family stranded on several occasions. i have contacted the honda dealer, and they tell me this is normal. i don't believe a vehicle with 7000 miles normally does not start, and can take up to one hour to start. they also have told me that i am flooding the vehicle-even though i am not touching the footfeet and have always driven a fuel injected vehicle. my husband and i are to the point that we do not even want the vehicle, but our dealer does not seem to take us seriously. i read a complaint that a customer filed stating metal was sent throughout her vehicles fuel lines. how can the service department check to see if this is what has happened to my vehicle. the service department continually tells me they can do nothing unless the service engine light comes on. this has yet to happen. i am very tired of being stranded by my brand new vehicle. *ak

My 2004 honda odyssey has lurched and loss forward power/motion for just a few seconds while driving normally at speed between 40-60 mph. this has happened during the first 7500 miles. cruise control was not on during these events. i have checked recalls and other owners and found similar comments. this could cause an accident if passing or additional power is needed while driving up incline. have had fuel pump recall item corrected. please investigate! *jb

When driving around 60 mph on the highway our 2004 honda odyssey began to accelerate on its own like someone pushed the accelerator all the way to the floor and held it to the floor. this constant acceleration almost caused an accident as we were forced to weave around in traffic until we could pull over to the side of the road where the acceleration continued and we fought the van with the brakes on until we could shut the engine off. when restarting the engine in park, the engine continued to rev at redline levels. turned the engine off and on again a couple of times as it continued to be revving at red line levels. eventually after slamming on the accelerator several times, the engine idled at normal levels. this was a very frightening experience in a light traffic and could have been disastrous in moderate or heavy traffic - especially since we have 4 kids. *jb

The consumer was not informed of recall 04v-176 until after he was almost in an accident. *nm the vehicle continued to accelerated while the brake pedal was pressed. *nm

I own a 2004 honda odessey. i was outside the vehicle and opening the passenger door, which is automatic. my 2 year-old leaned against the outside of the van against the rear panel at the same time that the automatic rear door was opening. she became lodged between the door and the van. the reverse mechanism on the door did not operate (or doesn't exist) and i had to manually pull the door off her and dislodge her from between the door and van. i reported the incident to honda and they indicated that they have had 10 other reports thus far. my daughter did not suffer a serious injury. however, i feel the potential exists for serious injury to a child in this manner. *ak

The throttle cable failed. this would cause the vehicle not to accelerate. the dealership will be notified. the cause was not determined. please provide more information.

A recall was issued for the transmission second gear set. consumer stated that the dealer will not have the repair kit until november 28,2004. *ak

Daily my 2004 odyssey will stall. the engine will start, run for one second, then shut off. this will occur for one minute to one hour. it first occured when the van had three hundred miles on its odometer. it has been into the dealership four times, but they tell me it cannot be fixed unless it acts up at the dealership. they also told me that i am pressing on the footfeet and flooding the van. lastly, they told me to hold the key two seconds after the van starts-even though this will wear out the starter. no deaths or injuries have occured due to this, just a ruined vacation and many times of being stranded with a brand new vehicle that will not start. it has never been examined by anyone at a dealership-the service adviser would always send me away without having a technician look at it. *ak

Automatic sliding door closed on consumer's 31/2 year old child's right hand. child sustained cuts and bruises. dealer was notified. *ak

While applying pressure on the brake pedal to reduce the speed because the traffic was slowing down vehicle in front of me stopped abruptly. i applied more and more pressure on the brakes, and nothing happened. vehicle was not stopping any faster. i did not pump the brakes since odyssey has abs and they did not kick in though i applied a lot of pressure on the brakes. *ak i collided with the vehicle in front of me and airbags did not deploy. prior to this incident i was able to stop the car faster.

Recall 004v176000, concerning automatic transmission. no parts available until september 9,2004. ontario honda, 585-398-2562. dealership did not resolve the problem. *ak

2004 honda odyssey manufacturing defect.*mr the vehicle was on and the consumer had to children inside it. the consumer put the vehicle in park and exited the vehicle to retrieved something. when she returned and attempted to get into her car it began to roll backwards down the driveway. the vehicle crossed the road before it came to an abrupt stop on the curd. the dealer was contacted and explained that the gears may have somehow become stuck between park and reverse and then popped into reverse. the consumer contacted the manufacturer requesting a new vehicle and an investigation. *nm

While consumer was entering inside of the vehicle placing the child on the second row seat the seat snapped backwards and hit the child. this caused the child to hit the floor of the vehicle. no injuries reported. consumer took vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic claimed that the vehicle was operating as designed. mechanic informed consumer that the seat spring lever was too forceful and needed to be replaced. *ak

While driving driver's side window blew in and shattered into the vehicle. the window was closed. dealer stated this was not covered.*ak

When shifting up from a lower gear (from 1st to 2nd) most notably at low speeds, around 20 to 25 mph, the engine feels like it is revving higher than normal before shifting into the next gear. when it does shift, it shifts hard and makes a clanking noise. it feels as though the transmission is sticking, preventing it from changing gears in a normal fashion. i have not noticed it occurring at any specific time, it seems to happen at random intervals when driving at lower speeds. i have taken the van in for inspection and the technician could not recreate this problem. took van on july 08, contacted honda, the problem still has yet to be resolved. this is one of six problems i had to take the van in for. after having the van for two weeks, only two non-mechanical problems were partially resolved and one non-mechanical problem was resolved completely.*ak

When driving at a consistent speed between 30 and 50 mph, engine feels like it is losing power and the tachometer needle fluctuates, this will occur for a few seconds and then return to normal. it seems to happen regardless if the engine is cool or hot. took to honda dealer and technician only took the van out for one test drive without experiencing the problem. i told service advisor that the problem occurs intermittently. took van on july 08, contacted honda, still no resolution.*ak

Intermittently driver's side sliding door opened and closed on its own. a two year old child was unsafe while consumer was driving the vehicle. *ak

The dealership is not able to give the consumer an appointment too have the auto transmission recall 04v176000 performed within a reasonable time frame. the first available date is dec 15 2004. *la *sc *jb

Problems with door on 2004 honda odyssey.*mr the door was ajar 6 inches and would not open nor close all the way. the close button was pressed but nothing happened. the door handle was pulled and the door started to close and crushed the tip of the consumer's finger fracturing it. the vehicle was inspected but no problems were found. *nm

The struts or hatch pistons failed on our 2004 honda odyssey and the hatch weighing well over 100 pounds came down on my head full force. this defect should be addressed. serious injury will occur with head and neck injury and if a smaller child in the path maybe worse. honda is charging us to fix the problem. i strongly suggest this be a subject for a recall. they should not fail after two years. *jb

Sliding door on the passenger's side opens by its by itself when the vehicle is standing still. dealer and manufacturer were notified.*ak the passenger side sliding door would not close. after the 4th try the consumer got the door to close. passenger sliding door opened. the consumer opened the back door and the sliding door closed by itself. *tc

Their is vibration in the driver side rear view mirror. at 60 mph, the mirror, front seats vibrates. first time i took the vehicle to honda dealership, they said the wheel alingnment was out, second time they said the mirror is bad and replaced it. third time they said they see the vibrations but cannot find anything wrong. they said they test drove 3 other vehicles with similar milage (13.5 k) and found that they all have the same problem. i called honda and they said that they cannot do anything about this.*ak

2004 honda odyssey lurched backwards while in idle then accelerated out of the garage.*mr the consumer contacted the dealership who told the consumer their best guess was that the gear was stuck between park and reverse and eventually popped into reverse. *jb

While idling in the driveway vehicle accelerated backwards. as a result, the vehicle collided into the garage with children aboard. no injuries reported. *ak the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem. *sc

The high beam has a single halogen light for both settings. when switching from low to high beam the light fails to project far ahead . this reduces extended visibility as needed for the high beam. dealership stated that they were unable to make observations due to business hours in order to correct the problem. *ak with a single halogen bulb, when switching from low beam to high beam, the low beam element goes out and no longer works resulting in a dark sensation ahead of the vehicle because the high beam light is further out and is too dispersed. high beams are unusable in this condition. (per telephone conversation w/ consumer on 07/02/04 *mjj)

After parking the vehicle consumer was unable to restart vehicle. then, after several hours the vehicle started as if nothing ever happened. dealer inspected the vehicle twice but, could not find the cause of the problem.*ak

My daughter opened the car door and , not realizing this, i pushed the keyless entry/door open button. these actions made the door stop with a small opening. my daughter then tried to maunally open the door at the same time i pushed the button again. this resulted in her hand being crushed/caught and shut in the van door. i ran and maunally opened the door to see her hand crushed. this all happend in a matter of seconds. we iced it and upon her pediatricians request,took her to the emergency room for x-rays. it turned out that her hand was not broken but briuised badly. this van is supposed to have a safety feature to not crush people/children in the door! *ak

On four separate occasions, first in january 2004, and most recently on may 24, 2004, my 2004 honda odyssey lx lurched violently, causing driver and passengers to be thrown forward. driver was able to maintain control of the car on all occasions. on each occasion, the car was traveling approx. 40 mph. despite two visits to two different honda dealers, nothing is being done to fix this problem. american honda corp. also refuses help. driver of the vehicle fears that a serious accident could result if the car is traveling on the highway when this lurching occurs. *ak

The vehicle's automatic sliding door sensor failed. as a result a rear passenger's hand was shut in the door. please provide any additional information. *nm

While driving 65 mph consumer applied the brakes and brake pedal went to the floor. consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and pulled over. then, consumer noticed that smoke was coming from the passenger's side wheel. the driver had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that passenger side brake pad needed to be replaced due to worn out parts. *ak

Van shakes horribly after reaching 60 mph and is really bad from around 70 mph. taken it in at least 3 times for the same thing and it is still not fixed. they changed out tires and balanced but to no avail.

My family and i were on a vacation in our 2004 odyssey. our vacation was almost 2000 miles, round trip. when we were nearing our destination, our vehicle suddenly began to lose power when we would try to pass. it was getting so bad that we decided to pull off at a honda dealership along the interstate. the serviceman jumped in the vehicle and it did not act out of the ordinary. he told us that likely a computer chip was off and needed resetting, so if it did it again, to be sure to pull off the interstate and shut off the vehicle. we proceeded another 60 miles or so without incident. upon our return trip a week later, the van did the same thing. it was getting so bad that we could only go 45 miles per hour in the passing lane on the interstate. (keep in mind that our van had less than 3,000 miles on it when we left for our trip.) we pulled off a few times to try to "reset" the vehicle, to no avail. finally, we knew we would not make it home. at that point, our engine light and tcs lights came on and stayed on. we pulled off at another service center, at which point our van totally died. we had to have a tow, a taxi, and get a hotel since it was sunday. it turned out that the fuel pump failed and sent metal throughout the system. they had to flush the tank, hoses, etc., replace the fuel pump, and replace a couple of fuel injectors. the vehicle was out of service for eleven days. we are now fearful that there is engine damage that won't show up until after the warranty has expired. so far, honda has paid for the repairs and our rental car home (we think), and they said they would pay for the tow and the hotel but will not pay for the cab, the extra meals out, all of our phone calls to make arrangements, etc. they basically said that it is not their fault that we were so far from home when the vehicle failed. we totally distrust our van and don't like honda of america's attitude.

Dear madam or sir, while driving, with two children seated inside on the back seats, my newly purchased honda odyssey suddenly flashed all the signals on the control panel/dash board, became almost non-maneuverable and abruptly stopped. this happened just after two months of purchase. my wife, who was driving the car, and the two children were in panic and scared not to speak of the trauma and inconvenience they underwent. it put my family in a very dangerous situation once and my family and i feel very bad and insecure about it. fortunately this did not happen on a freeway or on any busy road otherwise it might have been disastrous for us. we do not want to be in same situation again and we have lost trust in this particular van's machinery due to the fact that it failed so early in its life cycle and more so because this failure was not of trivial nature. had it been minor defects like malfunctioning of lights, indicators, ac not working, audio not working etc. we would have ignored. we were told that the computer system in the vehicle failed. as per dealership and american honda the van has been repaired but this happened so early in the life cycle of the supposedly new van that my family and i are afraid and hesitant of taking it on even local roads. as this poses a serious safety risk to the lives of my family and me and may be also others, i thought it to bring to your attention. my family and i appreciate your attention into this matter that is so important to us. *ak

While driving at any speed and when the consumer depressed the brakes seat belt locked. the belt will relax after thirty seconds or so. this problem occurred three hundred times, at least ten times a day. consumer claimed that when the belt locked it caused pain. *ak

Seat belt tension excessive, continues to lock up, causing shoulder discomfort, potential shoulder injury. *ak

I had notice the accelarator pedal giving a jerky movement and car starting after hesititing for a few seconds since day 1 whenever i acclerate. this is continuing to happen and occurs more frequently when there is rain or snow. *ak

Drive side seat belt constantly locking up and will not release imediately, causing discomfort and shoulder injury. *ak

Honda odyssey 2004 automated sliding door failure. upon unlocking car, automated door opened 2 inches and hung long enough for my child to put a hand in and the door closed back on the hand. failure 1 - partially open and reclose. failure 2 - was when the door did not auto-sense an object in the door jam before closing.

Gas pedal stuck on a very cold day (~10 f). my wife complained that the pedal could not be pushed down at all; she finally got it to move after about 10 minutes of trying. because we can back down our driveway without pushing on the gas, she didn't notice until the car was already in the street.*ak

As my husband accelerated, the steering lost power. he could give the engine gas but could not manage the car. somehow he was able to turn the car around and get the car back to our mechanic. he checked it out and determined that indeed the transmission had failed. *tr

Took our honda odyssey van in for service with the local honda dealer. was told that we had broken motor mounts. dealer service center said that this is a common problem for this year/make/model and was a real risk to our safety if we didn't get it fixed. if it is such a risk, why is there not a recall? from looking at the number of complaints on this site, there are so many is it to numerous to count them all. *tr
