2014-03-07	ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE	The Gates Corporation (Gates) is recalling certain aftermarket Tru-Flow Water Pumps, part number TFW 41127, sold at certain NAPA Auto Parts and/or installed by automotive service technicians after November 1, 2013 (and manufactured August 2013 through October 2013) that have a black-colored pulley/sprocket or do not have ‘US9377’ stamped on the water pump housing. These service replacement parts were sold for use in model year 1999-2005 Audi A4, 2000-2006 Audi TT, 1998-2005 Volkswagen Beetle, 1999-2006 Golf, 1999-2008 and 2011-2013 Volkswagen Jetta, and 2000-2005 Volkswagen Passat. In the affected water pumps, the pulley or sprocket that turns the timing belt may develop microfractures causing the timing belt to fail. Remedy: Gates will notify owners, and dealers will replace the water pump, free of charge. The recall began during May 2014. Owners may contact The Gates Corporation at 1-303-744-1911.
2009-04-07	EXTERIOR LIGHTING	SABERSPORT IS RECALLING 16,270 COMBINATION CORNER AND BUMPER LAMP ASSEMBLIES OF VARIOUS PART NUMBERS SOLD FOR USE AS AFTERMARKET EQUIPMENT FOR VARIOUS PASSENGER VEHICLES. THESE HEADLAMPS FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, “LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT.” THESE LAMPS DO NOT CONTAIN THE REQUIRED AMBER SIDE REFLECTORS. Remedy: SABERSPORT WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND OFFER A FULL REFUND FOR THE NONCOMPLIANT COMBINATION LAMPS. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 11, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT SABERSPORT AT 1-909-598-7589.

THESE HEADLAMPS ARE MISSING THE AMBER SIDE REFLEX REFLECTOR WHICH FAILS TO CONFORM WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, “LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT.” Remedy: K2 MOTOR WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND OFFER A FULL REFUND. 2007-02-20	EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH	ON CERTAIN PASSENGER, WAGON, AND CONVERTIBLE VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH OR WITHOUT CRUISE CONTROL, A BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH MAY MALFUNCTION IF IT WAS INSTALLED INCORRECTLY. Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL THE NEWLY DESIGNED BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 27, 2007, AND WILL BE CONDUCTED IN SEVERAL STAGGERED MAILINGS THROUGH SEPTEMBER 21, 2007. VEHICLES WITHIN THE MAKE, MODEL, AND MODEL YEAR OF THIS POPULATION MAY BE INVOLVED IN EITHER THIS RECALL OR 06V-183, BUT NOT BOTH. THE REMEDY IS THE SAME FOR EACH RECALL. I am not able to fill in the exact time frames listed above. More of a narrative can be provided. I am interested if your organization has other individuals with the same make and model of Volkswagen who have experienced similar problems and hopefully through our input , your organization can assist in having VW issue a recall for safety issues and some other corrective measure to be applied universally rather than just toward me, as an individual.
Ever since I bought the car in April 2001 I have had nothing but problems. It was more of an inconvenience than an aggravation, because pretty much everything was under warranty. I thought by the time it was over, the major kinks would be fixed and it would be smooth sailing. This has not been the case and I did not know about the Lemon law then, so it is too late for that of new sales.
From the time I bought the car, the Check Engine Light was going on and off, I brought it to the dealership, Dana Automotive in Northampton, MA and they fixed it and then it would come on again. Eventually it stopped or it cleared itself out after driving so many miles. Since the initial warranty expired, I have been back and forth to another dealer for recall and non recall items. I have tried to save money so there have been times I have gone to a reputable non-dealer facility, because I could not afford the exorbitant dealership rates for something that costs half as much at other facilities. I have used another dealer, Fathers & Sons in West Springfield, MA for recall and some non recall work and another automotive shop. This has become incredibly expensive.
I had a Subaru before this and had nothing like this happen. My car has slightly under 68,000 miles and has been violently shaking for a year or so when I put the key in the ignition. Now after a fuel service flush and carbon removal, new fuel filter, etc. plus spark plugs the car starts up but I still have to accelerate slightly and now it can stall in the middle of a street when at a stop light or on the highway. There used to be knocking movement when I drive for a period of less than a year. Now, I still have low power in the car when driving. I am seriously worried that I will stall on the highway or the car will ignite, because it feels like it is going to erupt when I put the key in the ignition. This is incredibly dangerous and it is almost as if something is happening electrically, with the fuel line as in a blockage, or the ignition switch is switching gears while driving. I am afraid that this vehicle and all others in this group are at a potential risk to my safety and well being as well as others. The ignition switch and electrical stalling problem is a problem with some other models of VW recalls such as 2011 Jetta, Routan 2010 models. The faulty fuel line and other fuel parts are recalled for certain Audis and certain 2006-2010 vw. I have a serious problem with my vehicle and am afraid of a crash or a fire while I am driving with the 2001 1.8L turbo new Beetle turbo engine. This should not happen I only drive it about a half hour or 45 minutes each way at the most and do not take frequent long trips. This car and other 2001 VW beetles 1.8 t hopefully will be looked into for recalls concerning the hard start, stalling in traffic or on highway problem which might be related to fuel line components, electrical components , ignition switch ,etc.

I am putting in this complaint in regards to the misadventure I have had since I purchased my vehicle in 9/03. The emissions light was on @ that time, and the dealership sent it to the VW dealer who said it was no problem. They cleared the sporadic code and that was $41.07 that the dealership paid. At the same time my car was supposed to have a headlight & foglight replaced which was not one. I had to take the car in again! This was on September 9th,2003 and this cost Seelye $139.42. Each time they took the car they kept it a week and I only got to see \"her\" on the weekends! Now try to understand how frustrating this maybe when you purchase a car, it\’s not working right, it\’s gone over 90% of the time, my first payment was made even before I got to keep it full-time! Now on September 15th,2003 it goes back to the VW dealer for (here we go again) the emissions light is back on, this time they decided there was a problem and they replaced the secondary air pump, and this cost Seelye $491.16 but yet here I am without a car for another week and then thinking the car was fixed, ho-ho-ho! Then I had the car until September 22nd,same problem same light this time they replaced the purge valve and mass air flow sensor that cost Seelye $245.48. By this time I made my first payment, and I got to keep the car for the winter, but the light comes on again for 2 weeks, I call the VW dealership leaving specific instructions on when to contact me from before 10:30AM or after 4PM, you kept getting an answering machine, never did get a \"live\" person , got one response around 2PM while I was @ work, I called back and then no reply. The car does go in until April 4,2004 for the same reason, they replaced the combi valve and clear the codes and I was told @ that time for my warranty to be good that you needed a 40,000 mile checkup. This total bill was $820.06 paid by me.And then 3 weeks later the light comes on again, they replace a hose for secondary air flow system/combi hose, at no cost to me. A week later I hear a noise from the front of the car, I lift the hood and another hose is off, can you imagine driving down the rod and my car sounds like a jet engine? Imagine how scared I was not only with this hose but what other damage is being done? Did not bother to call the dealership just took the car in had a major discussion with the manager and they replaced the hose @ no cost to me. My concern is why is this happening, this car was purchased because I thought it was a \"sturdy\" car and I would not have to be concerned with major repairs, but now I feel I was wrong! I doubt if I would ever purchase another VW for these reason\’s.
