What is a recall?
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) oversees safety recalls of motor vehicles as well as tires, child safety seats, and other items of motor vehicle equipment. When one of these products experiences a safety-related defect or is not compliant with a Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS), NHTSA is charged with ensuring public safety.
Although almost all recalls are undertaken voluntarily by manufacturers, they may be strongly encouraged by NHTSA as part of an ongoing safety defect investigation, or advocated for by individuals or consumer groups who can petition NHTSA to open an investigation into a particular defect. INDIANAPOLIS – An Indianapolis woman says her car caught fire just minutes after she got her 9-month-old baby out.
Michelle Shetler contacted the Call 6 Investigators after she discovered her 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer had been recalled, along with more than 300,000 other Trailblazers across the country.
Shetler was headed to her grandmother’s house in Brownsburg when it happened Dec. 7, 2013.

General Motors Recalls 778,000 Small Cars for Ignition Switch Problem
General Motors is recalling about 619,000 small cars in the United States because either a heavy key ring or a “jarring event” such as running off the road could cause the ignition to shut off and possibly prevent the air bags from deploying in a crash, the automaker said in a report posted today on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website. The vehicles affected by the recall are the 2007 Pontiac G5 and the 2005-7 Chevrolet Cobalt.
